I have a quick newbie question if you don't mind. I'm sure this info is around somewhere and I just haven't found it.
Are you able to sell items in this game or something equivalent? For example, I've picked up a lot of slave's shields I'll never use. If I don't want a piece of equipment do I just drop it on the spot? Keep it stored with the guy in the Nexus? What's the best thing to do?
Figured I'd ask this here since it's a thread geared towards newbies and will probably keep the "lol newb" responses to a minimum :p

Thanks for taking the time to write this beginner guide SaikaiDreams. I live in the UK and just recently got this game but am having a hard time understanding what the heck is going on, and the other guides on here go a bit over my head with all the information; I've managed to learn quite a lot from your guide.
It's a shame that the developers didn't try a little harder to actually have the game itself offer more tips/hints/advice. I know people enjoy the fact that the game is massively challenging and requires you to actually think, but having little-to-no information about in-game stuff is just puzzling, since without a guide the game will likely turn many people away (who would welcome a challenge, but dislike not knowing what's going on).
Anyway, with this extra information from your guide I can maybe progress a little easier. Thanks.

Excellent post.
I'm 45 hours into this (week and a half) and deliberately went in 'blind', knowing nothing to speak of, and had a lot of fun starting the game that way. Still, I really wish I'd have known some of this to start, particularly regarding Royals. I'd restart as a Royal in a second if I wasn't already 45 hours deep, and I hate the fact that I'm tempted to do so anyway.
Great job on this SaikaiDreams; all beginners should be reading it.

Luck is also the only stat that ups your plague resistance, which is useful for PVP and zone 5. It's also useful early on in the game because you will get more shards and IMO upgrading your weapons to quality or crushing for a melee character has a bigger impact than upping STR or AGI by a few points. It's all about time like you said and I hate spending a lot of time farming crap. So yeah, I'm being a Luck apologist, but IMO it shouldn't be overlooked.
Also, the royal's starting weapon is superb for a lot of the game since you don't have to let down your guard to attack. You simply hold block and then when something attacks you and you block it, stab away without letting go of block. It makes the game extremely easy for a lot of the fights.

I haven't gotten the game yet but can you sell stuff? If not then what do you do with like 5 of the same weapon?
Jan 7, 2010 12:16 pm GMT
Nope, you can't. You just drop them or store them with this guy that holds your stuff for you in the Nexus if you think someone would ever want to trade for it or something, which isn't likely for most of the gear in the game since much of it is pretty easy to find.

Theres a bit of crossover but this faq does a good job of explaining things to someone who has even touched the game yet.

Great information in your post.

You might also consider adding information about how the online mechanics of this game work since it is a complete newbies guide.
Crofty, I'm in UK too. Not sure of my soul level but if you need help with anything just hit me up. PSN is Kogre.

Hmmm, If someone needs to be spoon fed the knowledge contained within this sticky, then they should probably trade in their copy of DS now and go buy a Barbie game.

Well, I didn't write it with the intention of it getting stickied. I was bored at work. As someone mentioned, a lot of people (myself included) enjoy figuring out things with no hints. I found it super rewarding. This is a thread for maybe the more casual gamers or maybe younger gamers whose primary experience in games is very forgiving and helpful. I kept reading posts where people would ask a lot of questions about these basic pieces of knowledge (how many "why can't I use magic" or "why won't the chick let me level up" threads have we seen?), and I just thought in combination with whatever threads are out there, I could spend a little bit of time to perhaps cover any holes or reinforce information found in other guides/threads. Like I said though, no intention to get stickied, I don't write guides, I think I would have organized it more. In short, this game is a true gem in a carebear gaming era that I want people to experience. I rarely get passionate about spreading the word about a game, but this is one of maybe the best games that I've ever played in 20+ years of gaming. This was intended for the vast amount of people who die like 50 times on 1-1, say, "I have no idea what's going on and frankly I don't care anymore," and then trade it in.

My post wasn't an attack on you personally, SaikaiDreams. I just found it a terrible shame that people need the information contained herein enough to sticky this posting. People could easily answer all their own tediously simple questions by simply reading the instruction booklet, playing the game and maybe visiting the wiki for some clarification of any finer details.

Just got the game to today and noticed there's always someone in each game boards bashing other players for not playing the game and figuring it out on there own. I for one work alot. Don't get alot of time to play games much less post on here. So if someone has already figured it out and posted for all others to see well then I thank them and use the knowledge to my advantage.
Wiki helps but misses alot of stuff. So I for one am about to enjoy this game to the fullest but won't be bashed for asking a question that 5,000 other people have figured out the answer to.

Thank you for the post Sekai. Read it from start to finish and after reading it I've got a good idea of what to do. Thanks again!
