This is a game that could have EASILY been f***ed up due to corporate meddling. Its a miracle this game even exists and is as good as it is. It doesn't try to be CoD nor be Gears of War, which is basically committing heresy now. Its proof that a non-generic action game can still succeed in the post-2005 gaming world.

It's not really that bizarre. Publishers take a lot of risks. They just don't get credit for it because most of the riskier games fail and people quickly forget about it. People also have trouble accepting that some developers like to make those types of games.

Gears of War is also a horrible example. The publisher originally commissioned the game as a vehicle based shooter. The developer ended up changing the game significantly and the publisher let them run with it. The publisher then thought the chainsaw bayonet was a potential issue, but still let the developer run with it. So, literally the most iconic aspects of Gears of War come from the publisher letting the developer run with risky ideas.

It's also not a miracle in the least. Stealth games with RPG features have been a fairly mainstream genre since the original Deus Ex came out and have gotten more and more popular over the last few years.

Some of the best PC games ever made in my opinion were made around 1998-2001. Deus Ex is to me a game that set the bar so high and changed how I view the world. DX:HR even with its flaws lives up to the original game compared to Invisible War. I certainly don't take it for granted.

I think it tries pretty hard to be Gears of War and CoD, in some aspects.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, asplain?

Just like. You never have to fire a gun in this game. Ever. Literally never have to. You can throw stuff and typhoon the bosses and that's it. Never have to shoot.
