E3 2012: Want to watch the Microsoft E3 conference, but not got the patience? See all the best bits in just three minutes with this handy mash-up.
This was amazingly poor! Anyone get the feeling the next gen Xbox is going to focus on kinect so heavily that it's essentially going to be an expensive wii? I fear the days of quality gaming may be nearing the end :(
Xbox Music....really? OMG!! I would never have thought of that name!!! And that's why I love M$......NOT!!
remember when they announced kinect for playing games without a controller? now they want you to play using kienct, a controller, a cellphone and a tablet all at the same time. WTF Microsoft!
haha microsoft didnt have anything, wow that was by far the worst of the three, for the third year in a row.
@bimastrike871 actually the best is sony than microsoft and nintendo was by far!!!!!!!! the worst
Actually, ALL of the conferences kinda sucked. Nintendo was by far the worst, period. The Wii U is nothing more than a Wii in HD. Nintendo showed off Wii U games that launched on the 360/PS3 months ago. The funny thing is they didn't look any better and had hardly anything new added to them. Nintendo has went for the casual crowd 100%. They showed it by introducing the Wii, and further cemented that position by the Wii U. They don't care about any sort of media services or even simple things like dvd playback. They have no sort of online service at all that any adult wouldn't feel like a pedophile using. The Wii U is a joke of technology and even the casuals may not find that it differentiates itself enough from the Wii to justify the purchase.
Sony had the best presentation as far as games go. And yes, games are the primary reason for gamers, but what do you do in the weeks and months when there are no decent games to play? I personally use the tons of different media features in the 360. Sony showed nothing good on the services front, which I would argue, are just as important to alot of people as games are. I own both the 360 and PS3, but I haven't had a reason to turn my PS3 on since Uncharted 3. So I'm excited they announced some awesome looking games. God of War was totally stale, so hopefully the differences in the new one make it feel new again. But I would really like to see Sony start to innovate in the "services" department and the arcade games department. If I haven't had anything good to play since Uncharted 3, services and media functionality would've helped fill the void, not to mention having some awesome arcade games would be just as good as a new retail game. Get on that Sony!
Microsoft had the best "services" and innovation press conference. Smart Glass looks really cool and seems like it could have endless uses. The best part about it is that they aren't limiting it to only Windows phones, but both Android and iOS users can enjoy it as well. The new Splinter Cell, one of my favorite franchises, looks sick. Can't wait for that. Clearly Microsoft is winding down on the current gen of consoles. They didn't really show much in the games department that we didn't know was already in the works, except for Splinter Cell. Microsoft also really excels in the arcade games area. Many times I've been more satisfied with an arcade game, from Xbox Live Arcade, than a full retail game experience. Their "Summer of Arcade" is coming soon and looks like it'll provide a handful of good games to play. It seems like many of the Sony fanboys don't give services and media the credit they deserve. Lately I've been using HBO Go more than regular television. HBO Go has any/all HBO series that were ever made, from the very first episode to the series finale. You can watch Oz, The Sopranos, The Wire, ect.... from start to finish. So watching the episodes of Game of Thrones that I missed and catching up on True Blood before the new season starts are just as important to many people as having good games to play. HBO Go is pretty much available on mobile devices and the 360 is one of the few devices that puts it on your tv screen. Microsoft already has a ton of apps and services, so hearing that they're expanding them even more is great. The weakness in Microsofts' camp is exclusives and first-party games. I understand that they prefer to pay 3rd parties to make exclusives for them, but dam Microsoft... you need to start making some of your own games again, besides Halo. Sony's first party offerings are almost as good as Nintendo's is now, and Sony has a ton of internal studios.
So that's my take on what went down and what needs to improve. Like I said... Nintendo was by far the most disappointing. Sony and Microsoft, imo, were equal, but focused on different parts of their consoles. People that prefer app, services and media will think MS offered more. While people that look for games as their primary means of entertainment would think Sony had the better showing. I love both games and services/media equally and I'm glad the two conferences were so different from each other.
@Vodoo and I almost forgot to mention, ps3 has a crackle app that shows free shows and movies
@Vodoo I think you should turn on your ps3andcheck to see those things u think are missing. Only reason I don't buy the subscriptions is that the company's like nfl network want u to pay so much.
@Vodoo Bro the Wii U has Netflix, Hulu and YouTube. What eles do you need? Espn and NHL like the XBOX? Don't you already have those channels on your regular TV? I agree with the XBOX/PS3 games that were out months ago part in your comment but come on, Wii U has pretty decent media capabilities.
@The_evil_Nemesi err... gaming devices needs to focus on gaming. a gaming sustem should sell because of its gaming capabilities, not streaming video.
if you want to watch media get a TV, youl feel much beter watching a show on a nice big screen instead of this small screen.
After watching this week's Checkpoint over at Penny Arcade, I was reminded of something: E3 is not meant for gamers. Once you remember that, you realize it's not a disappointment since it's not meant to dazzle you, the gamer.
Microsoft E3 was a disappointment!! Apart from Halo and Gears of War, they've announced nothing interesting (gaming oriented), Every other games announced are multi-platform! Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil 6, South Park, Call of Duty,..
@gunshin82 considering south park score the worst in metacritic. its more like a cheap cash in.
@y3ivan Oh, I agree with that, fully. I have no interest in the game, it's just that I wanted to point out that pretty much all of the games they announce during the conference are multi-platform.
Sony was pretty much the opposite with Beyond, Last of Us, God of War, Wonderbook, Sly and PS All-Star. Even if they're not all that interesting, they are still only for the PS3. I'm not counting Assassin's Creed III: Liberation since there's no equivalent to the Vita on Microsoft's side... for now. Only Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry 3 were multi-platform.
Then there's Nintendo but I always considered them as something apart ever since they've decided to go with the WII... And I haven't watch the full conference yet :-s
@gunshin82 i do say MS E3 began to go downwards ever since kinect. Not only MS heavy rely on non-gaming function but they rely on kinect and COD just for promotion.
x360 has a few 3rd party exclusives for the core x360 gamers that are not shown in the conference instead all those crap kinect titles. If MS wants to show the kinect games, pick only the BEST.
I really like Microsoft's direction, and I'll always be a part of their ecosystem, but big props to Gamespot for portraying their presentation for what it was: embarrassing. I laughed for a good 30 seconds while watching the mash-up :D
can you please just throw the kinect away. will go down as one of worste add ones ever, right there with the power glove
@slonekb05 and best selling
microsoft sure knows how to market their crap
@PayneKiller Agreed, MS knows how to market and promote their crap-mediocre products to high heavens and sell them like hot cakes. Sony is on the other hand of the spectrum, great exclusives and products but I swear they have the worst marketing department for a multi-billion dollars conglomerate.
"Keyboards don't belong in the living room."
The hundreds of thousands of people connecting their PCs and laptops to their TVs would beg to differ.
I would expect most developers will be readying for next-gen so this year will be somewhat of a downer.
i rather play my pc over my XBOX or p3. I have real control open and real games nothing watered down!
