- Oct 12, 2012 12:57 pm GMTI'm a general gaming fan, need a new game to play, love all sorts of genres.
Seen reviews for this and it's highly praised. What games out there is this most similar to?

- Oct 12, 2012 1:00 pm GMTYou can teleport.
Just Saiyan - Oct 12, 2012 1:00 pm GMTI suppose I shouldn't mull over my posts for so long.
- Oct 12, 2012 1:01 pm GMTIts like assassin fallout biocreed shock with crappy graphics. Gameplay mechanics and kills are great but the game is extremely short if you arent into achieve, ent hunting.. One is complete the game with no kills.
Got it tuesday morning when ebgames opened and had the campaign finished about 5 hrs later. Fun game but not worth full price.

Never played any of them.
Go play Deus Ex, then, it's amazing.

Out of all games mentioned I have only played BioShock (which is my favourite game).

Metacritic Score, 45 Reviews, average score of 89% and you STILL need to ask if you should by it???
I hate these stupid questions.
Reviews mean nothing.

http://i.imgur.com/4RgpO.gif - Oct 12, 2012 3:26 pm GMT**** that. There's a lot of people here who will bash the game and people who like it for free. Why make the job easier by making an interested person feel like crap:
TC, how often do you replay games? One of the assets and deficits simultaneously can be a relatively quick turnaround. 5 hours is not representative of a play-through that had any consideration behind it. If you know exactly where to go, skip scenes and just kill followed by exiting...yeah it might be possible. Real time you can expect is anywhere from 12-24 hours. The value comes with playing through with different approaches. You should know upfront there is no New Game Plus feature. I'm making an outline for people to follow to simulate one, but it's by no means a perfect replacement.
Have you watched any gameplay videos for this? The Debut Trailer is a good indication of how it works mechanically but the game will not look anything like that (it should be self-evident, but one topic had a lot of mileage with the claim that it was false advertising even though there's a wealth of material out there to get the true gauge of the game). The graphics have been very polarizing. Textures aren't the best, but the overall aesthetic is very appealing imo. The occasional animation can be stiff too, but mostly everything fits to my view. While the graphics are up in the air for some, the gameplay is great. You may hear some people laud some mechanics as revolutionary. This is a small hyperbole. Blink---the signature power, creates "fast stealth". It cuts out the stigma of having to be slow by offering great mobility and the first level is gifted to you for free. I haven't upgraded it yet since I'm playing non-lethal, stealth with no upgrades at all on Normal.
I'm going all over the place at the moment. It'd be easier for you to ask questions and I'll try to answer them. If you're not averse to spoilers, Total Biscuit has a run-down that is thorough and should leave little questions as to whether this game is for you. It's 43 minutes though. If that's too much, type in Dishonored Bethesda Softworks in YouTube. Their channel should pop up or one of their official videos.
If anyone has unbiased videos to share that would help I'd imagine. In a separate topic, IGN apparently had a good video to judge by.
That's all I can think to say for now except for one thing: I've seen a lot of negative topics for this game today, most just treating this like an unofficial sequel to Viva Piņata to be whacked. Others have real points and they've stuck in my head at the moment. The positives though---a set of powers that all blend together in a symbiotic, systemic way, multiple path-ways to your objectives when you get Blink (the beginning is intentionally bottle-necked), expansive level design, a great story that, admittedly, you absorb through interacting with the world (the main story is kind of like a ribbon keeping everything together---the present is beneath the ribbon)---it's a game that returns in spades what you put into it.
Sorry I guess I found my rhythm heh. It's not a game you slide into easily. I would love to say buy this now, but if you can rent it first that might be best as you said your interests are general. I think it's demanding unless you gimp it intentionally. Hope this helped. - Oct 13, 2012 1:24 am GMTThanks for the well thought out response.
So it's aimed to be played through multiple times. How are the acheivments on this? Are their any ridiculous ones or could I get them all buy doing all the different playstyles?
How about difficulty levels? Fixed or choosable?

The achievements are diverse, you can see a full list of them when you click on the Cheats tab. There are four difficulties, up to Very Hard, though it's still pretty easy. Just they hit harder and have better detection.

Implying how someone else feels about something has any bearing on how you feel about it. What is your point?

http://i.imgur.com/WoISA.gif - Oct 13, 2012 8:24 am GMTThere are no difficulty based achievements, so if you wanted to (which I don't know why anyone would do this short of caring more about the number than getting an experience out of doing it with a little challenge) you could just sweep them up on Easy. There are a couple that make it so you'll need discrete play-throughs to get them though. The list is a good one in that it's spread across the board to encourage different style exploration. Some of the achievements are contingent on having certain powers, not upgrading anything, upgrading a bunch of things...each one has an opposite basically so you can depend on a couple times through.
I'm taking my time partly by choice and partly because I can't play when I'd like (such as now... -_-). Anyway, I'm sorry it took me a little to get back to you. I haven't been checking through as much as I thought I would, but if you have any in-depth stuff to ask you can PM me. As long as this pops up to the top every once in awhile, I can answer here too. - Oct 13, 2012 8:37 am GMTkylewilkie posted...

Its only possible to beat in 5 hours if you just run through and pay no attention to detail or explore. Basically the equivalent to a speed run. If this game is 5 hours long, then so is Skyrim. - Oct 13, 2012 8:45 am GMTThis game is clearly influenced by Bioshock (my favorite single player game of all time) with some elements of stealth based games - you can see the Bethesda influence as well in the gameplay. It is a lot of fun and has an engaging story. If you take your time with the game, pay attention to the setting, read the various notes and books that you pick up, and play the game with a primary focus on steath it should take you quite a while to beat. A lot has been made about 'lackluster' graphics but I disagree - the graphics aren't the best I've seen this gen but they are far from poor. Keep in mind that this game is no where near as great as Bioshock, if you are a fan of that genre than I think it will be worth your while.
