Year in Review: Q3

Sadly, the excitement of E3 this year was followed by sobering business news that led to widespread layoffs at game development houses around the world--most shockingly at APB developer Real-Time Worlds, which shut down the game after just three months and then closed its doors shortly thereafter. Fortunately, there was at least some good news with the huge game sales of breakout successes like Halo: Reach, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, and Red Dead Redemption. There was also the shocking revelation that Duke Nukem Forever was not only alive and well, but that it was also playable at the PAX event in September.

@MasterTheHero Yea. I can't wait until the game gets re-released as a free game. I've always wanted to try it. And free is a great price. :)

Motion control isn't the next big thing and neither is 3D. They will come and then go without anyone ever asking why.

How come he says"The NEXT big thing", at the end?! I thought Wii got to motion control first... or am i wrong??????

Motion gaming won't be able to COMPLETELY overtake the gaming industry. Take RTS's for example. There still will be needs for traditional interfaces.

@D3thN1gh7 I agree, but the good news is APB is being brought back to life. Hopefully with new developers and the F2P format will make APB into the game it was supposed to be.

Gotta feel sorry for APB. Sure it wasn't a very good game but going offline after only a few months of launch is brutal.

People want motion-based gaming and you can't stop it. If you don't support it that's fine, but condemning it because you don't approve isn't going to stop them from pushing it. Millions of dollars are at stake here and Microsoft and Sony are going to be making sure they make a return on their investments. Speak with your wallet. If you don't want to support it then don't buy the hardware. Just don't come down on others for their support of it.

haha yeah consoles gaming --which seems to be the future of gaming-- doesn't seem to be going in the right direction if it means motion sensing.

No........ Please don't let the future of gaming be motion sensing.

Another excellent video of news headlines. I look forward to these more than when the news first came out. The linking between the items is also well done and the narration has the news itself more interesting than the written word. Top viewing:)
