I've been redeeming gold keys on twitted, maybe have used 4 (one time the game didnt save my loot)

The things i've gotten from the chest have been a joke

used it once at level 25 or 35 and level 45 twice. I've got crap to show for it

Just like everything else in the game, it's just chance. My dad opened the chest at level 7 (after telling me he was going to save his preorder key for level 50 - we didn't know how abundant they'd become) and got a stupid strong pistol he used up to level 20 because nothing he found was better.

Then I got an E-Tech shotgun midway through one of my playthroughs that shot arcing static explody things that just kind of... made everything die.

It's as much of a waste of time as the rest of the game, if you ask me. At least, I hope I'm not the only one who plays this game to waste time.

Some of the things I got from the chest were actually quite useable. I particularly remember getting a particularly nice smg that lasted me for a few levels when I was struggling against bad luck with drops on TVHM.

No, can be quite useful, and copying and pasting a key hardly takes up any time at all.

I still have 2 golden keys untouched. I might save them until after the level cap is raised for uber weapons.

Huh, I hadn't even thought of that.

I have a few in reserve specifically for my Mechromancer, if only to speed up the playthrough a bit.

Well im doing the same thing saving keys for when the level cap is raised or whatever but still. After 3-4 attempts, I get lousy loot.

A guaranteed purple is not a waste of time. Yeah, the actual system is a gimmick but I have been pleasantly surprised to find a crazy good caustic smg that I used from level 20-30 and a fire smg I used almost that long. Of course I've had two or three keys that got me nothing but garbage shields and grenade mods, but who cares?

Really, it's not like you have to buy the gold keys. Copying and pasting shift keys is beyond simple, and I'm always going to sanctuary. Until I have nothing but legendaries in every slot and never plan to create another character, the keys will always be useful.

They're definitely useful, particulalrly for obtaining rare E-Tech weapons which would otherwise be obscenely rare. I started hoarding up all my keys for Level 50 hoping to get the best possible loot, but ironically by that time I was farming the Warrior and Terramorphous so much that Purple items are almost vendor trash to me now (Orange or nothing!). Still, E-Tech is rare enough to still make me occasionally think about popping a chest in hope of a Maliwan Railgun or Caster. In a practical sense though, I should have used the keys earlier, ahahha ^_^.

I don't think the whole Golden Key thing will age gracefully in a couple of years' time, should Gearbox fix the exploit that is, anyway.

It's an offline single player game.

Whatever they do, it won't be hard to crack it.

Technically it's built about being a co-op multiplayer game.

But either way, there's a Cheat Engine option to add more keys last I checked. And if you keep a spare profile.bin around with keys, you can always use them again.

Yeah it's going to suck for those that want to play legitimate and didn't get in while keys were being passed around...But you can't expect promotional bonuses indefinitely, and it's not like the chest is a HUGE bonus anyway.

I don't bother with it. I usually make it a general rule to avoid any video game tie in that tries to push me towards twitter/Facebook.

FWIW: I believe they're trying to make it so that the game pushes notifications about new Shift codes in the menu itself...A lot of the Twitter stuff was just doing public testing to see if their systems were in working order.

Ya, that whole 'I can hack infinite orange at every level' thing is totally not going to age well either.

removal of orange weapons from the chest ruined it, its a useless box now

It never had oranges though, I'm pretty sure of that. The original reveal of the chest's contents specifically stated you'd get a purple item scaled to your level.
