Nice to see a smaller model but I'm leery about the top loader and I'm wondering if Sony put a sufficient cooling system in it. My slim would get really hot even in a well ventilated area with a fan blowing on it. I also don't like the shiny on the super slim. My slim took a dump a few months ago and I've been without a system since the summer so I'm jonesing for a new PS3. I may stick with a slim.
@hhelljack I hear you - my slim just stopped reading BR and DVDs due to overheating. It was only 3 years old. Serious design fault in my book and I'd like to know whether the super-slim is as hot...
I actually use the composite AV cable to connect my ps3 to my 21" CRT tv.
I had been saving to get a 32"lcd but that plan has now gone down the drain as my ps3 YLOD and now I'll use that cash to buy a new ps3 slim.
Be curious to check out the OS on the super slim PS3, the original PS3 slim shipped with extra 7.1 sound options for audio buffs.

1 Like Looks fairly cheap especialy with the plastic slide disk cover. I myself would favor the slim over this one. I Wonder if this one is at least backward compatable with PS2 games aswell as the PS1 games because that could make a bit of difference in peoples buying decision. I am beginning to think that Sony is in some financial trouble either that or greed is getting to them just like many other companies around the world. We will have to wait and see how sales do, Maybe Sony will find themselves not selling to many and be forced to make changes to the console design. I Own the Fat and have since 2008 without the need to have a repair yet.

Slot loading drives don't exactly instill trust in me.. I gotta say I'd much rather have a top loader for any system. Top loaders are also much more reliable in my experience.
I remember the days when Sony was a respected quality manufacturer, if you bought sony products you were generally buying quality goods, i dont think this is the case anymore and this iteration of the ps3 is just another example :/
I don't get why people who already own a PS3 would buy a new one. For example, the people who had the fat and then bought the slim. It seems like sheep-brain

As a ps3 primary user I hate this thing. Price is too high. The loading of discs is terrible... what if you need to store it on a tight shelf slot? now you won't be able to load the discs. Very bad design. If I needed a new ps3 right now I'd definitely grab the original slim version. Sony has dropped the ball on this one. Kinda embarrassing. Please don't make such dumb mistakes with the PS4.
To be fair you shouldn't store your ps3 or xbox 360 on a tight shelf slot to begin with because of overheating. Heat is the number one enemy

1 Like I really hate the loading tray but to be honest, with most of the games going digital and with 500gb of storage, I'll only be opening it to install games or play a Blu-ray.movies anyways. (Which is rare for me) I guess it is kind of pointless for Sony to put in a super expensive disc drive in when it won't really be used or necessary. I think I'll still pass and get the slim but I love the look and the glossy finish
4 Like I'm happy with my motorized disc loader on my slim (more convenient). This new super slim looks too cheap, and more ugly. It almost looks like an audio car amplifier.

I like the loading tray, it seems that has not weathering at all, looks bad but its well designed and seems very durable and that's what you should look in this kind of things, not if it is pretty or good looking...
@slayerSS-3 wouldn't it be better if it were both durable and good looking... or maybe i'm just one of those people that just want everything... come-on Sony you do better... next time(or not).
@C-P-30 @slayerSS-3 you're not alone, i've seen plenty of people go to great lengths making their PC "look cool". sometimes even risking lost functionality lol
@C-P-30 maybe but we all know that you cant have everything and if i have to choose between durable or good looking durable will always win :)
