Our first look at Animal Crossing's 3D debut.
Who would have guessed that collecting furniture and cutting down peach trees could be fun? But Nintendo did create a franchise that's built upon the very real tenets that accruing lots of stuff is reward enough for a job well done, and of course a new version has to grace its latest system. The 3DS version of Animal Crossing looks a lot better than the previous three renditions, though, and not just because of the extra dimension. We came away itching to dig holes in the ground one more time after seeing the first footage of the latest Animal Crossing.
There isn't much gameplay in the short, noninteractive trailer, but one thing is certain: This is the best-looking Animal Crossing yet, surpassing even the Wii version. The camera is zoomed in a lot closer to the main character, and the extra detail on your protagonist and the environment is immediately apparent. The trees look particularly impressive. The bark and leaves look much more vibrant, and the 3D effect when running through a forest is a treat. The inside of a home is just as stunning. You can now rotate the camera to get a look at everything you've collected. The items in the demo home included a model train set and a drinking water bird, and it was fun just to stare at them because they were so detailed.
There's no word on a release date or extra activities for this latest Animal Crossing, but the visuals are certainly impressive. Keep your eyes on GameSpot for more information on this collect-a-thon as soon as we find out more.
I loved the DS version and as long as they make some improvements on this one it will be a day one purchase for me.
ya i hope they change the formula up. I want more usable items. Item should also be able to go outside ie the grill lol. I want the city to be a place you can actually meet people also.
The original was great, and I'm still playing it after 2 years, however a lot needs to be changed. I want more things to do, and it would be nice to have the city in this game. I also don't want to spend 700,000 bells for the 4th house upgrade, and so on. Lastly, I don't want a million weeds in my town jsut because I didn't play the game for a few days. I want this game, but a lot needs to be done.
I think this game would really be great if Nook didn't charge your LIFE for house upgrades, and someone from a different town didn't have to buy something from your store to upgrade it to the final level... :(
@Brettsky128 I like all the weed. Infact, they should add more weed, and give it a price and a whole market at Redds shop, like the Stalk Market at Nooks.
man this is my wifes favorite game of all time. she is still playing the ds game all these years later. but her biggest complaint is why don't they put in christmas and easter? it would be so much better if they did, imagine going outside on christmas eve and seing santas sleigh going by. that's why we both wish they would put this game on the computer, then we could mod that stuff in.
This is just making me explode with joy... after a bit of a disappointing wii release, i really hope this should shpae up the series once more and be the true, definitive animal crossing, surpassing even the ds version...
One of the new features of this game is you get the chance to play as the mayor of your town! http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=17921
I hadn't traded a game in in a LONG time. I traded the wii version. It was exactly the same as the others, except it felt more boring. I think it would be really cool if they did some new stuff with the series.
i sooo hope that this game is better than the wii version :) it just didnt have enough new features :/ it would be amazing if loads of new stuff was in it and better online play! and less of the friend codes etc >:(
@dzimm yeah I can also agree with that. Maybe you could hire a maid or something... Oh my... that, is a great idea, they should do that!
@huntervaneg agreed, nintendo 3ds will be the best portable ever made, and really or even there, at the top of all consoles ever made.
It is my idea or Nintendo will release the 3DS with a set of super titles... Wonderful, tell me more!
It's Animal Crossing in 3D!!!!! 3D Animal Crossing AMAZING IDEA!!!!!!!! Just like Up In The Air on Blu-Ray!
Once you start, you have to play everyday otherwise your town gets screwed up.Its not that hard because this game is so addicting.
I've seen the pictures, and my reactions were quite the same as gamespot. The graphics are really good. I can imagine how this will work with the new online features on the 3DS. Is there a trailer too we can watch?
i think the 3ds might be more powerful than the wii, im surprisd they didnt announce a wii upgrade, maybe at tgs?
I wish Animal Crossing had an "I'm on vacation" feature so you could walk away from the game for a week without your town going to hell in your absence. It's the requirement to play every damn day that burned me out on Animal Crossing for the DS.
I really enjoyed Animal Crossing: Wild World and I'm already excited about buying this one. The graphics look so wonderful, they look more like that of an animated Pixar movie than a game. Nintendo has outdone themselves this time. I only hope that the Nintendo 3DS will be release in the West this year, at lest by Christmas and not Spring of 2011.
Hopefully, the feature set of this installment will be a little more robust. The original and Wild World were good, but the Wii version seemed like they could have done so much more with it. It was a shame to see that they didn't pour as much into it as they could have, and I really would have liked to see a deeper online mode. Maybe this version will be different.
So ... no word on any actual new features for the game? Looks like they'll just release another carbon copy of the Wii version but with 3D.
I just hope that desertification thing isn't included. That was god-awful. I watched my beautiful town turn to dust. Literally.
Sounds great. I like the animal crossing series and have every game but the Wii version did feel a bit lazy.
Yeah I'm pretty excited about this actually, I think it will be one of the first games I pick up for the system, along with maybe Paper Mario if it's a new one...Idk so many great games on the way! But seriously, I'm looking forward to a new Animal Crossing game, I just am.
Nintendo, this is your chance to do Animal Crossing RIGHT. In GCN, it was great. In DS, the same game with online. In Wii, the same game with voice chat. Now we want more than ONE new thing per game.
Haha wow! Better than the Wii? That shows right there that the Wii addition of AC was PURE LAZINESS.
