About the Awards

GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.

Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.

Platform Awards

Best Wii Game

In 2010, the Wii console offered plenty of exciting new experiences for all audiences--from families looking to have a good time, to hard-core fans looking to conquer the latest first-party adventure from Nintendo. The console offered a well-rounded set of games this year that made good use of its Wii Remote controller, but it also had plenty of great games that used the Classic Controller.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

GameSpot's Best Games of 2010 Readers' Choice Winner

This adventure for the Wii console marks the first time a second 3-D Mario game has arrived in the same console generation. In the game, Mario rides his trusty dinosaur companion, Yoshi, to new stars and the fantastic worlds found there. This 3-D platforming adventure provides longtime video game fans with a fresh round of out-of-this-world challenges in the style introduced in the critically acclaimed original.

@IslandBros15 IGN changed their rating system to .5, which to them means "give these 10s away" Though Galaxy 2 was before hand. Gamespot at least knows that a .5 system doesn't mean give 10s away. Though with all that said, I would rather have games get 10s than have some bizzarro (idiotic) "nothing deserves a 10" nonsense.

God bless Shigeru Miyamoto and his team to make a bonafide game of 2010. :)

@nunchuk28 I know right? Maybe it might even win GOTY, but the chances are low. Then again, it was the only game than got a 10 from Gamespot this year. IGN was really generous this year, they gave three games a 10 this year. They gave them to Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare, and Pacman Championship Edition DX.

the only dissapoiting part here, is the lack of NMH2 on the nominations. Other than that, the winner was pretty obvious =P The wii had an amazing year in 2010
