In America--and pretty much in most countries that aren't Japan--the days of competing with the locals down at the video game arcade are long gone, because for the most part, arcades are long gone. For quite some time, it seemed like fighting games would suffer the same fate. However, 2009 represented something of a renaissance for one-on-one competition, with new chapters in long-established series and even a new challenger or two. Here are the finalists for the Best Fighting Game of 2009 award.

Had to go SFIV over T6 because it's more of an advancement on the previous games and the online is better. But T6 is a mere dash-cancel behind it

SF4 is good for hardcore players, but when it comes to plain old fun, it has to be Tekken 6.
