Devil May Cry took me by surprise when I rented it a few years back. I had no idea what it was and only rented it because the other game I had wanted was out.
All I can say is that this game took me by surprise!
I really got into it and enjoyed it a lot. It was different from most of the other games I had played. Just so action packed and fast paced.
Dante was a cool dude with a flashy personality and a cockiness that seemed to make him even more awesome. The game played pretty good although it did have a few troubles but no game is quite perfect.
The game stays constant with all out stylish crazy action. It has a gothic feel and offers you the classic monster/evil dude story. I love the gun and sword combo that usually isn't offered in the same game. The enviroment was well built and the atmosphere was right. From castles to intestines (yes intestines...) you explore it all. I really liked the diversity of the levels and even when you had to backtrack; things had changed a little to keep it all fresh. The enemies were very well done and challenging but not impossible. The story was good but not out of this world. I actually like how you'd just get thrown into a mission with only a hint of what the objective was. There is also secrets and upgrades to purchase throughout the game as well as a few nice bonuses after the game is completed.
Dante is really easy to control and has a lot of cool moves that aren't too hard to execute. You also get to equip new weapons and guns to change things up a bit. You'll love swinging a sword or using martial arts to bust up the bad guys.
The music is also really good and fits this game perfectly. You really rock out when you are kicking butt!! From the cool and hard sounds to the eerie and atmosphereic melodies; this game really blends it all together nicely.
The camera was a bit odd at times and forced you to guess sometimes. The delay in the pause feature aggravated me a lot. I'd press start but it wouldn't pause right away and I'd get hit or killed.
This game won't please all but for me it had everything I wanted. You should at least give this game a rent and try it out. It's a nice refreshing change of pace and keeps you on your toes. The action never runs dry. You'll be into it from start to finish. Dante will grow on you with his attitude and his flare. You'll enjoy wathcing him do his thing. So go ahead and help Dante get into the game!!

DMC it's so hard that can be really annoying, but awesome gameplay, story and occasionally great camera effects save it.
