I think there should be another Blade Class. Single One Handed Sword Class. Maybe have a mixture of skill trees from Rogue and Warrior. I use one handed, no shield anytime I can in RPGs and I love this series but it's the one thing that to is missing.

Also I can't seem to choose between Warrior (2 hd) or Archer Rogue. I like the Melee for the Archer and it has distance attacks but I like close combat. With the archer I get a Robin Hood/Arrow feel but then it's an archer and those to me might not be Champions of Anywhere but the woods and in shadows...I dunno. But I wish they had a "Blader" or "Swordsmen" Class. This would make me smile.

Go Sword and Shield, but don't equip a shield...

In Dragon Age 2 it gives you a shield automatically. If you unequipped your shield you get a wooden round one as a default. So that might have worked in Origins but not part 2. Also you lose out on skills, they need a skill set for Single Swordsmen.

I agree but I think they need more classes. The next game should have Templar , Assassin and Blood Mage as fully fleshed out classes IMO. Next to Warrior Rogue and Mage. Just to add variety even if it's like a mirror they could at least try.

I've never tried that before, so it seems you taught me something.

If we're talking about adding more Class Styles? Non Magic Staff, like a Little John from Robin Hood or a Gambit from XMen. Maybe give that a Martial Arts base and add in the kicks and goodness. I would totally dance a chicken happy dance if I can be a Quinari in a game, choose between Quin and Tal Vasha (spelling?) That'd be awesome! They throw spears, gimmie that!

They should have allowed you to equip whatever weapon you want regardless of class and not pigeon hole you into certain weapons/classes.

I wanted a dual wielding Warrior but the only you can DW in DA2 is by being a Rogue.

I wanted a dual wielding mage also. Screw that darn staff crap. Short swords all day!

The actual classes should just be mage or mundane. What you specialize in is determined by where you spend your skill points. You can have a sneaky assassin type mage or a dirty fighter warrior. Freedom people. Freedom.

I agree with all of that. I think it should be more open classes. If you want to use a staff for Magic or for Melee, you should have the option to do so. I use Dual Weapon Warrior in DAO and loved it. It just worked well but the fighting system in DA2 is just better so I'd have liked to have the option.

I like to think the reason they haven't included the option for single-wielding 1h weapons is because Hawke and his/her companions are actually competent fighters.

But seriously, you've got two hands. If you're only doing something with one of them, you'll lose to someone who's using both. 1H sword is a terrible weapon choice.

If someone's using a 2H weapon, their reach advantage can effectively stop you from fighting, and the extra weight behind their blows means you'll struggle to block any of their hits. And if they know what they're doing, they won't lose any speed doing so.

If someone's dual-wielding, they suddenly have twice as many options as you do. Defend and attack at the same time, or simply attack twice as fast as you can.

If someone's sword-and-boarding, have fun getting a single hit on them. It's effectively a more defensive dual wield.

Basically, in an actual combat situation, if you have an extra hand free you're doing it wrong. I consider Hawke and Aveline sensible for picking a rubbish shield of the floor if you don't give them a decent one, similar to how Isabella and Rogue!Hawke pick up a spare kitchen knife if you don't give them an off-hand.

I wouldn't mind seeing polearms in at some point, though. Spears are cool.

Like with the Bow, you'd have to include some fists flying or maybe an elbow being thrown with a 1 Handed Sword Class. It's a Weapons class that has been in so many RPGs before and in Movies and other forms of entertainment involving weapons of this kind. Maybe it has some negatives but doesn't every weapon class? It's not a useless choice at all, if I can slap you out of nowhere during a fight with weapons, or I launch myself at you after a push of strength and crack you with an elbow using of course that "Free" and useless hand. Wouldn't that open things up to a variety of things for me to do in connection to that? With Spears, in reality...Doorways could make for troubling times. Those giant 2 Handed swords take too long to swing around if not zip lined like in DA2. Arguments could be made for every weapon choice.
