About the Awards
GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.
Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.
Most Surprisingly Good Game
Each year, there are at least a handful of games that come out of left field and surprise us with a level of quality, innovation, or just plain fun that we weren't expecting. This award spotlights the most pleasant surprises of 2010.

Deadly Premonition doesn't seem like the kind of game that would be good; it has dated graphics and poor controls, but it also has an incredible, over-the-top story and more memorable moments than anyone would ever expect from such a game.
Readers' Choice Voting
Deadly Premonition is a third-person survival horror action game which puts players in the role of the intuitive FBI Agent Francis York Morgan. In the process of investigating a murder, players will examine a series of interlocking mysteries in a remote rural town and will encounter an array of complex characters pivotal to the unraveling of the storyline's mystery. Suspenseful action sequences will force players to make strategic moves, gliding by enemies in the shadows or engaging them with long-range weapons or hand-to-hand melee combat. From the unparalleled atmosphere, music and mysterious storyline to driving vehicles and exploring the entire town, Deadly Premonition will offer players a unique and haunting interactive gaming experience unlike any other.

so is this game no good then? as i was about 2 purchase it last week but didn't due 2 lack of funds till this friday. anybody out there recommend it?
I've heard a lot about Deadly Premonitions, but I don't know if I can stand looking at it to play it.
Seriously...... They must be big Twin Peaks fans. I played Deadly Premonition and I wouldn't have guessed this one. I'm, at least, somewhat placated by Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. I figured that this would be something that I rented from Gamefly only a few days and wound up buying it AND getting the DLC.
Heh Deadly premonition does deserve it. I got my copy recently for 16,99$ new and for over 20h of gameplay it sure is a really good value.
