Hmm, surprised you didn't post a link to one of your youtube vids.
A video of a speedrun? I haven't played much pve in a long while and I was never that great.
must be able to master the game in my opinion. If all you do is PVP... why not try till you do get great? ;D
I platinumed and then beat the game at sl1 and got bored of pve. I haven't gotten bored of turtling and counterbackstabs yet though...the opponents provide the variety. :3
If you beat it at SL1.. how can you say you're not great? I don't think too many people out there have done that. Realistically what.. maybe a few hundred, if that? I dunno.
I did that on DeS, not in DkS. Is totally harder in DeS, you lack decent ele weapons, pyro flame, and weapon selection, and also, I've tried to farm less than other SL1 run players.
The lev 1 run is done in a way that everyone can do it if you're experienced, you don't need to be any kind of super pro, speed runs are way, way harder.
EDITED, cause was written like sh*t, and maybe still... - May 1, 2012 11:47 am GMTIts true, my lv1 run was very easy compared to beating it ASAP, since you have a lot more pressure on you when you try to do it as fast as possible, and you make mistakes you otherwise very likely wouldnt. (like falling down the blighttown waterwheel or geting toxiced.... lol)

Whenever another Dark Souls game is made, I have a feeling that From Software might try to make things more difficult by eliminating shortcuts like the one they used in the Duke's Archives. I bet that must be super hard to think about as a developer though.
Nah...I like to see people rewared for creative thinking, or incredibly stupid mistakes sometimes...lol

- May 1, 2012 12:54 pm GMTDamn I'm heartbroken. I've been working on a speedrun myself using a lot of the same ideas and tricks this guy did, we must be on the same wavelength. I tried it using GL sword or BK sword/halberd, used the RT ring and grass crest shield, etc.. The thought of using a bow to kill ingward crossed my mind, but not with the DS bow. That was pretty genius.
Ugh.. I'm not sure if it's worth completing even if I somehow barely beat his time since some of it will seem like a copy.

Do it man, I (and im sure others too) always enjoy watching your videos, probably one of the best PvE-ers Ive ever seen. (other than myself of course...
)
Gravelord sword takes too long to get though, adds a good 3-5 minutes. Getting lucky with either black knight (parish or darkroot) to drop their weapon is a much better option depending on the route you take (so through burg or through darkroot) to get to the gargoyles.

Young master, i cannot aid one who opposes the master. - May 1, 2012 2:08 pm GMTGlad you guys have been enjoying this. One thing I've seen some commenting on is that he would run to the BK in Darkroot and if he didn't get the Halberd to drop, he would redo the run. Since it doesn't take long to get to the BK, restarting is not a big deal.
So part of the reason he chose BK Halberd is that it is available so early. Whereas some other speedruns like the 35min kiln-glitch one settled on crystal halberd much later from the mimic chest in Anor Londo, which was then used on S&O and Gwyn later on. - May 1, 2012 2:49 pm GMTVery cool. The only quicker one i've seen uses the Kiln glitch.

There are other benefits to running that path as well. Picking up the grass crest shield is a huge benefit as the stamina regen is important for melee boss fights as well as the constant marathon running. You save time over the long run. The red tearstone ring being on the same path only helps out more.
I tried a different method which had me take a quick detour in Anor Londo to kill the giant blacksmith and grab his hammer which does really nice damage to the end bosses and the stamina drain on 2h r1 attacks is minimal so dps is huge. However it's probably not worth it if you go the BK halberd route.
Also not using the Chaos covenant shortcut was a calculated choice. Going the full route takes longer than giving 30 humanity to open the shortcut, but it ends up being shorter once you factor in all the extra humanity collection and time to use them to reach 30.
One more thing that is not as noticeable is by not using Pyro you don't have to stop at the chaos covenant bonfire at all. With pyro you have to stop there and upgrade your flame and the previous guys used that bonfire to be able to warp back with the lord vessel. I figured out pretty quickly though that the run back up from Quelaag is time consuming and it's faster to just homeward bone from Ceasless back to the bonfire near sen's and then just run back down for the bed of chaos. Jumping down blighttown platforms is much faster than climbing up.
I think there is a chance to beat the time by killing some of the bosses quicker, but even so it won't be by much. My problem is I play on 360 and if I resort to the quit/reload at any time I'm screwed since xbox users have to go through the entire logo process on a reload. Sucks.

Dark Souls: SL 125, SL 120 (main), SL 1 - May 1, 2012 4:36 pm GMTThe other day, Thanatos on Twitch set a new overall world record, under 35 minutes. It was pretty amazing.
- May 1, 2012 4:46 pm GMTYeah Thanatos did well on that one, throwing all the way to the mimic chest in Anor Londo was a cool surprise. For a second I was like wha...? and then it hit the mimic chest.
And with this 1:09 full speedrun, it's kind of like extra fun when he beats both firesage boss and centipede boss on top of all the other bosses. Solo'ing centipede fast was neat to see with lava all around.
Anothing thing is that Humanity popping to hit 30 with Chaos covenant to hit Izalith shortcut is a massive time sink and boring so also nice that he skipped all that. - May 1, 2012 5:01 pm GMTActually, I just saw he got 32:47 earlier today (31:31 by game time). Amazing.
- May 1, 2012 5:47 pm GMTIf anyone has a link for the thanatos kiln-glitch run would definitely check it out.

Is very hard to do, not easy to copy at all, I will definitely try it if I was able. - May 1, 2012 9:13 pm GMTFractured speed runs are never really impressive to me. The longer a game is the most planning and preparation must go into it.
The 100% speed runs of OoT and MM and games like Diablo 2 100% sorcessess are FAR FAR more interesting than the major skip glitches and TAS runs.

I just checked out the new Thanatos runs. Thanks for the links. Really nice run with some nice touches. Going for Smough first with pine resin on Crystal Halberd was interesting. He still got rocked early though lol. Also the zigzags on the gargoyle up/down ramps in Anor Londo and the SK parry were nice. He avoided getting hit in the back you could see the misses. And as always the Loyd's touchdown throw is classic. - May 2, 2012 7:04 am GMTUhhh.. Your video is gone O.o

Crap I was going to watch it today and it's gone. Anyone else have any awesome speed runs that are not fractured or glitched?
