I've played through the original BG1 about 4 times now and BG2 around 6-7 times and they are both by far my favourite games of all time.

I'm going to get straight to the point and just simply ask; is this game worth getting if I already own BG1+Tutu? And more importantly, why?

    Thanks!

Probably not. Only new thing different is new content, which is sometimes poorly executed, and is really more along the lines of DLC.

    No.

    I'd say no.

You might be better off waiting until people have actually had time to explore the new content and what not.

Ultimately though, the answer is pretty easy for me. If you think the new content, not having to deal with mods for basic fixes (possibly, people are reporting bug issues, others aren't, who knows), and gambling a bit on a new company that may or may not do things in the future is worthwhile, go for it. If not, then prolly not.

If you love BG that much I'd say so. It's nice having the new characters to try out, some new missions and a new class kit. If they get enough support they'll probably release more content for this before BG2:EE comes out, so I really wish real fans would just suck it up and buy it. It's really not all that bad, and even though most of the enhancements are small, they are still nice to have. I'm looking forward to the romances and such.

    100% No.

Will there be a patch that fixes the technical issues? Are you either a big fan of the original game, or or someone who's never played it before?

If the answer to either of those two questions is "no," then that's also the answer to your question, TC.

No, this is exactly like tutu but with a bit of extra contents.

They didn't even upgrade the graphics or aesthetics all they did was put BG1 contents in BG2 engine which is what tutu does for free (if you have both the original games).

BG 1 and 2 was great, but after all these years and for $20, I expected more. Some of us just finds it hard to get into the slower gameplay like we used to, they could have made the gameplay more fast pace. It exercise alot of patience to get into this game again now that we've played all the games that came after.

In conclusion: it's a ripoff, you're essentially paying $20 for mods. Might be worth it if you got an ipad and wanna play BG on it.

They weren't ALLOWED to change the original aesthetics of the game (or the dialog or anything). And so far the game has been running better (faster, less buggy) than Tutu did for me before.

Sorry, but I can't "just suck it up". Unless you're planning on buying the game for me, I need to know that I'm purchasing something of value (by my standards, of course). Loyalty alone does not get my money; quality product does.

I haven't played it, so I'm on the fence, but from what I've seen, I might wait until the price drops. I don't see what this adds to justify me buying - sorry, re-buying - the same game that I currently have installed on my system.

This is an excellent thing for new players whom never played the game before, but for us vets...

    The new contact is nice.

For me, it does run better than Tutu did. It looks better, too.

Most importantly, it supports the continued existence of games like it - even if Beamdog doesn't ever make a Baldur's Gate III, they might make an original IP and if it's anything like the new content, it'll be fun.

Whether or not its worth it, however, is up to debate. I used to live, breath, and **** these games. Since they came out, I did countless playthroughs and partial playthrough on an annual basis. The "old school" style RPG - the IE games and first two Fallouts are my favorite games to play, to this day.

For me, it is worth it. For others? That depends.

If you've played those 2 games through a combined 10 or more times, you are clearly a huge fan. As such, if you've got $20 sitting around, I would certainly recommend it. I'm probably around the same number of playthroughs myself, and I can easily afford $20 so I spent it. I justify my purchase by -

    1) It's way more stable than when I had TuTu. TuTu would crash on me a lot, or it would create odd bugs. Those don't seem to be here.
    2) I own the original discs; now I have a digital copy which is nice.
    3) I really reall like the zoom in/out feature
    4) Some new content, which I haven't really touched much.

This is definitely baldur's gate 1. This isn't a remake by any means, it's really a tweaked re-release. But this isn't a tweaked re-release of Might and Magic 8. This is a tweaked re-release of one of the best games of all time.

Not true. They weren't allowed to modify game content except in minor instances (small tweaks to dialog and encounters, that kind of thing. They weren't ABLE to improve the visuals because the original assets for the game--the original sprite art, background art, audio recordings, etc. were all missing. This means they had to work with the low-resoltuion/horridly compressed stuff from the 1998 retail release of the game.

That set them back a LOT. And they couldn't re-make that stuff because Beamdog is a really small team with very limited resources. They simply couldn't afford to.

Ok I really apprectiate the posts guys.

But completely disregarding money, is it still the best version of the game right now? If for example, I want to play through it another time?

    Thanks.

No. This is buggier than Tutu. I suggest you pick it up after they patch the 412,531,523 bugs in the game.

I think it's more stable than Tutu, and the new companions are better than the old IMO. I would say that, now the patch is out, it's better than BG1- but whether the improvement is enough to warrant $20 is down to the individual. I myself have no regrets buying it.
  • Dec 1, 2012 6:15 am GMT
Nah. If you already have the original and the means to tutu it. Its basically a different kind of install, 3 npcs, and a some new bugs and performance issues.
  • Dec 1, 2012 4:10 pm GMT
do you like playing with 60 FPS/updates per second, aka at double speed, aka in a way the game is not a goddamn snail marathon? if the answer is yes, leave it alone for now, because it's bugged. and pretty goddamn horrible this way.
