You pretty much have to use Iron Flesh. I tried it a few times as this build (greatsword+15, black iron +3, power within, 50str, 41end, 20dex, 20vit) It's a hard hitting build. Upwards of 700 damage a hit. Unfortunately The Lord of Cinder never stops swinging and he will get you long before you get him. I switched over to Iron Flesh and got him on the second gothrough. Unfortunately the knights never dropped a black night greatsword for me.

For the no spells, beefy melee type, try this (I went in with 40 END, Havel's Armor (minus the helm), a black knight shield, Havel's Ring, Ring of Favor and Protection, and Gravelord +5): Enter fog, dodge first lunge and defend in close range until he enters his multiple sword attack sequence (you learn to recognize it). Parry his 2nd attack and riposte. As he recovers either heal if needed, or switch to 2H and attack him when he stands up again until he staggers (2 hits for me). Switch back to 1H and start the cycle over. You must avoid his grab attack as it puts you out of close range and causes him to be less predictable. After I worked out the timing, the only damage I took in the fight was from fire getting past the shield. Hope this helps.

Released in the US 4.10. Played through by GameSpot in 1 Week While I'm still in the starting area o_O Well okay I have played a lot of other games as well in that week but Kudos, I think that was fast :D

Also, for those of us who DIDNT use spells, or at least defensive ones, for that matter, this fight is a real b!tch, as you really can't afford to take any hits; yes, you gotta be able to dodge about 70% of his moves, while always trying to keep max distance with guard up for the rest of the time. In this strategy, the safest time to attack Gwyn is either when he kicks (if you got a quick weapon speed), or when he attempts to grab you, giving you time for even a slow weapon swing. This will require patience, but as in my victory, it will be the only way. Good luck, to anyone else on this fight.

Gwyn was tricky for me; at least he's not as annoying as Four Kings (in my opinion). Still, liked the fight.
