Assassin's Creed III User Review
Unsatisfying side-quests and many bugs prevent this game from being a masterpiece.

- "Almost, but not quite"
Assassin's Creed franchise is a unique blend of history and fiction and Assassin's Creed III is not an exception. However in trying new things the developer never polished them, which resulted in buggy and unsatisfying quests.
But starting from the beginning:
For whose who played other AC games the setup will be familiar already, but the story will deliver quite a shock firsthand. This will give a jolt to AC fans and will spark their interest - nice move.
Story develops right from the beginning. Even before our main hero Connor was born. Nice to know.
In overall story missions are varied and nicely done. Dialogues are done perfectly and this is mainly why a gamer will want to play it. But: First thing is the sidequests. Remember what plagued the first AC game? YES. Being too repetitive. That is true here as well. Of course naval routes, naval missions are nicely done and mainly these missions will keep the player from being bored. But other than that - collections of feathers, trinkets and other stuff. It would be just like the old AC games and player would bear it but because of buggy tree climbing these missions become nothing more than a frustration. Also the new addition is hunting which is also very repetitive and boring. Traps are not working like they should and looking for animals other than hares, elks and wolves is tedious. Nice thing is an evolving homestead however. Though the developers might do something new next time (if there will be a next time) because this evolving feature is since AC II and is not fresh at all. Winter and summer changes are great but unfinished and moving in winter is a pain (not to mention that looking how Connor dives into a freezing water like nothing happened ). Also what should be mentioned is a revised control scheme. In a way holding both RT and A in order to sprint was tedious but it prevented the player from some costly mistakes. In AC III however because of the absence of this fail-safe mechanism - player will be bound to make many mistakes while climbing, jumping and chasing just because of it. In overall many new additions should be more polished but in terms of a main story - it is a good and solid game.

Why isn't Assassin's Creed 3 as fun as I remember the previous games being?

This is more of a mixed bag than the other games in the series. It has some great parts, but also has some not so great
