Oh god. On one side of this argument we have the haters who are angry all the time, with possibly good reason, and on the other hand we have the apologists who bring up the entitlement argument and actually feel they might be at fault rather than the games?

Lets be honest now. Good games don't garner the same kind of hate these games do. Dark Souls gets a lot of love for example.

Why should people just sit and take it when publishers seem hell bent of stepping over all the old fans of the games they published to try and get a quick buck? Especially when it nearly always fails. There's nothing wrong with trying to appeal to a wider audience, as that implies that a game would have something many people would enjoy, but gutting what made people like the old games is NOT the way to go about it.

This title garnered an insane amount of hate before it was even out, before anyone knew if it was good or not.

    Which it is.

    Forman,

This game probably is good for you, and that is great. But you are missing the point of this thread. The OP has played all of the DMC games, and beat them all on DMD mode. I would bet my life you did not do this...you might have played previous DMC games but did you ever beat any of them on DMD mode? Its ridiculously hard too do.

The OP says DMD is a cakewalk now, and thats why he is upset.

I played the previous DMC games on DMD mode too, and I know it gets absurdly difficult at certain points in the games...and this game fails to deliver that experience.

Hopefully now you understand the OP's position better.

Well, you could argue they had good cause.

First of all, Devil May Cry wasn't dead. The franchise still sold and people were expecting a sequel, however a reimaging was greeting with caution, but not hate.

Then they showed the new look of Donte, who at that point literally looked like Tameem. He wasn't Dante, he was Tameem's OC donut steel.

THEN they focused not on the gameplay, but on making Tamonte look as edgy as possible. Swearing swearing swearing galore. That scene where Donte punches out the bouncer to write on the list. Writing his name would have been cool, writing profanities in big letters like a 6 year old is not.

And then we're told a game with this kind of writing will be Shakesperian, hence my signiture.

And then and only then, when Ninja Theory have riled up as many old fans as they can, they release the game.. and its... actually a passable action game, but it's not a Devil May Cry game, and it shows. Fans don't want it, and new people aren't that interested.

Look at the Star Trek reimaging. Same characters, same universe, but a different story that still manages to stay true to the original. Now imagine if they made it with the same characters, but made them act completely differently and you have DmC.

It's hilarious because to me I have no problem with the new Dante. It's the combat and gameplay mechanics I don't welcome.

Like I said, the new Dante represents a bit of played out rebel but I actually enjoy the plot devices and story and the way the characters come together.

The action is fun even! But it's too much of a hack&slash for my taste. Yes, I know the harder difficulties add up but the new style system doesn't actually promote me to switch up my attacks. You make the choice, look cool, or efficiently kill. This game doesn't force you to do both with the style system like the previous ones.

Also, whoever thought APM was attacks per minute, APM is actions per minute, and it has been significantly higher in the other DMCs. 3 probably had the highest APM by kick cancelling and using special techniques.

I beat DMC3 on DMD and got partway through DMC1 on DMD.

Yeah this is easier but it's still an immensely fun game. Difficulty has never been a synonym for quality. The old DMCs were great because of their mechanics and components. Difficulty was just a side effect of that.

This. I feel ya man. I read GameFAQs forums quite often and this past year has just been absolutely saddening as a gamer. So much whining and entitlement...its been rampant. Just go look at the Metacritic user scores for any sequel released this year. People are calling these games complete and utter trash. I've played all the "terrible" games such as ME3, Diablo 3, DmC, Fifa 13, NFS, etc. While these games might have fallen short of my expectations (who is to say I'm not the one to blame...), they are certainly not 2/10, 3/10, or 4/10 games as the reviews would point to.

I sometimes wonder why people still look at gaming as a child's hobby and then I see the incessant whining, entitlement, and lack of rational thought that is pervasive on this and other gaming sites....and then it becomes pretty obvious to me.

If you're using the word "entitled" to bash people, you're part of the problem.

Anyhow, it really is sad, but not unexpected, that an apparently pretty good game is getting s*** on because of Capcom/Ninja Theory's disrespect for the original fans (not sure whose idea it was). When will Capcom learn?

How am I part of the problem? It's pretty obvious to just about anyone that isn't a huge fanboy of certain game series that the sense of entitlement is through the roof.

When Will Capcom learn? Learn what? They gave the DmC to Ninja Theory who in turn put out a critically well-received game with solid gameplay and the like. So Dante changes his hair and has a slight attitude adjustment and all of a sudden NT/Capcom is "disrespecting" their playerbase because of some cosmetic changes?

Don't say I'm part of the problem and in the same post say, "Capcom needs to learn" with regards to something that has NO overall effect on the game. You're "entitled" if you think the game has to adhere to 100% of your expectations or else you consider the game a "failure". That's just pathetic.

See people keep debating these problems I don't care about at all, I don't give two damns about Dante's cosmetic changes or his character.

It's NinjaTheory gameplay that bothers me. The games fun, but it's basically Ninja Gaiden spliced with some DMC combos. They removed key combat mechanics that made the game stand out as DMC.

In DMC 3 I used cancelling and "just guard" and single frame counters and ridiculous things like that. In DMC5 (I don't give a **** if you call it "DMC 1 the reboot." It's the fifth major installation.) there's less twitch skill, less actions per minute, less epic time and overall less urgency etc.

For the record capcom hired Ninja Theory and told them to make a reboot of Devil May Cry and told them to take it in a new direction. NT previous games are heavenly sword and enslaved. This game plays like an evolved heavenly sword. I understand this new dmc does not have canceling or high apm. I can also see how it is dumbed down combat from dmc3, but then this was done on purpose. Anyways my point is this game was purposefully made to be different and it is. Capcom didnt want to make another dmc so they gave it to somebody else. The result is a great action game and pretty much every critic agrees. Ps before you say all critics get paid off y would RE6 get such low scores when it is far more popular?

I haven't played DMC yet, but I have it downloading as we speak. I played the demo on PS3 and thought it was awesome, and I've been a fan since the original. Granted I never beat any of the previous ones in Dante Must Die, so that may be why the lack of difficulty doesn't upset me. I do strongly agree with you on RE, though. Never has a series so broken my heart. My distaste for newer RE games stems from me being a fan of the survival horror genre. RE5 was the nail in the RE coffin for me. I actually liked 4 because I thought they were just trying something new (like they did with Dead Aim and such), but I'd have been angry back then if I had known that they were switching over to 3rd person shooter permanently.

    At TC,

thanks for telling us your opinion. I played DMC3 on DMD mode and I loved it. I was disappointed with DMC4, and because of that I waited to hear what others say about DMC5 before I spend a dime on it. What you say has convinced me that I made a good call with not buying the game. I know you are getting hate for what you said, but it does help those of us who were hardcore DMC players who LOVED the really hard challenge of the game. Without that challenge, yes DMC would suck. I dont care what they do to Dante...they can make him a woman for all I care, but the game play is where its at.

At everyone else/ all the people bashing on the TC,

Shut the heck up!! Just because he gave his honest opinion it doesn mean he is a hater. If anything, he is a lover because he knows what the DMC games stood for once, and now that is gone. You guys clearly dont get this fact..

He is a hater. The rhetoric is the difference between a hater and a rational critic. Someone who's being rational would say "I didn't like this game because...and I hope with the next game they'll implement..."

TC is just kicking and screaming about how Capcom killed the Devil May Cry series because the game wasn't exactly like DMC 3-4.

I personally like this game better than DMC 3 and 4. Those games were, like Ninja Gaiden, just high speed twitch action games that you could beat if you mastered a few optimized patterns. At least DmC encourages variety in your approach and allows for it.

Does this guy even read? I wrote the flaws with the game and why I found it to be a betrayal to the Devil May Cry series.

Furthermore, I say I like the game... not "I didn't like this game"... Like I said but no one on this board can read, DmC isn't a bad game...
