CES 2013 - Razer Edge Hands-On

For the starting price I am actually diggin this over the Xi3. Full win8 environment, Kepler, etc. Only thing I can see problematic to get used to is that wonkey console controller setup, add a ps3 or xbox controller, yes.

Why would someone buy this when you can get a better laptop for the same price?

Looks like an expensive piece of low end to mid end performing hardware that gets easily outperformed by a gaming laptop of similar price. 

What's the real point? Touch screen? Slightly smaller form factor? Nothing amazing imo. Kepler 640M, a class 2 mobile gpu for such a high premium price? Oh that's right, that's all that could fit in it. Sorry to say but technology's just not up there yet for small form factor gaming on modern games. Laptops are still twice as expensive as desktops for just for equal performance, and decent gaming laptops are already too huge to really be "mobile", don't even start on tablets yet. Business folks just trying to milk the  rich folks with the deep pockets I guess, unless they really do think a majority of the people are satisfied with paying full price for versions of games that have crap framerates and / or severely toned down graphics.

Did I miss the part about pricing of the actual tablets? He said the controller dock would be $250?! This thing is gonna cost a fortune based on the specs (which aren't crazy-good anyway).

I bet if Apple made this everyone would love it straight away. I like how versatile this is but only thing that lets it down is the graphics card. A 640M? I can see this being a good option for people who want to use something on the go that doesn't weigh around 3-4KG.You can get a decent gaming rig for the same price but I'm not sure about people resting their rigs on their laps while being on the go. As for Alienware or G series Asus they can get bulky and weight a lot. The price may need to come down a little bit though. $800-900AUD is about all it should retail for.

I like how Shaun is engrossed with playing Dishonored while the rep is trying his hardest to focus him on the actual tablet.

Specs sound cool and I like the idea of how a tablet form factor can do "everything" a PC can, but there are still details regarding "true" performance and battery life (if they're advertising 2-4 hours gaming, makes me wonder about a real-world scenario) and all these configurations costing extra really add up. In addition, the attachments look clunky to carry around on a regular basis so the whole "portable" appeal is kinda lost. I think the most appealing part would be having a "laptop" style system where you can detach the screen and attach it to the TV peripheral. Even then, it would basically do what I am doing now with an HDMI and Toslink cable.

HAHAHhahhahaah... Cash grab. This isnt the first time Razer does shit like this. Last year it was a 300$ wireless headset that gives you brain tumours, and another lazy augmented laptop that had razer name one it. By buying this you tolerate their bitch behaivour.       Stay away from this!

Nice concept, bad price. Can't pay $1000 for something that can be lost or stolen so easily. The Specs are worth the price but I would rather just get a really good PC for that price.

Rather spend that amount of money on getting a decent gaming PC... Would you really enjoy playing "Console Mode" out and about... People get mugged just using their phone so how many people will get mugged/run over when walking around with that in their hands. This gen consoles can just about handle modern games so how long would this last untill it's out of date.

I get the feeling Razer is going for this like Apple of the PC gaming space type of thing. They have the very Macbook looking gaming laptop and now this tablet. . . . Gaming phone next?

For it's price you better off getting a great PC or an Xbox/PS3 with 10 games.

Nice kit. Cute concept. But, honestly, I have no need for any of the things that it does. Maybe others will.

I really hope no one makes a profit off of this so we don't see any more of them.

I can bet even if people buy it, the way its made, they're going to break it in rage.

bad timing. when the next-gen games come out, this thing will be eating dust and you will have to pay another 1000 to buy a newer version of it

I will get the cheaper better revised version that they will release in a few years. Fix that battery life issue first, and don't make all the accessories cost as much as some tablets out there on the market already.

Interesting concept...

People say PC is dying, what is occurring is more that people are preferring to play low end games on mobile devices. Good games do well on PC. Every year it seems like a game has record sales. 

This is more than a tablet. It just has the touch screen and the look of one. It really is a laptop. The difference is it is running a full version of windows and uses higher end processors versus tablets which tend to be more like netbooks.

you could get a better laptop for that price! if they really want to make it work they should make it the same price of the ipad, i would definitely get this instead of any new ipad apple throws at us!

It seems that nowadays it is more important what you use to play games, rather than the games themselves. "Panem et circenses"

First it was the consoles, now mobile and tablet. Pc gaming is dying.
Ironically, PC is what drives the technology. However, to me, PC has
been the best platform to play with.  Platforms like this one, a mutated
pc-tablet-console, showed in the presentation, really does not appeal
to me. To me, in the long run, with divices like this one, you end up
spending more money.

Seems kinda cool but I'd rather have the X13 Piston myself.

It's great I can do with this everything I do with my PC, the idea of playing Metro 2033 maxed out on the go is really appealing.

This tablet is actually priced against equivalent laptops and can be a tablet , laptop or portable handheld gaming device, the only downside is the controller docking station is overpriced compared the rest of the accessories & the battery isn't amazing either.competitively.

the pathetic battery life makes this not worth it...won't even last a full plane trip cross the country!
