Not even half as good as the first one, but still an enjoyable game in its own right.
Never made it far during my second playthrough though, while I played through DAO a lot.
Why don't you try to rent it first to see for yourself?

Get all the latest patches and all the DLC and you'll have a pretty good time. DA:O is definitely better of the two but please don't disregard it outright. It has a good story and good characters, it's just lacking in a few gameplay areas. Give it a try.

Gameplay is better in this game by a light year. Story goes to origins by a light year. If you want story, origins is your game. If you want a fun and fast paced game, this is your game. I've played through both games multiple times and they both have their strong points.

Yes. Not only is Dragon Age II good but it's also better than Origins.

Can't tell if you're trolling or being serious. Hopefully it's the former.

This answer is right on so many levels.
I agree.

I think it's better than Origins; but then I didn't think Origins lived up to the greatness of Baldur's Gate II either, so there.

While the game is not bad, it does not live up to the expectations of those who loved the first one.
DA:Origins was a unique RPG that mixed Story, strategy, and exploration. And it did it very well, the combat takes it back to the old school style, a risky move in todays gaming world, but they pulled it off. The different origin story lines made the player feel like each playthrough felt unique, and wanted you to explore each one. The combat fell behind all the other things, and it does leave the gamer wanting more then just a Tactical RPG experience. I found myself wishing I could sling spells like a mad wizard, or go in a berzerker rage and flail about while dual weilding. This game is all about the story, and the combat can be fun, but for the most part you will just use the same skill as it has lower cool down, and quicker animation.
DA2 was a rushed title. Gone are the days of exploring the vast counrty sides, delving into secret caves, discovering a lost tomb that had not been disturbed for centuries. This game is aimed at the gamers who like action games. The story is not bad, but it is not really great either. The characters are a bit stale, and generic at times, but they do have their moments and can offer a bit of humor when you assemble a team that does not like each other.
The combat is where the game shines. You actually fee like you are in command of your character, the combat is fast and satisfying. No longer are you forced to watch a static character preform for you. The Rogue feels like a rogue in this game, not a warrior with lower HP, and weaker armor rating. The mages are no longer forced to run when a mod closes in.
The reason DA2 gets so much heat is because we were all still riding the high we were on with DA:Origins. The so called hardcore gamers feel like every game needs to be a 80+ hour experience. DA2 offered something you rarely see in RPGS it gives the casual, or non RPG lover who does not have the time to invest in a heavy RPG a chance to explore a world and have some fun, without the 1 hour prologue.
No game will ever appeal to everyone, but Dragon Age did something no other franchise could do, make a game for every type of gamer.
DAO and DA2 both offer something for a different gamer, that is what I truely appreciate about these games. The ones who did not like the first one liked the pace and action of the second one. Those who loved the first one, found the second one to lack the compelling story that drove the first one.
It will keep you entertained if you look at it as a game. If you look at it like it was suppose to be better the DAO, or some giant RPG then you will find flaws. I had the pleasure of looking at this game from both sides of the mirror, and I for one, choose to look at it as a decent game for those who wish to have an action RPG experience without all the RPG overload.
For $10 I say it is now or never.
Hope someone finds this post useful.
