Harvey Smith, co-creative director of Dishonored, explains how fans at QuakeCon 2012 have been finding news ways to play upcoming cyberpunk RPG Dishonored.
it has kind of an old fashion gameplay, where u just click at the door and it just opens and closes without u even moving ur hand, this looks kind of cheap
Harvey please tell me you brought more over from Deus Ex then just the action/stealth gameplay options.
wonder how quick turning into a rat and blowing up guys with trap will get old.. i say watching 2 times.
reminds me of VATs mode in fallout 3 in regards to it being entertaining to watch ppl die in slow mo
For me as many I hope this game will be something but not too easy which may frustrate people, I guess getting all the skills from the beginning of the game is a bad idea.
I do not understand why all you guys are so excited about this game. Ok, i agree that there are multiple ways to kill enemies, but you are missing one very important element: THE GRAPHICS SUCK!!!! It looks almost like a PS2 game!!!
@esricardo999999 Well it's deliberately quite stylised - it's hard to tell whether they're cell-shaded or not, but tthey certaintly have that Borderlands-esque feel about them - so they're not meant to be realistic. I do agree that some of the textures look slightly bland, but the lighting is very well done. The graphics are meant to atmospheric, not realistic. I don't think they'll be a huge selling point for the game, but I don't think they're at all bad either.
This game has a lot of promise. I appreciate the attempts to create something new, although it builds upon the technology/lessons of other great games. I've been waiting for the next GREAT game since Bioshock. I hope Dishonored creates its own successful ambiance - and therefore commercial viability.
Doom 3 is the kind of game I want to play, but the constantly spawning enemies always got really annoying. It stopped being scary. Instead the spawning enemies would become so predictable, I would walk backwards into a room and back into a corner since I knew enemies would appear in all the nooks and crannies. I would much rather play a faster-paced Doom that isn't going for the horror element.
The fact that this game has people from the original Deus Ex and World in Conflict has me extremely excited. For people that haven't played those games, Deus Ex still holds up to me as the best story in any game ever made. World in Conflict was an amazing RTS that is still worth checking out today.
When gamers solve a mission in a way the developers didn't think of, that's when you know you have a great game (like in Deus Ex). I iz gonna love playing dis(honored).
@Hurvl I remember that in Arx Fatalis I could finish the game by killing everybody. but exploring was much more fun.
hope it'll have boatloads of achievements on steam so it will give me a reasons to go in specific routes (i want to get an achievement on not killing any one in certain missions, or kill everyone in certain missions, and give me a feeling of success when i make some mission in a unique extremely hard route instead of an easy one)
@ShadowRun02 Lol, you need an achievement to feel a sense of achievement? For me, it's enough that *I* know that I have succeeded to do a mission in a certain way.

aaaand... yeah, how strange is that? i need some1 (something in this case) to tell me i have achieved something to get a sense of achievement
@ShadowRun02 That's sad IMO :P, but to each his own. I've been gaming since 1997 and can remember a long time before achievements got here. The inventors of achievements really struck gold when it comes to you and a lot of others I suspect. You're the ideal customer, needing their product features (achievements) to feel a sense of achievement.

I don't know if its because they're showing off the game and they don't want to die in the process, but this game looks a tiny bit too easy..

@chingchingbrown To a certain extent. Basically, if my Dad won't play it because of gore, then yes, I can't play. Fortunately, I know what I'm doing when it comes to modding, and I can almost guarantee you I can make a mod that removes the gore as long as I can open the file that holds the settings.
@dkdk999 My parents understand that the ESRB system is a suggestion, so they do their own research. My library consists of mostly M rated games actually.
@Neo_Sarevok It's not really. Most likely, I can appeal to a forum and ask for the files for the files that control blood and gore, then modify the textures and programming(not so sure about programming though) that control the blood, then post it back on the forum and have someone test it for me. Someone will have already made it by then anyways.
@Colekern So you're an underage modder with attentive parents who wont let you play violent games, but WILL let you mod them? You're also already "almost" guaranteeing you can edit out the blood for a game that is months away from release? Furthermore, to mod out the blood, you'd have to test whether it works: Does your father watch you over your shoulder during this testing phase?
I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest thing I've heard on Gamespot for a while. This is my thumbs down too.

@JMaster69 there is some, i watched the violent gameplay version on IGN to a part where someone got there head shot with a crowsbow and the other guy fell down to his death and splattered in pieces
@Colekern I haven't even seen any gore in this game, I think it's just blood
If they dont whats so funny about it? Better than the parents who let all their 10-13 year olds onto COD and GTA
Ah, Harvey Smith thinks he was the lead developer on the original Deus Ex. Unfortunately for him, it was Warren Spector who was the real lead developer on the classic Deus Ex. Smith was the lead on Invisible War - the abomination.
@DrBob27 He said Lead Designer, not Developer, which is true. Also Invisible War was bad for all kinds of reasons, mostly time constraints and poor decisions based on QAs with bad testers, but it had potential to be good.
@dapperbandit Invisible War was bad because it tried too hard to pander to a broader and more casual audience, and tried to make the Xbox-optimised UI work on the PC.
@dapperbandit But it was dumbed down too much, Harvey Smith said so himself; every inventory item now takes up only one slot and you have a smaller (and stupider) inventory, augmentations are now "Biomods" and they aren't permanent changes you make, smaller levels so that it could run well on Xbox and so on. I don't think it's a buzzphrase, I think it's the truth. I didn't imply that there were QTEs or gun scopes - you're simply trying to exaggerate the brief points I made. The game had pretty stupid AI, though not as stupid as Deus Ex 1's.
@DrBob27 I get really sick and tired of this "dumbed down broader casual audience" crap. Its not an argument its just a string of buzzwords. You make it sound like every ten seconds there was a QTE and the whole thing was explosions and ACOG scopes. The things they really changed for the game was shaking up the way Augs are fitted and the removal of skills, placing everything inside one interface (which worked differently on PC). The key elements of the gameplay were still there, just with a weaker story, better AI and the changes I mentioned above.
