Game of the Year

Vote for the Game of the Year

This is it. The game of the year. The absolute best of the best. This is where we unveil the one game that more than any other game this year stirred our imaginations, captured our hearts, and changed the way we think about video games. 2009 was a great year for games, even in light of the financial crisis that saw a number of respected studios shut their doors for good. It certainly was a great year for sequels: Six of our 10 nominees were sequels, proving the staying power of recognizable franchises in an unstable economy.

But sequel or not, it was easy to find a game to fall in love with this year. We delved into the psyche of a famed hero. We leaped and scurried across Venetian rooftops. And we revisited our beloved lombax, who can always be counted on to make us crack a smile. But what makes this year's list so notable is the incredible diversity these games represent. Yet even with so many different kinds of games vying for our attention, one game this year surpassed all our expectations. When we look on 2009, this will be the game we remember most.

I don't think gamespot chose demon's souls to "surprise" us and i hope that whoever is slagging the game off has played it. I haven't, but i intend to, you can't argue with so much good press and not consider it's potential, slagging it off without giving it a go is childish, arrogant and pathetic, so i hope those of you who do slag it off have at least tried it a little.

plus people saying the ratings system on gs doesn't work, saying that it's stupid how a game with a 9 beat ones with 9.5 are a tad stupid. the reviews are based on one reviewers opinion, how ever the GotY is based on numerous opinions of numerous editors etc. meaning some might rate that 9.5 game as an 8 instead.........

uncharted 2 was an amazing game, it's become one of my faves now, so good in fact that i bought the first one so i could get some more drake action.
that said this year has been great for games....demons souls which i haven't played surely will be a good game, and lot's of people who are complaining will have yet to play it so you can't bash it. besides this isn't really a major GotY awrds system so let's wait for the big shows. i'm looking forward to playing assassins creed 2 now.

ah come on, mw2 is a good game, maybe it is overrated, but you lot are seriously underrating it. are you sure youve played past the first level. and for once in a game, the multiplayer is even better tbh

I disagree, again. Just choose an obvious choice instead of trying to suprise us.

I Cant Actually Believe 810 (ATOW) voted for MW2, it shouldnt even be in the top twenty and as for beatles rock band pfffft, i think dragon age should win readers choice, but i havent played uncharted 2 or forza 3 yet.

so this is the 2nd year running a ps3 exclusive has won goty at gamespot
im not a anboy of either console, i have both, and they both have very good games, but i will admit that this has been a better year for the ps3. next year however will begin incredibly strongly for the xbox, but since god of war is coming out i think the ps3 can catch up

woah! did not see that coming!

Demon's Souls is definitely a worthy winner though, I just didn't ever think it would get picked over Uncharted 2...

not surprised had a feeling it was either demon souls or uncharted 2.
was really hoping that uncharted 2 would win it.

Uncharted 2 for me - it took everything that made the first game amazing (which was, well, everything) and improved upon it in every conceivable way. That said, if there was an award for Most Pleasant Surprise of 2009, I would give that to Batman: AA. I always knew Uncharted 2 was going to be great, but the Curse of Comic Book Videogames hung heavily over AA and it could have all gone very wrong indeed, instead of delivering one of the most captivating adventures of the year.

Can't vote for Demon's Soul's, even if I wanted to as it hasn't been released in the UK. There were so many top titles this year it is so hard to choose. I was split down the middle between Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age, but I think it has to be Uncharted 2 for me. That game just shows what a sequal should be, the developers listened to the critics of the first game and made all the changes that were necessary to lift it into the realms of perfection. The voice acting is fantastic, the story is engaging and fun, the visuals are always nothing less than impressive and the action and set pieces straight out of a Hollywood Blockbuster. Go for it Naughty Dog, can't wait to see what you have around the corner for us next !

    Voted for Batman:AA
I was really surprised by how good this game was and it definitely deserves recognition

Should really be Batman:AA as Rocksteady made an excellent game with the license which was totally unexpected with only 1 other game to their name.

So... the PS3 fanboys are going to skew another vote. Shock and horror. But at least MW2 isn't winning.

WTF? Empire Total War topped the cross-platforms charts and has stayed in the top 10 most popular PC games since march and it STILL doesn't get a nomination... and the beatles: rock band does? Pure wakness.
