Hi. I finished Disgaea and played about halfway through Disgaea 2 on PS2. I purchased the first one for ps3, but seeing all the sequels pop up in the search has caused me to wonder if I'm wasting time playing a game I already played. How is 4? Does it stack up better than 3? Which has more and balanced classes? Cameo appearances are also cool. Most importantly which one feels better game wise? Thanks.

If you have been through the grind already in one game, then you will get almost the exact same sensation when you play other games in the series.

It's my favorite one in the series, but it is also has the most irritating post-game in the series. The RNG is the dictator of far too many things in the game and this will be apparent to you, even though you haven't played all of D2 and D3. Other than that, there is still plenty to enjoy about it.

Yes and no. The more merciful RNG in D3 makes the process of making progress in the post-game feel like a grind, whereas in D4 it feels like you're rolling dice for hours. That in itself would make me replay D3. D4 has some flare that D3 doesn't. I personally think that the innate evilities that units were given in D4 makes battles much less irritating. This was a huge factor for me. If you don't like monsters, or didn't feel inclined to use them in D1 and D2, then that will change in D4. They got some considerable buffs that make them a joy to incorporate into a party.
Don't know which one to pick? Flip a coin. Better grinding progress and tolerable RNG (D3) or a glossy, grating grinding process with some harsh RNG, but better characters (D4).

They're both lacking and equally broken.

Then you will arguably like D4 more because of this (not including DLC).
"Most importantly which one feels better game wise?"I'm only in it for the grind, so my answer won't help much here. I had a much grander time with D4 than D3, but this is mostly due to the milestones I reached in D4 that I fell short of in D1-D3.

Thank you for answering my questions, Arcane. Particularly the portion on monsters, they normally end up as collected benchwarmers. I think I'll buy Disgaea 4 today. I'll most likely end up buying the other two as well in the near future since I have poor budgeting skills.
