Dead Space 3 (Limited Edition) User Review

- The Bottom Line:
- "Immersive"
I read the blogs and reviews and all I have to say is; "What is wrong with you weirdos?" This is another great addition to the gaming series. The graphics are improved, the music and sound effects will still send tingles up your spine and the story, although strange at first, is a very good compliment to the over all trifecta of terror.
I am actually very new to this series. I only recently started playing the first Dead Space just last month. I had avoided this game like the cute girl at the party with the "cold sore" for years. But as with many Americans I was finally brow beaten and subdued by the growing advertising for this game; Dead Space 3. So I picked it up, cheap by the way, and started down the road of several near heart attacks. It should be stated that if you have heart problems you should be wary of playing these games but I digress. I have never been more terrified yet more immersed in a game than I was in the first episode of this series. "Horrible", "Terrifying", "Why am I playing this", "Eff this game". These were all things I blurted out as I wove my way through Dead Space and then of course Dead Space 2. Thats right I finished the first and went straight out and got the second. I had to, I had to play the third and Im not on of those people that like to just pick up a book and start my reading in chapter 8.
The third is well planned and I like the turns in the story. I like the fact that you battle the unitologist as well as the waves of necromorphs. The new weapon system is strange at first but once you get the hang of it, it becomes one of the coolest additions to any game in recent memory. I like the co-op game play but do wish that it was actual 2-player and not "internet friend" 2-player. I love the ration coupon system allowing you to buy extra resources WITHOUT using actual paper money.
My only gripes so far is that I have had some issues with the save game. I dont like the new save system only because I have saved and reloaded only to find my character several chapters back from when I actually saved. I am pretty sure it is an EA issue because my friend with an XBOX has had the same issue. Also, as much as I love the new weapons bench, thats how much I disliked it at first. I got over it obviously but it was such a change from the original "store" system that it was mildly challenging. Thank you Visceral. Another great edition to the Dead Space series.
I am updating my review because I have completed the game, on easy of course, and needed to further my argument against the nay sayers. The story gets better as the game progresses. Yes, the side characters were mildly pointless and all died really without a lick of sleep lost but the twist at the end is fantastic.
