1 Like There are so many people complaining about ME3's ending that I have to ask, am I the only one who thinks that FC3 could have had a much better ending as well? That being said, I personally think that was the only true downfall of the game, as I believe it was excellent overall with some amazing and unique sequences to boot. Borderlands 2 would get my vote for GOTY, though. :)
Gotta say, I was expecting to see other games winning the award for game of the year. something like Hitman: Absolution or AC3, both good stories given the intense plot both games have in common...
1 Like After all the hate that ME3 got when it came out I'm surprised it made it that far. Personally I found that Mass Effect has less then stellar gameplay mechanics and the only thing that kept me going was the story. And although it was a decent story to be sure, it still didn't compare to the first two. And that ending. Good god that was bad, probably the biggest letdown I've ever seen playing a game.
I think Far Cry deserved the win, with Halo not far behind.

Wow, that was as close as I ever have seen it. Personally I was ok with either winning as I enjoyed both of them.

1 Like I reckon heads will roll, some people at the top of EA will be thrown out. They lost at least 1000 votes because of the lame ending. Management at Ea just does not get that a spreadsheet does not make success, happy gamers do (and proper QA of a game).
You've gotta be kidding me, Far Cry 3 is the most boring and generic shooter I've played in a while. (at least, after the crazy opening 10 minutes, which was pretty cool) -- and how the FUCK did Halo 4 beat Hitman Absolution???????? Halo 4 is not that good at all. Man, people like such shit games as long as it has good marketing behind it. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
At least Mass Effect 3 made it to the final vote, and for all practical purposes tied FC3. ME3 is a really good mix of a shooter, RPG, and strategy. Definitely in my top 2 or 3 for 2012. IMO, ME3 or Hitman Absolution should have won. Oh well.
Are you from the 70's? you sound like me, I agree, not that FC3 was shit, but that all things, videogames, music, movies, clothes, cars, etc etc etc suck so much now compared to how it use to be.

at least you were honest enough not to vote for it without having gone through it yet. Most folks on here voted one way or the other without having played the game they were voting against.
@AceCometh @rrajc i didnt vote as i havnt played both mass effect 3 and farcry 3, ive seen every ending of mass effect 3 so i dont see the point of playing, not my sort of game

@Mldnight However Bioshock Infinity comes out next year and it looks to be incredible and a step in a different direction from the other 2.
But yeah agreed. KoA wasn't terrible, but I dunno, not nominee material. Dragon's Dogma looked really cool and I can tell I'd like it, I'll pick it up eventually.
@Mldnight Speaking of threes, Dead Space 3 is coming out next month. I have this terrible feeling that it's going to be really bad. They should not be adding that co-op stuff to Dead Space. That is going to ruin to whole feel.
@Mldnight To be fair, Far Cry 3 was almost completely unrelated to Far Cry 2 and had absolutely nothing to do with the first one.
1 Like You know what is unfair... A game like Mass Effect 3 goes up against a new game like XCOM, with Mass Effects overwhelming fanbase from previous series... XCOM had no chance despite being a revamp of a classic.I hope Bioware learns their lesson this time.
Mass Effect 3 was a great game and it if the controversy surrounding it was to be considered a plus, then it most definitely deserved the GotY title. The high amount of complaints about the ending alone show how many gamers would have preferred it as the winner of this competition. But nothing's that simple...
There were many contenders and a large part of them were great games, however each of us had our own way of categorizing...
So, take the random match-up, add the played and loved games, the hyped games and what some believed to be fillers, mix them each round with all kinds of reasons to love/hate "that game", maybe add some random internet trolls to screw up the votes just for the hell of it or some sponsor-payed voters to give some flavour to it all and you got yourself some competition.
Now, whether or not these two games deserved to end up as finalists in this year's contest, i can't say. Not because i don't have all the facts or because i listen to internet gossip, but because even though we all have our own rankings, this list is about which game stirred up the most gamers, in the best way.
If Far Cry 3 fully deserved the win or just took the last part from Mass Effect 3's 'negative' controversy to secure it, i don't know. That's up to those who voted it. But this leads me to the question: Would it have been the same for any game that could have stood in Far Cry 3's place?

2 Like @saikat039 For future reference, adding more exclamation points doesn't make your opinion more correct. Clearly Mass Effect 3 is a good game. For all practical purposes, it is a dead tie between those games in the results. "Mass Effect 3 is stupid"... yeah, because God forbid you have to think a little bit about the choices you make and what you do in a video game. Although, judging by your grammar and well-thought-out reasoning, thinking before you hit buttons doesn't seem to be much of a priority for you.
You say it didnt deserve win, but why i dont care what is ur opinion, I wanna know why u thik so?
I played through Far cry 3 in 3 days, it just didnt motivate me to go all those boring side quests and other stuffs, for a new weapons, I had them in a middle of game if I remember right.
ME3 best game in series, but terrible ending just spoilt it, if they havent fail with it we would have another winner, you can see how close it was.
But then again, would it have been this close a match with any other game in Mass Effect 3's place?

1 Like Yeah, there's some great games on this list and although I haven't played it I'm sure Far Cry 3 is one of them but this list to me is more of a statement of how gaming really has become about the big blockbuster popcorn movie like experience imo. I'm not sure that's really a great thing but as long as there's still a place for games like Journey, Fez, Little Big Planet, Minecraft, Spelunky etc then I can live with that.
@amaneuvering uncharted 3 is my Favorite game, i love the cinematics, the story, the game play, online, everything about it, if uncharted 3 was in this list it would win hands down, in my opinion, no doubt that most of the games in the list are amazing but in my opinion dishonored should have won hands down, i stopped voting when dishonored was knocked out, the only other game there that i have that i wanted to win was borderlands 2
1 Like For me my GOTY would of been a game that won GOTY (not on here though obviously) and done well during last year, The Walking Dead.

I also liked ACIII but it felt kind of stale and rushed hence why I prefer TWD instead xD
As for the actual winner on here Far Cry 3 whilst I don't mind the game and have owned it for a while now I for some reason cannot get into =S so whether I think it deserved to win I'm unsure but what I do know is that I hated ME3 and for me was the worst in the trilogy

1 Like perhaps but FC3 is not a particularly great game. its good in my mind but i'm having trouble really getting immersed in it. i prefer dishonored by a long yard but then again thats just me. i think it won because it is themost recent release and fresher in gamers minds than the other titles. i guarantee if ME 3 was released this month, it would have won. all good and what not just can't getin to FC3
@philMcCrevis @Vojtass dishonored is too linear, fair enough you can choose not to kill or even be seen but it lacks the depth and thought of far cry. the best game won....

There are games that lost in the first round that are better than FC3...I am disappoint.

And by the way I have accepted that me3 lost to far cry 3 because there is no shame in loosing to a great game. And no I do not work for ea or bioware so its not really my game.
@Mudpooch Last time I checked, this was the people's choice award. The people chose, therefore it is worthy. I realize it might be hard for you to grasp the concept that your game lost a popularity contest (honestly it's kind of sad that you can't be a good sportsman about this whole thing and says a lot about Mass Effect fans) but you're going to have to accept it.
@Mudpooch Ok, let me put it this way: if "me3 is the only game worth the top prize" then why did it lose? Think about that.
