I bought this game about three days ago, and IMO it's the most fun I've had playing a beat-em-up since Ninja Turtles.
I was frustrated with enemies ganging up on me and being unable to counter, until I figured out that Burst usually works better as a defensive check than an offensive buff. I like the mages best, namely Zozo and her sister Alchemia. And of course I also played with Solange for most of the main game.
I've beaten all the bonus missions but two, which I haven't figured out how to unlock yet. The online multiplayer is pretty barren so far but I did manage to fine a few people who helped me through most of the 2p co-op missions. I also played some ranked matches and had some trouble with a Juggernaut user, I think he was Smitty or something...he likes to spam ground pound a lot and is annoying to beat...plus his disconnect ratio is rather high too. (I only got disconnected once, purely by accident I swear) I finally beat him with Zozo, and was able to rank up to Guardian rating, but was knocked back down to Knight by a skilled Solange user...I had a couple close calls but couldn't win after five tries.
Anyway, despite some frustrating moments I really like what I've experienced so far.

Welcome! i was the Solange you fought late at night. You're not bad, just need to get used to fight the different characters. Solange is one of the best, IMO, and of course my favorite. Other top tier characters are Tsukikage, Zozo, Marco Neko, Sister Hel, Master T and Juggernaut.

Burst is indeed a great devensive counter, but also an awesome offensive ability. Flare and Super Armor are great for keeping pressure, while Regeneration keeps you healthy

Play through the Campaign with every character. You'll unlock everything eventually. Be sure to watch the 'Thousand Years' chapter with every character (twice, one for each ending) to unlock everything.

This is a niche game so it's to be expected. Just don't give up. Someone will appear eventueally.

Oh, him.... Yeah, I think it's possible to devise a chart on how to beat him. If you have low MP, jump into his AoE and block the ground pounds. Else, approach him through the air in an adjacent lane, Burst stun him and close in to deal damage/Lock-On. He'll disconnect eventually, but that doesn't take your prize away.

online ranked is a mess; 'probably better to stay away from it
online co-op is pretty fun, and is a nice online/multiplayer outlet for the 3ds
how fast you can find people really depends on the time/day, but at best, it's really easy to get someone
