    I always thought the hell section was just deep inside mars. Because you physically walk to such a place from the mars base to fight the last boss.

    Interesting idea, but they've made it clear Hell was indeed a different dimension. I think maybe the Hell section you pass through on the way to the boss is because of Hell "growing" on Mars. Or maybe that area was there since the Martian civilization.
