- Jan 24, 2013 7:07 pm GMTi just read comments from the gamespot article, and people are upset and offended that such a "kind and noble" leader could be portrayed as this even if it is a "what if" scenario. I know he is a great hero, but why are people taking this so seriously? i really like the idea behind this alternate history idea. He could have been evil the whole time or corrupted by a piece of eden. i don't see the reason for the hate behind the concept of it considering this is a video game, not a history book. as long as it is well written, i will be happy. i will be happier if they release all 3 parts of this dlc in the future as part of a bundle. (going to have to wait it out for a long time by the looks of things)

~I will floss my teeth with your soul~ - Jan 24, 2013 7:26 pm GMTAs a non-American, I think it may be because Americans just aren't used to seeing one of their greatest American heroes represented as a power-hungry tyrant (because he definitely wasn't), even if it's in an entirely fictional story. It's off-putting for them; Americans are extremely nationalistic. It doesn't help that this DLC -- which denigrates their first president -- will be released a day after their President's Day, or that the game already does a pretty good job of making Washington unlikable either.

"I love criticism just so long as it's unqualified praise." Noel Coward - Jan 24, 2013 7:50 pm GMTI am an American and I think Washington is a hero but this plot doesn't bother me a bit. First, it's a fictional game anyway, so there should not be a big deal about it. Second, its an alternate reality, they are not trying to pass it off as actual history. I say enjoy it for what it is and have fun.
- Jan 24, 2013 8:20 pm GMTI'm quite intrigued by the idea. However, I'm more curious as to how they connect it to the main AC3 plot. If it's just a "what-if" scenario, I'll be disappointed. There are so many gaps in the story's timeline that you can easily make something in between that actually fits.

I actually really like the idea, and I'm a huge Washington fan (I believe he's the greatest president we've ever had). It's extremely interesting considering he did turn down the suggestion that he become king. What bothers me (and I started a thread on this the other day) is how he's portrayed in the game. I was looking for him to be Connor's DaVinci or Medici. Washington was a gentleman farmer, by all accounts personally a very good, noble man; however, that's not to say that he didn't do such things like burn down Indian villages due to them siding with the French and later the British, so it makes sense to show how Connor gets angry at him and the darker side of Washington. He wasn't perfect, he did some bad things, but he was still a good man. What bothers me is that he has no redeeming qualities in this game. They show him as an incompetent commander, portray him as a complete d1ck, and I was very disappointed. He wasn't the greatest tactician, but he was a great politician who kept the morale of his troops up, won the major battles of the war, and concentrated more on a mobile force that could retreat easily, which is what won them the war. Washington rarely made big attacks, only when morale needed it (Trenton). He attempted to tire the British out and weaken them because he knew it was more a battle of resolve than strength considering they could never actually match up with the British. So yeah, I was more upset with the fact that they portrayed him as a mean, incompetent fool. I'm really looking forward to this DLC. - Jan 26, 2013 2:13 pm GMTScottie_theNerd posted...

I believe they made the statement that it's not canon, due to earlier complaints about having to buy DLC to keep up with the story in the previous games.

By using smoke bomb you are unable to hunt and kill like a true assassin, you must kill defenceless people instead. - Jan 26, 2013 9:51 pm GMTHopefully we get some story-related DLC in the future like the da Vinci content for Brotherhood. I think something about Achilles' past would be pretty cool.

Despite the Wall, I completely agree. He's your common bad guy thug in the DLC. Would have loved to see a more charismatic and calculating figure. Evil yes, but not so..."meh"

"No world shall be beyond my rule; No enemy shall be beyond my wrath" - The Emperor of Mankind - Jan 27, 2013 12:34 am GMTI'm an American with a love for history and I love what Ubi is doing with this DLC even if there intention was to piss a bunch of us off. Anyone who gets upset needs to loosen up and take a chill pill or 3. Who cares? It's a made up alternate history piece that's not required to play the full game that they bought at retail and quite frankly, its a very interesting "what if?" that could have very well been a possibility if things played out differently and George Washington wasn't such the unique individual that he was.
Enjoy it for what it is. If it turns out to completely suck and the plot line that they give us is total garbage then I'll be the first to say it but don't judge it simply based on the paragraph long synopsis that we have.

PSN: 96VTECGSR XBL: KrimZon281 - Jan 27, 2013 12:50 am GMTAm I the only one who doesn't think the game painted Washington so dark? It portrays him as a commander with a huge loss streak who cruelly attacks Connor's village, but did anyone listen to the Washington conversations? I remember him lamenting the suffering of his troops and confessing how all he and his men wanted was freedom. I also remember him deciding to sleep out in the cold with his troops rather than stay warm inside the local's home.

Washington is portrayed more as a n00b than anything
