Ubisoft wows Sony press conference attendees with a gameplay demo of Assassin's Creed 2 on the PS3.
Assassin's Creed fans might have been disappointed by the lack of gameplay footage at Ubisoft's press conference yesterday, but the demo given at Sony's press conference earlier today was well worth the wait. The demo opened up with a scene that looked remarkably similar to that featured in yesterday's trailer: Nobles are dancing in the city square, fireworks are illuminating the sky, and series protagonist Desmond is stalking the streets in the shoes (and trademark white hood) of another of his deadly ancestors.
You won't be playing as an assassin, though, at least not at the outset. Rather, you'll be playing as a nobleman on a quest for vengeance who, as you progress through the game, will learn to be even more lethal than the first game's Altair. Assisting you on your quest will be Leonardo Da Vinci, a personal friend who serves as your personal inventor and affords you access to all manner of gadgets--his famous flying machine, for example.
The target in the demo is located inside a castle and, conveniently, can only be reached from the sky. After strapping yourself into the flying machine--which resembles a hang glider with flapping wings--you'll be able to float over the city, using the thermals from fires dotted around the environment to gain both speed and altitude. And, as was shown in the demo at one point, you'll even be able to swoop down and kill enemies.
After we watched Desmond's ancestor land on the roof, we were treated to a quick display of just a handful of the new moves that you'll have at your disposal. The most impressive was undoubtedly the ability to simultaneously take down two enemies by thrusting your wrist-mounted blades into their necks. Even more significant, though, will be the ability to disarm enemies and use their weapons against them. In the demo, we only saw a spear being used in this way, but the finished game will purportedly feature more than 30 different weapons, as well as six that can be unlocked only by connecting the PS3 version of Assassins Creed 2 with the PSP game, Assassin's Creed Bloodlines.
The stage demo ended, predictably, with the assassination of the target. Less predictable, though, was the escape from the castle, which involved the use of a smoke bomb (which disoriented multiple enemies) and then a dive into a nearby expanse of water. Gaining the ability to swim has long been the mark of a good sequel, so consider us even more excited for Assassin's Creed 2 right now than we were yesterday. Expect more information on the game, which is scheduled for release later this year, as our coverage of E3 2009 continues.
i'm afraid they might have exagerated on some stuff, but it looks awesome anyway!! gonna buy it for sure, but i hope the voice acting is now better
Well my AC1 had a problem (with jerusalem files) i fixed them from the internet and it was perfect! AC2 will ROCK too (I know it),the character is EZIO and he lives in italy!?zio is Altair's descendant! Really impressive.Well how is he descendant.has he got children? in the real world and they continue his story (from jerusalem to ITALY?) Complicated! :P
i really think that this game will be better than the first which isnt really hard to do but still it looks good
@ Rolaeo: I heard a guy mention Machiavelli in movie clip. He would be one of the guys who gives you a missions Florance. It would be a bit strange to leave out such an important Florance character if you are visiting the city in the that time. I don't recall in which move it was but I remember some Ubisoft guy talking about the game and some pretty girl interviewing him about it. Really hate myself for not bookmarking it now.
@JB2B You sure about Machiavelli? If so that truly would be awsome, Niccolo Machiavelli is damn genius and brutally honest when it comes to the politics of that time.
I agree with vasot, why can't Ps3 owners and 360 owners just get along. you know some people even have both. but i hope the ending in assassins creed 2 isn't suckish
Loved the first one, and the second one looks even better! I can't wait for this game, this series has so much potential!
I cant wait for this game!! looks like they got rid of the repetitivness of the first one and improved everything!!
Groovyspood do not listen to the sony loyal sheep in here. I play all my games at 1080p with my X360 Elite just fine. The Sony loyal sheep just try to annoy the x360 owners with ignorant remarks...As about the game i hope the missions are varied and not being as repetitive as it was with the first one. I will probably buy the PC version because i prefer the mouse from the gamepad and because the PC version will look even better from the consoles.
WOW!!!!! The looks of this game is jaw-dropping! And, if you played Assassin's Creed, you know the game-play is fluid and fascinating.
ya I'm with you --Altair--but hell since i have both a ps3 and psp i wouldn't mind getting both and yes u can see the diff from 360 to ps3
Enteker25, Wtf is wrong with your eyes??? Of course that it is a visible difference with the resolutions... But I'm agree with the thing about "money grabbers" Anyway, I'm pretty sure that this game will be rated with 10 at least... Aren't you people agree with me??? Can't wait to play it!!!
who cares wether its 1080 or 720 I play both and there is NO visible difference on your home t.v. and besides did anyone read the part about not being able to get 6 of the weapons unless you connect with a PSP game. wtf is up with that? money grabbers
Just make sure they don't forget to provide subtitles here this time, not everyone is a native English user or having good hearing. And I hope they will follow Capcom with its Devil May Cry 4 in the PC version, though the game is originally from PS3, mainstream PCs can play it very smooth. My old GeForce 7600GT + 1.80 Ghz Intel E2160 + 2 Gb DDR2 can play it in 60 fps with the right settings. All PC games should be like that.
I just sold the first one to a friend so I watched him playing while I was coming with ideas what could make the next one better. The first one was a nice game, but became a bit boring after a while. It left me with the feeling that this could have been so much better. The whole assassin's creed idea (storyline, gameplay) seemed so genius. Not long after I sprayed my ideas (not original ideas I suppose) we checked the movie of part 2. And damn... most of the ideas I had where implemented and they had some more ideas. I was not even considering buying part two after part one, but after this video I'm 111% sure I will get this one. The Renaissance in Italy is a great setting and putting Leonardo da Vinci in it is just awesome. Also a (you may call him) hero of mine is in it I understood: Machiavelli who wrote the controversial book about power called 'The Prince' will serve as your mission master. I got a feeling this one is going to be one of the surprises of this year. Oh and my Xbox output signal is according to my Sony tv 1080p
I don't get this stuff about the 360 not being able to do 1080p. I play on mine at 1080p just fine :S
Are you complimenting the PS3 or 360??? Me lost for words, vecsim89 coz this is what you wrote: stop dogging PS3 for some things that might not even be the consoles fault. XBOX360 has had way more problems than PS3 for good games. My cousin had a 360 and it stopped working coz he TAPPED it gently on the side. I'm not sayin PS3 is better, I'm telling you to drop it before you start eating your own words.

super happy I got a PS3 cause you can use 180p with PS3 and only 720p with x box(plus they break every hour D :)
A great game, i will be getting this for my xbox360. hopefully ps3 owners can enjoy it without having some sort of game issues since lately few games are having problems e.g. prototype, fallout 3..........glad i got an xbox360, no gaming issues with it.
I didn't like the flying machine when i first heard bout it but now...meh should be good, love the dual hidden blade, looks epic
I recently played Assassin's Creed 1 the other day and remembered how good that game was! The graphics do look dated now even in HD but am greatly looking forward to the new level of variety and standard in this next installment!
REMEMBER! You all forgot, you're going to be playing as Mr. Myles as well you know in bits of the game kind of like AC1, so remember it's going to be a GREAT Game but some bits will bore you, but it'll pay off, trust me, it's gotta be a must buy on PS3! For as I know, not sure about 360, plus I hate keyboard & mouse games that's why im not too into pc games : 1
