To this day my hardcore achievement is my crowning achievement. I just hope if there's a Hardcore mode this time, that there is more than skittles waiting at the end of that blood soaked rainbow.

I used only the Plasma Cutter and Line Gun I believe. Fully upgrading stasis charge and duration is important to me for more time to breath and Damage for those weapons tears those limbs up! And it helps to have a general knowledge of which enemies will be coming from where, which comes from experience and some memory.

Just pretend that there's something clever written here, because, right now, there isn't, and it boggles my mind why you are even reading this.

Up to about Chapter 7 (Where you unlock the Force gun) I think I used a Plasma Cutter, Detonator and Plasma Rifle combo. Sticking mostly with the Plasma Cutter and using the Detonator for scripted event enemies, I only using the Plasma Rifle for it's alternative fire for knocking enemies down/swamers. After Chapter 7 I switched to a Plasma Rifle for the Force Gun and I think I threw in a Ripper for good measure.
As for upgrades; Put EVERYTHING into Damage for the Plasma Cutter, let's you tear through the enemies, then focus on upgrading Health and Stasis, after that you can upgrade what you want.

I didn't use any suits because I'm cheap and didn't feel like shelling out

it was pretty tough but not nearly as much as master ninja on ninja gaiden 2.
anyways the only thing you need to know are the enemy locations.
you should buy and upgrade that weapon with the mines. could come in handy if you know everything about this game

Those who preordered the game will have an edge, since they have a special Force Gun unlocked from the start.

There is no such thing as a "Quick Time Event done right".
A game that has Quick Time Events is a "video game done wrong".

I used just the Ripper, don't worry about suit or kanisis upgrades.
Upgrade your stasis a bit but ignore duration, nothing will live that long.
Carry a plasma cutter with 1 fully ammo pack, no upgrades
Upgrade pump all your extra nodes into the Ripper.
With 1 blade you can clear out a room full of advanced slashers.

Ripper huh? I always felt like the ripper is weaker in DS2. But then again I haven't upgraded it much in DS2.
But I don't like its short range! Will it still be good for hardcore?

Ripper is a lifesaver on Hardcore. Saves ammo, does great damage, and has decent stun - until the roid rage necros show up. Javelin also fits this category if you have the aim to truly make it sing.

Roid Rage? Ya mean Brutes? You only need 1 or 2 shots of Stasis on them and they drop easy.
The only thing you gotta worry about in Hardcore is instant death sections. The Necro's are actually the least lethal thing on the station.

I only used the rifle and contact beam through my Hardcore play. Like, someone else said, the environment hazards are the most dangerous part of Hardcore. Though, those parts with having to wait for Ellie to unlock the door and the mine/drill ride almost made me give up on the achievement.

Dude, not even a speed run on easy with the hand cannon would be 3 hours.

Yeah, I've tried. Fastest I've been through the game blasting my way through with the handcannon is about 5 hours. I just don't think you can run much faster through it.....unless you are modding it and all necromorphs that spawn freeze in their tracks and then burn to ashes. In which case, its just cheating.

I too call BS on Goomba re: the time. And I think most of us probably did our first save on disc 2.
To the folk that use the ripper - I really have a lot of respect for them. I just do not like that gun. It is fun to use, sure, but I just crap myself when I see necros getting that close to me before I've been able to do much damage. And when you have those vomiting guys the ripper is not so great for me simply because you are getting swarmed by regular necros while that guy is puking on you.
I used PC for most of the game until I got the Force Gun. Then I spammed that thing like crazy. I carried a detonator for those times when I knew I'd get rushed or back-attacked. I loved having it for those velociraptor like guys b/c sometimes I just got spooked when they come flying at you. Finally I carried the Contact Beam for the boss/miniboss fights. Even without upgrades it would tear through bad guys.
But yes, I do desperately hope they have a HC mode in DS3 and that there is some more wonderment at the end like the foam hand. I enjoyed using it quite a bit.

Just beat Hardcore today! Damn that was intense.

You have destroyed so much. What is it, exactly, that you have created? Can you name even one thing? I thought not.

Once I was able to use the Pulse Rifle, that's all I needed to kick some Necro's ass.

Fun little trick, when you see a puker or a Cyst (organic landmines), DON'T kill it!
You can catch the pukers "puke bomb" and use it as a 1 shot grenade, see an advanced slasher? PUKE BOMB!
Cysts are like grenade factory's.
A few tips.
1. Beat the game a few times, learn the spawn points.
2. Aim for the legs, not the arms. Once the leg is off, the arms are wide open, and they can no longer sprint or jump.
3. Use TK like your life depends on it...it kinda does.
4. Don't upgrade Air, HP, Stasis Charge, or Kinises..
5. Know where your going to save, TRY to make it to Disc 2 first.
6. If you die, take a breather.
7. Only carry 1 or 2 guns, that will increase the amount of ammo dropped.
8. Bring weapons that have ammo capacity, screw damage, it won't help you here unless your using the Ripper in which case Damage and Duration are important.
9. Don't get greedy with items, if you have a small med pack and you need the space for something els, drop it.
10. Sell EVERYTHING you don't need, money matters in Hardcore.
11. When buying Med Kits, only buy Med-Large, Small won't help.
12. Stay calm, don't panic, and never! EVER! Aim for the head!
