I want horse combat system with armor upgrades and customizations. We already have the targeting system in place, if you want to build on a already great game lets upgrade it, not create the "same thing" just new areas and armor?! Im not saying the whole game needs to be accessible by horse, in some cases you will need to spot the horse out side the cave, or befor you enter on the cliff ledge. This would be a true challenge for production, but if they did it, would set the bar in multiplayer combat. or you could just make a similar sequel to turn a quick buck like everyone else.

Lol Nintendo... Don't make me cry laughing... LOL

I wouldn't like the game to be more straightforward but I wouldn't mind if they've added more detail in the beginning cutscene of the game, that would be enough for us to understand the world we're being thrown in.  Everything else should be acquired from reading, or told by another soul you meet on the road.

I really liked Dark Souls' story.  If you listened to what people said, and read item descriptions, you could figure out the history of Lordran, and I thought the best part was the lack of strait-forwardness.

Just because it's "more" straightfoward/understandable doesn't mean it will be entirely straightfowad/understandable. Dark Souls could drop some ambiguity and still be a pretty bizarre place. I'm hoping here obviously, but I have faith in From Software.

While this news does not neccessarily make it bad...

those are just the things you like to hear about a new Dark Souls game, a game in which ambiguity was largely the charm.

I haven't even played the other games (since I rage too easily), and feel this is very very stupid.

If they do drastically change it, I hope the sales are horrible, just to show them they fucked up!

thequickshooter

they only need to ship a guidebook inside the box and that's it

like CDPR did with the witcher 2

a guide book for free

that will be the day...

Damn, damn, damn.

As soon as a series gets some spotlight, a good series, they try to f*** it up with being more friendly.

I loved the feeling in Dark souls, that the World didn't revolve around you, but you were basically 'thrown' in events, without the feeling you were the all mighty hero.

We'll just have to wait. SIGH

If it is Dark Souls they should just keep it more or less the same.

Two words I do not like to hear regarding dark souls.  Straightforward, and understandable.

"Dark Souls 2 will be more straightfoward and understandable" in other words, Dark Souls 2 will be a noob friendly RPG complete with regenerating health, health packs on the ground, checkpoints every 5 seconds and Easy/Medium/Hard difficulty settings. All because the new director on board wants to cash in, and destroy the series in the process. NOT HAPPY

@Foxhound1982 Welcome to the world of gaming circa 1999 dude. The whole industry has gone to fuck since the money men got involved. I blame the PS1 for taking gaming to the great unwashed.

I hope they don't decide to only make this game for the PS4 I am not ready to get one anytime in the near future so I really hope it comes out for PS3 as well.

If they decide to "scale down" the difficult then it would be best if they put in a veterans mode for persons who have played before and are anticipating the same level of gameplay. That way both audiences i.e. the seasoned RPG'er and the casual gamer can enjoy DS2.

Do you guys think we will see the missing daughters of the witch in this game ?

rodman1

Iam inclined to beleive DS2 will hit next gen systems, i think this will add the fresh new look to the seq it deserves, I agree with Darksouljah89, the game is rather easy once you get a grasp on the game. In my opion if u didnt like or found it to hard, you screwed yourself out of one of the best games ever made. It blows skyrim and the like out of the water. if u have not played it, your missing out. I platinumed both on PS3 and put over 300 hrs into the pc version. Playing at a smooth frame rate at 1080p, blew me away on the pc.

If there are any major game changes that bring disappointment for all the true fans we have the generation of impatient numb-skulls who expect they can just run into the middle of any situation and hack-n-slash their way out to blame.  Really disgusts me how many people complained about the 'difficulty,' that is what makes this game brilliant!  Take that away and you take away the challenge which is the point of it all!  Besides I do not even think Demon's Souls or Dark Souls was even that difficult, it was challenging and you had to learn the enemies movement and get the timing down, once this was achieved you could dominate as long as you didn't let your guard down.  Truly disgusting the amount of people who trash this game because their too impatient and/or lack the simple intelligence needed to understand it, but yeah... Dark Souls II woohoo!

morf76

'more understandable' ? What's not to understand about DS? Just get used to dying, that's all. Like someone said, became a friend with death and you'll love it.

I must admit, it took me 1 and a half of NG+ to figure out some weapon upgrades but hey, my character was born a warrior, not a blacksmith, right?

And if someone wants an easy play, should just invite two friendly phantoms and problem solved, they will clear the whole area in no time.

P.S. I'm playing Artorias DLC on NG+ at the moment, swearing like a sailor but totally loving every single second (and the way I die) of it :]

thequickshooter
thequickshooter like.author.displayName 1 Like

@morf76 there is no sense of direction in dark souls

you don't always know where to go, and you can only

 learn that by suicide runs

which is bullshit, cause the first time i was going to sen's fortress i didn't know where to go, and there was so many traps in there which is bullshit

cause the game is basicly like this: be paranoid, level up as much as you can

check for guides or youtube vids to get the best items

which is bullshit, cause dark souls was and still is a "guide game"

unless you want to die over and over again you have to look at the guides

whiteyg916
whiteyg916

@thequickshooter @morf76 I always considered the lack of direction something to encourage exploration and joy in discovering and overcoming obstacles by yourself.  I never once wanted to look at a guide during my entire playthrough (although I did to find out how to make a couple weapons), regardless of how difficult it was because of the satisfaction you get in completing/mastering a particular area.  This feeling that fuels my love for videogames!   so I am a little concerned with this new direction

don't like the idea of dark souls being "more accessible." i kind like the feeling that it takes somewhat of an elite intellect and reflexes to beat the game and solve its mysteries. if everyone can do it, that takes away a huge chunk from the experience. i'm not even saying i'm that group of "elite", but if you aren't then, i think its better that people have to go online and look up stuff from gamers who have gone before them and give credit to those who solved it first. i didn't think the game was very hard to learn in the first place, so i get really frustrated everytime this Tomohiro Shibuya makes a comment. He's clearly targetting the people who didn't like the game. Fire this guy please.

SevenStyx

Tomohiro Shibuya. please fire this guy. Not only does he make inconsiderate stupid remarks about our beloved game, his only experience is Resident Evil Outbreak. That's bad!! Lets get a petition going. We can't let a guy with no credibility handle dark souls 2. Why is Hidetaka Miyazaki stepping down? We need to find someone who's designed some really good games. or make him feel the pressure of how good and great this game is and how many people will be cranky if he screws this up...he seems so clueless about RPG and fantasy lore in his interview. Why is he "learning" everything from Miyazaki? this game needs like the top experienced designers who know a lot about this stuff. Please come back and be the director Hidetaka Miyazaki!!

What i do hope is that there will be no glitchs such as the unlimited xp bugs in dark souls.

I like playing against people who thought long and hard about their build, cherish it and stand by it. Not just went dragon head and went from lvl 30 to 250..

Either then that, all i can say is that i trust from soft to make a KICK ASS game,as ever. I just hope it gets here ASAP.

Hopefully we will get to see a lot more add-ons, DLC and such with the next installation of this series.  Demon's/Dark Souls are EPIC games.  It is easy to log in 100+ hours on either one of  these titles just as a hardcore RPG gamer would on let's say, The Elder Scrolls series.  I'm not sure why the developers don't take that aspect this franchise more seriously.  I think it was a missed opportunity not to keep expanding and adding on to a world like Lordran.  By now they could have had 2 or 3 expansions and possibly a wider audience.  It would frighten me if they announced a Dark Souls MMO because I'm sure I would never leave the house after buying that.

Why is always that good things come to an end so fast.  Demon Souls couldn't have a sequel because of sony rights. Dark Souls was a good new start. Not as hard as DS, but had the same essence.  NOW  this great game will be diluted for the masses. I hope they change their mind and give us what we (THE FAN BASE , who believed at first in Demon Souls and Dark Souls) want. Another great SOULS game.

This series was Awesome! from the start.... Now we have a new director that wants to change it.. and have it be more straightforward and understandable..... That to me means that they are going to make the game less difficult and less fun. :'( fill it with fancy cut scenes and make it a copy paste game with a story that has dragons...... Here we go again.... I really hope I am wrong and that they will respect Hidetaka Miyazaki and bring the same work of art to this game.

The thing is that people who are looking forward to Dark Souls II are expecting the same difficulty, if not even harder. If you dissapoint your target audience, then you got nothing.

I wish full length movies were produced with this type of CGI (and preferably without blue aliens). I personally don't see an issue with difficulty levels considering a gamer who loved Dark Souls (or any game) enough to beat it would play again anyway and want more challenge. But I also see the attraction for the cult following to keep it the same. I didn't complete DS1 but that was because of the nurf patch 1.05, so I can only hope Namco do not nurf armour and weapons during game play again. Fantasy needs items worth chasing after. It destroyed my progress because I couldn't take down some bosses when I installed it and I was too far in to be bothered starting again. Otherwise the game was definately an intense experience!

good they include pc from the start , saves me the money of having to buy it twice this time, more understandable sounds worrying since it sounds like the best game ever might be downgraded to the level of world of warcraft players which would totally ruin both the game and the concept BUT it's all about the benjamins i suppose, not about the fanbase

@Crest0 Unfortunately, I think difficulty modes might be the only way to encourage newcomers and veterans?

Perhaps the only way to not include difficulty modes would be to better explain the upgrade systems in game? I finished Dark Souls so it doesn't really matter too much to me what they do, only that they make this game! LOL!

@orthodox1976 An individual would always choose a lower difficulty level if he/she struggles to advance through the game. Since it was non existant in the original Dark Souls, it meant you could either leave it or accept it as a challenge.

I guess I was just one of those who got spurred by the challenge. Even the pvp system was fair only because all of us played the game at the same difficulty level.

Encouraging newcomers..well you probably are right about it but I am sure most the fans would agree that DS is best as it is.

@Benny_Blakk  @orthodox1976  @Crest0 I agree with Benny. I platted both games. was curious that I could plat DarkS first because of the Infaous PBS in DemonS. Demon Souls is lot harder than DarkS.  And I already was complaining about DarkSouls. Now FS is going to kill probably the best series Ive ever played.

 @orthodox1976  @Crest0

Dark Souls is not the "original" that everyone should be mentioning in regards to difficulty. Demons' Souls was punishing, very weird, and gave you a sense of abandonment  (not to mention a splash of fear) and all of these things worked together well. It was a tad bit on the "quirky" side, but a game I grew to love. Dark Souls is actually a lot less difficult than the original! Dark Souls has nothing like trudging through a poisonous swamp while being chased yb Giant  enemies who are immune and can actually run in that lethal gunk! AND IT HAD NO BONFIRES!!!

However, Dark Souls still had it's fair share of tension and challenge.

I totally disagree with the idea of making it more "straight forward" (linear???), and "more understandable" better simply mean the option to dig deeper into numerous NPC's background for clarification of something they said.

orthodox1976
orthodox1976

@Crest0 I'm a fan too... I don't think they should change it at all, but From Software is going to want more people to purchase this game. If it has another "fear Dark Souls" stigma attached to it, it might not sell so well. Remember that they dropped the price because word got out that the game was impossible to play.

I loved Dark Souls and I would also rather they kept it with no difficulty selection and in its current state of being a strong, mysterious challenge.

Teaser trailer looks AWESOME +++.  Would be most interested to see some actual gameplay footage.

Looking forward to further reviews, as not really a fan of the On-line co-op/MMORPG style games.  Much prefer solo adventuring in RPG games.

Certainly keen to keep an eye on this though.

@boruta01 This is From Software we're talking about. The closest thing we got to "dumbed down" for mainstream audience was Armored Core 4, then the series came back even better with AC:V.

I am not sure I am happy about the new direction, although I sure am happy to hear about a new Dark Souls.

I am not really far into Dark Souls but I find the atmosphere really great as is. The less is "told" (as in "straightforward")  the more is left to imagination, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
