AVP has been a rather storied series in terms of games ranging from terrible quality to great fun. The latest installment is somewhat in between. You have the ability to play through a unique campaign as any of the 3 species (Coloinial Marine, Alien, Predator). Each species has its own advantages in their respective campaigns. As an Alien, you can walk on any surface, jump across great distances, and implae enemies with your tail. One other major advanatge that you have while playing as an Alien is that your health recharges. However, your health is lower than other species, and you have no armor, so you can still die rather quickly. If you like creeping in the shadows, and scaring the crap out of a bunch of humans, Alien is the choice. As the Marine, you have a nice arsenal of powerful weapons to blow the crap out of whatever creature may come near you. Obviously you might think, "the Aliens will tear the Marines apart..." This is somewhat true, except that your Marine has the ability to block any attack with his meaty biceps, and subsequently smack the Alien in the face! Realistic? Not really, but its better than dying every 10 seconds... If you like to play the game like the movies and run through the dark with a crappy flashlight, Marine is the way to go. Now for Predator... As a Predator...well, you kinda just kill everything. Whether it is stabbing the hell out of people with your Uber-claws, or disenegrating people with your plasma cannon, Predator just completely kicks ass. So if you like, well, kicking ass...then go Predator!!! All that being said, the game overall is only decent at best. Each of the campaigns only takes about 1 hour to go through on regular difficulty. When playing as the Marine, the FPS combat is rather generic. The game can still be very entertaining though.
Recommendation: Rent it first (you'll probably beat it quickly.) Maybe buy used if price is good. NOT WORTH $60!!!

'Not bad for a Human'. AvP is a honest attempt with great ideas, and some noticeable problems.

A game worth the hype. With great character models and environments . A short campaign and some controles hold it back.

A game that tried to do too much then delivered too little.
