Year in Review Intro

2009 was a remarkable year for the game industry that saw numerous game studios shut down while smaller independent studios made a name for themselves with exciting debut games. It was also the year that E3 returned to fill up the massive Los Angeles Convention Center like in previous years...and the year that E3 was taken by storm by motion-sensing controls and by a couple of guys who used to be in some British rock band called "The Beatles," or something like that. Follow the biggest news developments of the year with GameSpot's Year In Review, complete with links to major news stories and a timeline of major events.

I mean, who invests money into that company? Who pays their salaries? Is there like a magic well with endless cash?

How low are PC sales going to go before the media say 'Hey, maybe Steam and others aren't selling millions of games online (especially given that Steam have never given out sales numbers!)? The media just dosn't want to talk about PC gaming's decline. I don't understand why not, if we don't talk about it, it's going to continue.

2009 a rocky for all. tightening of budgets, streamlining of business and layng off of personnel (i should know i was one of them)....and thus in light of this the budget console (Wii) storms ahead of the pack - surprise! For the Wii & DS it seems to be less about 'gaming' and more about novelty both in console and the "games" released, not everyones cup of tea but still significiant for a lot of individuals. Inspite of the climate there were still a number of good new franchise releases as well as a significant number of triple A titles across the board - Alas it would seem that the PSP is still the neglected console inspite of substantual hardware sales a deft of title releases - just what are all these people doing with the PSP???
