A creatively done futuristic world with an immersive story through stealth and action.

The Bottom Line:
"Grows on you"
I've had some excitement about playing this game simply due to the reviews and overall concept. I looked forward to some quality sci-fi and that's what I got. Though the graphics and some of the gameplay mechanics seem just a smidge better than last generation, the game can still draw you in with its bold story about the potential future of humanity.

Though the graphics are definitely a bit lower level, I really had a solid time with much of the stealth opportunities in this title. It was refreshing to play a game that doesn't force you into one mold but allows you to set the course for gameplay in the majority of cases. Having grown somewhat tired of more conventional shooters, it was nice to play a game with a different tactic to getting the end game. I appreciated the effort and thankful for the overall fresh approach of Deus Ex.

Admittedly, the story is what grabbed me in the most and kept me going through the end. Yet, the climax was a bit of a downer and a bit anti-climatic considering the steady build up that had happened prior to the credits rolling. Likewise, the more gritty landscape and relationships in this title were a bit more serious and intentional that many games out there today which reminded me, in some instances, of Half Life 2's approach.

At the end of the day, this is a worthy game to play though it is too bad that the developers didn't focus as much on making this a truly current gen title. Considering what is capable on a PC, there was so much more than could have been done to make the cityscapes believable and real. As such, the game world felt a bit empty at times and not really worth checking out. This is probably my biggest disappointment as it took an open world game and made it feel quite a bit smaller. It made the game feel a bit more linear and not as thorough.
