I know it will never happen, but I'm just curious... for a game that most people on Xbox 360's and Ps3's have probably never played, and would feel like something fresh and new for them, and nostalgic for the ones who have.. why not bring it to the consoles with updated graphics?

I don't know anything about game developing, but wouldn't it be easier/cheaper for them to just update this game instead of making a new one? Are they finished with the series now? Have they already addressed this.. because I know I've heard other people say they'd play it.

Either way, I just finished H.R. and I'm going back to play this again because it was so long ago... I just wish I could play it with updated graphics.

Even something like what Bungie did with Halo Anniversary would be nice.

    HDTP beta release
    New vision
    Enb series

Those are close enough. See the topic "it's that time again" for links to these

I'll do that cuz I am planning on playing this game again soon, but I meant something that would be released across all platforms from Eidos/Ubisoft themselves... not just high texture mod packs.

By the way, I think I wanna try the new vision mod but what are the system requirements? I don't have a video card anymore so it would be intel hd 4000 or integrated graphics or whatever..
  • Jan 21, 2013 11:59 am GMT
It probably wouldn't work too well on an integrated card sadly. As I recall the installer for New Vision is larger than the original game, and each texture is pretty large.

Enb might work, but might cause some slowdown

HDTP is a little more moderate, but also might cause some slowdown.

these just update textures, don't they? so they're useless, it looks even worse when you slap high def textures onto crappy old models that move with crappy old animations.

HDTP adds new models for just about everything that it effects, however the beta does not change all items and NPCs. Even when they do release a full versoion it sadly probably won't have all NPCs effected due to remodeling and animating NPCs in this engine is a serious pain.

as for New Vision it has the most consistent and dramatic improvement since it drastically increases the definition of almost(?) all of the map textures. It makes all the maps look much more crisp and realistic. Can't change/improve the model here because all there is is world textures to begin with.

Enb is basically engine hacks enabling things like bloom and other common graphical effects used in modern games.. it helps to better emphasis the improvements of HDTP and New Vision

You judge the effects yourself from some media below:

Well I know Integrated Graphics is less than ideal, but I have an i5 3570k so the integrated video on that (I've heard) is like a low end Geforce card.

It's kinda weird that you can't find a set of sys requirements for any of these things... oh well.

I did download and install it, but am I supposed to copy the folders over and replace all the original textures? Or is there a separate launcher,.... (new vision)

Damn, got it to work but it was too laggy.. looked pretty good though

Why rehash what's already been done?

It would be awesome to promote laziness and sloth? I'd much prefer a new game or an entirely new ip.

While I do agree that this generation of consoles suffered from sequel syndrome more than any other generation, a handful of games are just crying to be remade.

Considering the current state of the world, a Deus Ex remake would be perfect.

Not a single game should be remade. We don't want videogames to become like the film industry.

If they gave us an updated game editor similar to the ones used in Morrowind/Oblivion/etc., I'd definitely support getting a remake of this, even if the game was only updated to use the same kinds of graphics & physics available in DX:IW. >.>

Well I did get it to work (didn't have Direct3d10 selected) and it makes the game a lot prettier to look at... But I still really think if they basically took Deus Ex Human Revolution's graphics/mechanics and applied it to this game's story that would be amazing to play, or maybe that's just nostalgia talking.

Still, New Vision is pretty awesome. Didn't really notice much of a difference with the HDTP beta.

PS I never heard anyone complain about the Black Mesa project, is it only seen as lazy when big game developers remake stuff?

I'd only complain if a company, with a massive budget, decided to do a rehash. For me it goes back to the movie industry; I don't want the video game industry to become that. I'd hope that we're too sophisticated to fall for that, unlike the denizens who sop up Hollywood.

Man, am I the only one that thinks that that JC model is kinda ugly? I also don't like the Gunther model...
