DmC: Devil May Cry User Review
I liked this, yeah... i did, old Dante is missed but this game stands firmly on its own merits and a good start to 2013.

Ok Fanboys... Lets get this out of the way, I LIKED THIS GAME! now i promise to not make fun of the whining if you promise to treat my review fairly, Good? Good. Ninja Theory, they can't seem to catch a break can they but i do like they're interpretation of game design, its unique, stylish with great story elements and in my eyes any studio putting out AAA content that has the balls to inteprit something established with a different look and feel in the face of constant defiance is a winner in my book. That being said this does somewhat fall short of the pedigree set there from DMC 3/ DMC 4 but matches and (in my opinion) super-seeds the other games within this franchise.
GamePlay: Is somewhat subdued from series past, i wouldn't use the term dumbed down as its still not a cake walk to get through the game (bosses not included), Ninja Theory treated this iteration of the franchise with alot of respect even though that tasteless joke near the beginning of the game was unwarranted and slightly foolish (DMC fans know what im talking about) they still put across a good game which is more than i can say for Ninja Gaiden 3 "re-imagining" (Yuck) anyway... Yes its been withheld abit but at its core its still devil may cry which honestly is the best i could hope for from a different studio taking on this franchise.
Visuals/Graphics: Hair, Hair, Hair... yeah i really didn't care (until that in game joke was made shame on you Ninja Theory) but apart from that DMC to me has never looked better, very solid level design, art direction and style, its not what we've come to know but it's not shameful either, honestly it's dare i say cool.
Story: This is where i think Ninja Theory shines, they have made sense of a DMC game, DMC of old, they've never made sense to me as much as i've liked them, they always seemed random and all over the place. Story, plot, characters everything was random and chaotic, which i guess is what some people liked but i like the fact that the story here follows a path that can relate from the beginning to the end. Yes New Dante is a dick but honestly with his upbringing, couldn't you understand how he turned out to be that way? if i was raised in world where i was constantly being dragged into limbo with countless demons trying to kill me, not knowing whats real and the apparent abandonment of family and friends yeah i'd probably be a dick too, Vergil is a solid character here as well and this is not a replacement but a good alternate world to the series.
In closing this is a good start to an alternate world to a solid franchise, i don't think this is made in anyway to replace the devil you know (perhaps annualize it) but is a great game on its' own merits and brave move by capcom and ninja theory, it will never replace the old dante for me but i am excited to see where this goes.

DMC may have a new coat of paint but this Devil May Cry reboot is far from a disappointment.
