I think the last time I loved a game this much was probably Borderlands 1 and Farcry 2. Not surprising that I love this game so much because it's almost a hybrid of those two but with zombies.
I've beaten the game, got every achievement possible and yet I can't stop playing. I've been replaying with a different character because I want to try them all out.
So here's the break down. The story line is really simple, there's a zombie outbreak on the island and each of the four characters is trying to get off of it to survive. That's pretty much it.
The game has several different locals all of which are completely different from each other. I don't want to ruin the game at all by revealing the different locals, but each is so different from each other that it's part of what keeps the game feeling fresh.
The characters are vastly different from each other in abilities, for me I found some better than others. Sam being my favorite followed by Xian. I found the Logan character the worst as he just dies too easily.
Sam is a brute who can dish out a lot of blunt force damage and can take more damage than any of them. He's a good solid character. Xian is good with sharp weapons, and handles the zombies really well. Logan basically throws sharp blades, that sometimes boomerang back to him. I found Logan can't absorb a lot of damage and I died the most often with him. And the last character Purna is well balanced but unfortunetly most of her strengths lies in guns. The problem with this is that in the first area you really don't find many rounds of ammunition or guns. But later on in the game she truly shines once guns start to become more frequent and you get the ammunition mod.
Where this game shines other than a pretty big open world to explore is that character building is fun. I love going up levels and throwing another slot onto my skill tree. The skill tree itself is nothing new, it's the same kind of skill tree that you see in a lot of games now.
Modding weapons is fun too. Mods are aquired by finishing missions and by simply exploring. This game rewards exploring because you never know what you'll find, from hidden crates with great weapons, to hidden mods, facts, id cards, and secret skulls that help you craft secret developer mods that are really powerful. SO EXPLORE EVERYWHERE!!!!
I can't say that there's a lot of variety of monsters in this game but it's never a problem because the game is pretty good at introducing new types of zombies and human enemies. The thing I love is that each type of special zombie makes their own noise. I know which zombie is in an area before I see them just by the sounds they make.
What I really love most about this game is that it rewards smart thinking. Thinking outside the box will get you really far. For example in an early mission where you have to aquire gas from a gas station to burn some bodies. You have to enter the gas station from the roof and than drop down through a hole. Inside the station is a really tough Thug Zombie(the toughest zombies you encounter for a while). I picked up a propane tank laying on the ground outside, threw it up on the roof, then climbed up on the roof, picked the tank up and threw it down the hole. I then dropped into the hole. I then thew my weapon at the tank killing the Thug instantly. Smart thinking like that will make the game so easy for you. Use your environment to assist you. Climbing on top of cars can stop groups of zombies from reaching you. Then just crouch and slice/bash their heads.
I could go on about this game because i love it so much, it features great co-op play so you can join other peoples games, or they can join you. Or you can simply turn off the online, play single player undisturbed. This game thought of it all.
I will end by saying this. I love this game, and I know some people get frustrated with it. If you're one of those people and would like a little advice on how to survive message me. I'll be glad to help...simple advice sometimes just stand your ground, and then a simple kick will stop them in there tracks, just kicking them before you swing will help you tremendously. Also raise you stamina on your skill tree as much as you can. I'm not a person who likes to throw slots in things that lower prices, sure it's great to buy things cheaper but that doesn't help me survive when I'm surrounded by a group of zombies.

It's pretty good, not what we were hoping for, but alright.
