So, I suppose you can't exploit Specialist combing, huh?

I've been playing Disgaea DS recently- that board is dead as a doornail- and I had a great idea! Why not subdue one specialist, combine it with an unsubdued specialist, and subdue that specialist! Why? If you do the algebra, you should net a stronger specialist that way: since subduing a specialist doubles its stats, you effectively double the original tame specialist's stats twice.
Sadly, this does not work. For a game that practically revolves around exploiting game mechanics, it seems that this trick has been fixed to not work...no matter how to go about it, the final specialist is always going to have stats twice the sum of the components base stats- I didn't figure the game would remember what the individual components were.
And now, I am depressed.

It's well known that you can't do that.
Also, it's really simple to show what the game does.
(Subdued level /2) + unsubdued level = final level of combined
So a level 400 subdued and a level 100 unsubdued makes a level 300 unsubdued specialist. Subdue it and you get a level 600 specialist.
For the record, subduing the unsubdued gets the same result. So 400 (subdued) and 100 unsubdued, subdue it to get level 200, add them together and you get a level 600 specialist. Same as before.

For the record, that partially does work in this iteration. The Resident Boost path (was that what it's called? The not-item-boost one, it's been awhile) gives a multiplier to innocents when subdued. Because of that, you can use that exact method combined with Enforcers to get significantly higher level innocents than you would just adding them together, and then you can Gency out and repeat. This works best on floor 96-99, where you've hit all the path options and therefore get the largest boost. I can't recall the exact number, I want to say at that boost it's something like 6.8 times the unsubdued level, but it's been awhile. So (assuming that number's right), you put a 200 subdued and a 20 unsubdued on the item, combine, get a 110 unsubdued, reset until you find it when you enter on floor 96, Gency out, and now it's 748 subdued. You then add anotjher unsubdued to the item, combine, and, well, it goes up rather quickly.
This is the method people were using hen the game came out before the RosenQueen dupe was discovered. Due to not being able to really use this method for dual stat innocents, item specialists, statisticians, or actually duplicate gear, it never really came back into favor even after that method was fixed.
That or everyone but me forgot.

Innocent Boost. and i hear it does increase the specialist's level but never really did that cuz of the Rosen Queen glitch.

I have used it (patched knowingly, like a bit of a challenge) and it is very effective at increasing the innocents level. It's a shame there isn't a way to make it work with other innocents like the statistician, guardian, fencer etc. Would make levelling them alot less tedious.

Now, if only I had Disgaea 4; I'd love it to come out for the 3DS.

Don't forget about the Innocent Boost panels. They'll double your innocent gain.
So if you had a 300 Gladiator (Sub) that you combined with a 100 Gladiator (Unsub), you'd end up with a 250 (Unsub) Gladiator. If you were to subdue it normally, you'd get 500, the expected result. But if you subdue it on an Innocent Boost panel, you'll get 1000.
This is in additional to the Innocent Boost paths, but those can take some levels to build up. The Innocent Boost panels are the way to go unless you dupe or use Puppy Paw.
You can also clear 5 floors, then save/reload if you don't get the boost panel.
You can use this on dual specialists easily. Just collect lots of unsubdued ones, move via Enforcer, combine, and then save/reload until you get an Innocent Panel.
Don't forget, you can use an Onmyo to change the Geo Panels once per map!

And where exactly are you finding so many unsubdued dual stat ones?
