About the Awards

GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.

Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.

Special Achievement

Best Expansion Pack

The Best Expansion Pack category recognizes the best full expansions for existing games that were released as separate products (rather than as smaller-scale downloadable content). The best expansions add to the original game's experience and give you the greatest excuse in the world to revisit an already-good game with even-better expansion content.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening

GameSpot's Best Games of 2010 Readers' Choice Winner

From the Makers of the Best RPG of 2009, Dragon Age: Origins, comes the first official expansion pack. For centuries, the Grey Wardens-the ancient order of guardians, sworn to unite and defend the lands--have been battling the darkspawn forces. Legend spoke that slaying the Archdemon would have put an end to the darkspawn threat for centuries to come, but somehow they remain. You are the Grey Warden Commander and have been entrusted with the duty of rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens and uncovering the secrets of the darkspawn and how they managed to remain. How you choose to rebuild your order, how you resolve the conflict with "The Architect", and how you determine the fate of the darkspawn will be but some of the many complex choices that await and shape your journey as you venture to the new land of Amaranthine.

@kyphe: I got bored pretty quickly too, but I played it again a few months later and got totally addicted. Happened again with Chaos Rising. You don't know what you're missing, it's good man. In fact, my only complaint about Chaos Rising's campaign is that it's too short, far shorter than DOWII's.

There is not a chance in hell of me ever playing this or any other DOW2 game until someone tells me they sorted out that absolute fail of a single player campaign system. I never even managed to finish the original dow2 single player campaign as it bored me to death with its tiresome repetition. I don't multi-play that often so if a game does not have a strong single player element its not worth my time or my money. If you have never played any DOW ignore this and go pick up the original and the expansions such as winter assault and dark crusade

Rightly deserved. Have played this EP 6 times over now, as there are five different endings. Brilliant work, and while just an Ep the new content, strategies and missions are diverse and difficult enough to warrant a purchase for any RTS/ARPG fan.
