Dota 2 is one of the biggest things in PC gaming and eSports, but the learning curve is notoriously steep and unforgiving. Join DotA veteran Zorine as she teaches Ed the ropes from the very beginning. Learn with us! (So you can destroy us later).
yo edmond tran, love wat u're doing, keep it up.the community needs stuff like dis, ignore the retards.if u ever on steam i would love to help u out and play some games with u.been playing dota since 2004,steam id is infinit3_dant3,wouldnt mind being in future videos either.peace,gg,gj and wp.
For people who haven't had much experience in MOBA. Should just either pre-order SMITE and play that beta or wait until launch because personally SMITE is a easy MOBA to pick up and it is amazing.
Whether I play this or not depends on the UI. LOL has some really slick UI in my opinion... and DOTA 2 from what I see in this video does not. The items list looks clunky and confusing.
ah B) i havent played dota in about a year and a half. but i can proudly say i was playing since before frozen throne. Its really awesome to see how much its grown over the years.
@Epicurus-Reborn dis would be a gud time to make a come back old-timer,been playing since 2003
This is a good video altho if you are really going to play any MOBA you should get ready to do some reading.
with all this hate, soon enough no one will be doing anything new for the community.
Look up "Decorum", try to show some and point a problem without sounding like the
retarded, drooling childish herd too many people make us out to be.
Why most ppl are annoyed by this video......It ddnt have enough info in it ?? of course it ddnt....its still the 1st episode....and they did show the very first basics that most new player wont get by themsels when they start playing........these diraies wont probabley make you an expert but that doesnt mean they are not informative
Correction: When you put a point into stats from leveling up, it adds 2 points to each attribute (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence), not 1.
Seriously, this chick is wrong sooooo many times, if you're gonna do a video like this, at least get someone who knows what they're talking about.
@DarknessClown You're wrong in so many ways. First she is teaching a guy (or everyone) who never played those kinda of games, so the strategy is simpler so that many can dive on that and have a better learning curve than otherwise not (just my thinking at least), so later you can focus on more advanced stuff. Second, as i see it shes a veteran and probably knows a lot more than she is talking about that she didn't think is for the crowd to follow (because again, it is a beginner video), and what are you? Whatever. Didn't see the video yet but this post troubled me a little, too many e-peens going.
@viramundo Have you actually played the game? Shes not horrible, but not good either. Hope she gives him a support when he plays a real match. She doesnt even know how to use all of the interface... I would suggest http://www.purgegamers.com/learn-dota
for beginners.
@GladyouCame @DarknessClownshe says in the 1st 30 seconeds, shes still playing dota 1, and hasnt started playing dota 2 in tournaments yet. This game is in beta, and the video is for people who have never played ever. Cut her some slack.
@GladyouCame I don't know why you're pointing the unfamiliarity with the interface as a sign of not being a good player/mentor. Do note that many people started playing on WC3 Dota 1 and it had a slightly different interface, lacking many elements that were added on Dota 2. So far, she's actually shown a great sense of how the game works and how to play it.
thank you for this...there are more people out there who would get help from this than you imagine... Good Going..!
I do not understand why people cannot simply like both games.Personally, I started out with the original DOTA on WC3, then went on to LoL, and am now playing both.
DOTA2 fans vs LoL fans flame war listed below and above. Before I get an earful, I like DOTA2 and LoL. I'm still learning DOTA2 and this video help explains some of the things going on.
FINALLY, Dota 2 gets the coverage it deserves! It does have a HUGE learning curve, but when ur smaking up 5-spell combos with invoker, or pulling insane hooks with pudge, its all worth it.. trust me ;)
She looks like a very smart and positive girl. I am looking forward more details for the next episode.
The only thing I don't like about this game is the some of the character's art design. Seriously...
Make sure to cover; wards and runes and a bottle....denying towers (towers have hp), creep blocking...the chicken, donkey or whatever you wanna call it, it can be killed for gold, it can fly but it's not Superman...ROSHAN, yeah this diary series will be mighty long. Dota's learning curve is way too steep and when you die you lose gold, and when you stay alive long and die you lose a shit ton of gold, buy often!
I've played DOTA, LOL, and DOTA 2. DOTA 2 isn't for everyone the same way a game like Dark Souls isn't for everyone. There's a high learning curve and a lot of punishment you have to go through before you're received as a decent player.People will yell at you when make mistakes. A single player can throw a game. A few mistakes can change the outcome of a game. A single player can carry a game (FV). I've been playing the DOTA 2 beta for awhile now. I'm really looking forward to legacy DOTA and curious LOL players joining DOTA 2. Bring it!
I don't understand why people are commenting on this saying Ed is terrible. Its obvious its his first playthrough, did you really expect him to be at an advanced level within the first hour? If it pains you so much as a more experienced player to watch this tutorial go spectate a pro game. Nice job Zorine & Ed, be cool if you continue this dairy. & yeah Aus Asians are definitely attractive.
oh and let's not forget the fact that DOTA2 uses so much from its WC3 days that you can play WC3's version and not miss much other than the unique models, lol.
Except that:
1) Dota 2 has more functionality than Dota 1 which was restricted too heavily from its WC3 engine. Dota 2 is a standalone game, with a proper client, lobbies, matchmaking, customisation options, tons of settings options, has a more powerful engine etc... Dota 1 doesn't. Dota 1 is simply an outdated map from WC3 - itself an outdated and 'ancient' engine.
2) LoL's models are unique? Rofl.... that's a first... you mean how every champion blatantly has some mesh of the same skills and is a random humanoid character with a different weapon and some crappy lore attached to them?
LoL's models are just piss ugly and bad in quality compared to even Heroes of Newerth's. As a game, Dota 2 > LoL. I couldn't care less about new content in LoL because it's too predictable. New and exciting (but generic) champs that don't get played competitively, skins!!! and shitty balance. Nice.
@Dolmar9191 dude, squash the beef,LOL and dota had the same designer before icefrog.i play both for different reasons.the community is more fragile than u thing n all dis beef on tends to slow the progress of the community as a whole
Oh im sorry LOL is made by the makers of DotA Allstars ya know the game DOTA 2 is a clone of? So if anybody is stealing anything its' DOTA 2. DoTA is very boring and not very exciting and probably wont do that well.... Why Valve is spending so much money on DOTA 2 and not on their own IP is amazing especially seeing how LOL stomped HoN.
@megakick The makers of Dota Allstars were not Guinsoo and Pendragon fyi. They are the only 2 Rioters that had anything to do with Dota a long time ago (pre-2005). Guinsoo made some stuff and added some basic items to the game as well a dozen or so heroes but the majority of the content he added was taken directly from other variants of the Dota map. As for Pendragon... he's just some fatass who managed Dota-Allstars.com and promised to archive it but ultimately ended up not doing so.
Valve has both Eul (the original creator of Dota) and Icefrog (the current and longest serving developer). Valve has more right to Dota than those scumbags at Riot who made LoL to profit out of Dota's popularity. LoL is popular... whoopdeedoo it's an easier to pick up casual version of Dota that has been free to play and accessible since 2009. Dota 2 is still in beta.
Also... Riot only invested $100,000 into Season 1... why would they all of a sudden throw in $5,000,000 into Seas 2? Oh I dunno... they announced that ONE WEEK after Gamescom where Dota 2 was unveiled. Also... the prize pool is not $5M because $2-3M of those go towards paying sponsors and organisers.
@megakick : As playing dota for years and then switching to LoL to see what the fuss is all about. Take some advice, don't judge unless you have played Dota and as in given it a month of playing. I have played LoL for years side by side with dota 1, and even have a lvl30 account in ladder, and trust me Dota IS the better game. FOR ALL LoL players: Stop flaming if you haven not sincerely tried Dota, and by that I mean played it for atleast 3 months... Just cause ur a noob in the game doesn't mean the game suck. Period.
@megakick Dota 2 has an average of 4500 games being played worldwide @ any time during any day, sometimes up to 6000!!! And Dota 2 is only a beta version, wait till the official game is released! U think it's not gonna do well BUT you're already wrong..rofl!!!
@megakick LOL is where shitty noob low-skilled dota players retire too. THe creator of LOL left Dota when it was still an unbalanced game and not being played competitively. Icefrog is the one who made DotA the popular game it is today.
@Dolmar9191 where did I mention ANYTHING about LoL in the comment you replied to? lol way to jump the gun.
DOTA2 blows chunks. it's way too elitist for casual gamers to join and learn the game, while LoL is much more user friendly. yes both have elitist a__holes, but DOTA2 WAY worse with the guys who like the smell of their own farts so much that they play game with their heads up their own a__es.
Welcome to the internet! Any team game out there will always have a bunch of rotten apples that spoil the bunch. There will always be tensions between players when especially it's a game where one bad team member can effectively drag the entire team down.
What I suggest is to find some friends to play with. If not, there's always a mute button.
Just to clarify, i dont say it as in "League of Legends its the best MOBA there is!" although it sure is the most "evolved" form of MOBA... and, its free... and you cant pay to win... and its not in beta with restricted access...
@Xpyder LoL... evolved... in the same sentence??? xD
Speaking of no restricted access... don't you realise how many hundreds of thousands of IP you need to unlock stuff?
@Dolmar9191 Yes, EVOLVED(in caps now), it was not made by a bunch of random guys just "for fun" and "non profit"(like dota and consequently, dota 2) and it does something that Dota 2 and HoN(the most proeminent mobas aside from LOL that is currently the most played game in the world, also with the highest prize pool in the history of e-gaming in 2012) that something are the masteries, runes and summoner spells and a matchmaking that takes only seconds...
@Xpyder Are you kidding me? Dota 2 was not MADE FOR FUN. It was made to carry on Dota's legacy and provide its players with an actual central client with which to play on throwing in useful features and settings/customisation options here and there.
LoL was made to profit off of the Dota formula's popularity. Riot knew that if they could take Dota and water it down to the most basic elements > add in gimmicky and arbitrary additions like runes/masteries/unlocking of characters/skins, that they would draw in a mass horde of newbs and frustrated Dota players at will. Ultimately this is also what draws many Dota players away from LoL. Its fun is more arcade-like whereas Dota's fun lies in its depth and seemingly endless variety compared to LoL.
Anyone can take a game and break it down to be easier to pick up. It's not that hard. Look at Halo or Call of Duty compared to Counter Strike.
@Dolmar9191 you need at least 450 in game currency to unlock a champ... that's gained in a few games
@pyrojazz True but 1/2 of all the characters are 6300 IP. You still need hundreds of thousands of IP (over 1000 games) to unlock the champs (not to mention runes).
I'd say: Go play League of Legends before you decide to "Hook up" on any other MOBA, else you might get addicted to the "wrong" game...
@Xpyder So you're implying that LoL is the only right game out there? It's a mediocre game with such a bad production quality.
@Dolmar9191 Nope, i didnt say that, i say "play it before you make up your mind" and the reason it might look like it has a "bad production quality" is that it was made to run in any type of pc, its also a 4 years old game... but, its being overhauled lately and its looking much much better...
by they way, i thought the same thing when i played it for the first time(only about 5 games), i only got "hooked" when i played it for the second time with my friends...
@Xpyder Dota 2 runs on the Source engine... ever heard of it? Once Dota 2 is fully operational the Source engine will allow the game to run on virtually most operating systems and PCs.
@Dolmar9191 Wth is your problem? LoL is one of the more accessible mobas out there. It lets you learn moba mechanics without nearly as much intimidation and confusion as DOTA2.
@pyrojazz The way he worded it seemed to sum up "Don't play Dota 2! Play LoL instead!" How exactly does one get addicted to the WRONG game? Who's to tell you what game is right and wrong for you?
@pyrojazz FACT! the more accessible moba, by far! buy i would say it is less confusing at first... since the champs in general are more unique than dota's...
