The "rules" of the game are its program. If the program allows you to do something without modifying the program, then that action is not really breaking its rules.

What I want to know is did Neo cheat when he saved mankind?

Semi Off-topic: I consider glitching in Castlevania: SOTN to be disrespectful to the game itself.

I really don't think anyone ever said it wasn't...

Also, did you know that saying "FACT!" at the end of any sentence automatically makes it true?... FACT!

of course its cheating but lets be honest, 70% (or thereabouts) of players are kiddies and kiddies have ZERO patience for anything these days, they want it all NOW and without ANY effort whatsoever.

If they want to cheat, let them. they are only cheating themselves out of playing a great game. their loss.

I always find it amusing when someone automatically assumes that anyone who enjoys something they don't must be younger than them.

It's a really immature worldview, is why it's funny. In case you didn't get it.

I find the idea of any one willing to spend hours of day farming "epic loot" calling anyone else a "kiddie" pretty laughable, myself.

What many of you are doing is confusing cheating and what you believe to be ethically or morally wrong. If people were modding and altering the game then I'd agree with you, but just because you don't think it is in good gaming spirit doesn't make it cheating. If gearbox wanted to put some preventative steps in they could have, but they didn't.

Try not to use the "gearbox could have stopped it" argument. For one it's not super good, for another they might well not have not because they didn't want to, but because the cure could worse than the problem.

Most of the preventative steps I can think of would revolve around either disabling drops, item checks later (probably based on a unique code, if it's duplicated they get deleted), or auto-save abuse. All of those have serious problems associated with them.

i agree with this no one is Modding the game so in noway is it really cheating someone framed for the weapon and gave it someone else and left the game i see nothing really wrong with that

Why is it a bad argument? plus that wasn't my only point in that post, but they could have. They could have just prevented dropping orange items, you could only sell or trade them, and then put an autosave feature on the trade system, or any number of other options. Point is it isn't cheating just because you don't agree with it.

I don't get why people feel the need to dupe. I mean, I don't dupe, but I know people who do and it just boggles my mind. I was PROUD of breaking $100,000 and then my buddy crushed me with "oh that's nothing, we're all sitting on over 2 mill each". I'd never made it past level 15 in BL1, partly because my roommate was ALWAYS playing my copy, and I'm too nice to demand he shut off his game mid-mission so I could play, but mostly because the friends I had who played BL1 were dupers who had infinite money, shields that didn't deplete, and guns that did max damage at any range on any enemy. It was BORING because they killed everything and had nothing to worry about except falling off the map.

I honestly thought BL2 would be different, but everyone I know are all sitting on $2.5mil or more with all the same broken assed legendary guns/shields/etc that they pass around to each other like digital herpes while I'm straggling behind with my refusal to give in to the easy mode.

I mean, sure, them cheating doesn't make my single player experience worse(aside from the demoralization of knowing that everything I work for could be accomplished in a boring afternoon by gun-chucking dupers), but it does definitely hurt online play with friends when people you know don't want to play "fair".

Why are people so willing to rob themselves of the experience they paid to see? I didn't pay $60 to spend afternoons cloning equipment and playing with 3 other homogenized characters in the exact same gear, I spent $60 to play with friends where awesome loot was awesome because it was rare and actually meant something, where trading was a real exchange of goods and carried more weight than "oh don't worry, I have 28 more where that came from". And it really is hard to maintain "I don't dupe" when all your friends are all decked out in amazing gear in every slot and you're pretty much a wasted slot in the group because luck doesn't smile on you as brightly, and when you finally manage to drag people out into the field, if anything good does happen to drop, it's not "oh, hey, who can use this best", it's "Alright, steve gets it and he'll clone it for everyone else".

Duping = cheating, and hurts the game whether you think it does or not. If this was an entirely single player experience, that'd be one thing(like skyrim or fallout), but it's not.

Again, although I am sympathetic to your story and don't dupe myself, there's still a difference between you believing it's ethically wrong and in bad gaming spirit, and cheating.

    Ain't no "and"s, "if"s, or "but"s about it.

Duping is straight up cheating and that is a fact.

If we're being technical, then "ain't" is not a word.
ain't is in the dictionary ya know.

I don't see anything in your definition of cheating about me making a copy of digital/fake gun for a buddy of mine that i happened to get and he had spent 4 days farming for. Therefore as far as I am concerned...your arguement is invalid
  • Oct 2, 2012 5:13 am GMT
Imo duping ruins the whole concept of the game (unless of course, it is done only offline, then it is not affecting anyone else), but i dont have either the energy or the tears to cry about it all over the damn place.

A statement of the kind is either true or false... If the statement is true, well then, we may have ourselves a fact on our hands.

Also, I didn't realize that the location of "FACT" within a post determined the validity of a statement. FACT?

    Fact?

    FACT?

Barring this question, so like, which one of those is the determinate?
