...and boy, it was the most fun I've had with Deus Ex (discounting the first playthrough). In the short time I've been playing Deus Ex, I've had many stealth runs (even those with no kills/ghost), low-tech only, sniper, balanced... but I decided to make a "rambo" approach, I felt it was the only thing to be made for me... So I maxed Heavy weapons and defensive augs ASAP (playing with shifter so I could mix defensive augmentations), carrying the 3 big guns leaving me only with 6 slots for everything else (medkits, bio energy, lockpicks, tools, baton & pistol), dropping the baton temporarily to take weapon upgrades or new augs. By the time I reached the hangar, I was a walking tank, flaming everybody on the way. And late game it was pure rambo, just invincible with full augs, running through enemies with the flamethrower/plasma gun, just fearless. And that was in realistic.

Normally I played with a careful approach, waiting for the right moment to move, but this time it resembled like a Quake game. It was really fun.

I made the topic because I didn't see this type of playthroughs commented, not even in youtube (well, those are made on normal difficulty, no merit). Have you made something similar?

that's very nice to hear. Everyone should play this game (and all games of that kind, RPGs) in the way they like the most, with their own set of rules instead of relying on mods and complaining for "lame" ingame rules.
I think that it's even fair to use cheat codes to customize gaming experience even more. Feel like running amok on sturdy enemies? Spawn some rockets, and then a dozen hostile big bots, or karkians or Commandos and whatnot.

Spawn 25 karkians in the Hong Kong canals, and fight them underwater and make good use of your Aqualung aug.

Get invisible, spawn 43 Walton Simons all over Hell's Kitchen and let the hunt begin.

Spawn 73 pigeons in Unrealistic (they will explode when killed) and do some good old duck hunt.

Spawn 56 Unatco agents, and 68 NSF terrorists in the 'Ton hotel, pick your side and start some gang war.

Also note that in Shifter, you can spawn weapons on the ground and NPCs will go get them, so you can arm a whole mob of NSF Terrorists with plasma guns or PS260 and DTS... you can even make them allied NPC and let them follow you, and/or arm them yourself, just like Miguel in the prison level (shifter mod implements this). Make your own mob and then spawn 12 giant chinese bots and 25 riot police agents.

Make some Greasel Fighting in the Brooklyn station, like in Deus Ex 2. Bet on the fights

Make a whole goddamn arena with karkians and greasels and Walton Simons and whatnot, and place your bets or join the fight yourself. Hell it's even better than Oblivion's arena...

Hell, there's a video on YT where a guy kills mj12 agents by spawning VASES on them... I mean, why NOT? Use your imagination, and in DX you can do it. How can one POSSIBLY get bored in this game?

Just remember that this game uses a modified version of the Unreal engine, so it's meant to support such mob warfare (just don't exagerate, and keep NPC in the hundred and Bots in the dozen)

There are also some ingame rules that I don't like, most of them are fixed by Shifter but the rest, I "fix" them with cheat codes. For example, I ALWAYS get "hacking" to level 3 when I start a new game, for a simple reason: I don't like to wait for the ICEbreaker to get in, and since it's just a matter of time spent (and as such has no actual effect on gameplay, it's just BORING to wait 15 secs to get in) it's not an actual "cheat" for me, because it doesn't make hacking any easier, only faster for the sake of avoid waiting times.

Another thing: in my last gameplay I binded a key to the "spawnlam" code, and another one to the "spawnshuriken" code. It's great fun to throw lams and throwing knives out of nowhere, just for the hell of it. And then I reload the game and play "seriously". I don't think the Karma Police is going to beat me for using such "cheats"...
I also don't like the fact that the spy drone is "such a steaming pile of hippo crap" as someone pointed out in his guide, so instead of scrapping it (it's still a nice aug, it's just that it consumes too much BE) I reload my BE when I use it. Also, I don't use its EMP attack to kill bots because I think it's cheap, and I use it only for recon, and blow it up for use as a distraction, which is NOT cheap.

Back on topic, I had on schedule to start a new game in UNrealistic mode, using mostly big guns and explosives, little to no stealth, no lockpicks/electronics (just blowing stuff up), a single melee weapon for when I'm low on ammo (probably the crowbar, which actually becomes useful in Shifter), and lots of defensive augs.

I also want to make a "ninja" gamestyle (which will only be possible thanks to Shifter, which gives the option to kill bots using melee weapons) in which I will get medieval on enemies, sneaking on enemies and/or running on them with the speed aug, and spawning a couple dozen throwing knives at the beginning of each level, because in the game there are too few of them.

One last thing, I NEVER made a gameplay in which I installed the Health Regen, because it's way too cheap for my tastes. I will probably only use it in the Unrealistic gameplay, just to make things not-too-hard.

    Even with the Shifter changes?

I don't find health regen that cheap because i just think of it as being able to use bio cells as medkits, which are harder to find than medkits. But yes, that and cloaking are very cheap if you max them out but hey, no one forces you to use them

nope... if I never used it WITHOUT shifter, why shoud I use it "with" it? Especially since it makes the game easier, and I have to balance things out through use of cheats - yes, that's right you can actually use cheats to make the game harder, especially on games like this one, minecraft and Oblivion which allows for extensive console commands, and are thus very creative in the cheat department...

I think you've misunderstood, moonrask was referring to the fact that Shifter makes the Regeneration aug less effective so it isn't quite as broken, and was asking whether you would consider using the modified version of the aug. Obvoiusly you wouldn't if you are mainly trying to make the game harder, but it's a valid question.

The regen aug is still objectively superior, even with the shifter nerfs.

Being able to heal yourself up at the cost of (extremely plentiful) biocells and turning any repair bot into a medbot is too good to pass up

aaahhh, I get it. Well NO, it's still broken as has already been pointed out (btw, have I wrote the phrase correctly?)

The Flamethrower is, hands down, the most underrated and funniest weapon in the game. It really never gets old. And the GEP, well, nothing need be said about the GEP I think.

And the alternative is energy defense or emp defense right? An upgraded Health Regen basically does the same thing lol

hell yeah, Im going to make a Big Guns run just for the flamethrower! It's just soo cool! And in Shifter, it gets even better (can't remember exactly how, but the "enemies on fire" mechanic has been nerfed somehow, IIRC)
And it also added the ability to set enemies on fire using Flare Darts (which FINALLY have an actual purpose of existence...)

BTW, on an almost unrelated note (more related to the topic "strange playthroughs", I have to try this: Energy Shield level 4, strenght lvl 2, jump lvl 3, and doing kamikaze attacks with the explosive/gas barrels/tnt crates that I find throughout the levels... (wonder how I'm going to save the hostages, lol) In Human Revolution you can do something similar, there's a guy that made an entire section of the game using a VENDING MACHINE. Here it is, you definitely can't miss this one...

the problem with the GEP is you can't loot corpses.

    and I like looting corpses.

    its WHY I kill people.

yeah I guess you got the W rounds but only a few of those.

I'd rather just gas grenade them then shoot them in the head with a 10 mm.

    2 things:
    1) Emp shield SUCKS *****. It's just incredible how useless it is. I boosted it to lvl 4 JUST to be able to exit from the hong kong helipad without being damaged by the stream of current at the end of level, and... WTF!? I still DIE whenever I try to approach the electric circuit, because of the EMP damage to the head! That's beyond ridiculous, fortunately Shifter mod allows to change your augmentations in the slots... but I still lost 4 aug upgrade cannisters...
    oh well, screw that ****

    Set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True
    spawnmass augmentationupgradecannister 4

    way to go
(note: I put the code here for possible future reference, also someone should add it on Gamefaq Cheat list...)

    2) the Gep Gun is a very nice weapon. I like the way it is so clumsy when you're not a heavy weapon specialist (or don't have the related Augs, like speed), but then you really become a "walking tank" when you specialize that skill...
