I've been trying to find this out, but there doesn't seem to be any aswers on the board. I've been running through the class builds, and I wanted to know this: if I decide I want to play as a female mage again, is that going to overwrite my original female mage's file? I didn't create an early game save for either her or my M! Warrior, but I like how they looked and don't want to have to go through two tons of trouble in order to recreate them as precisely as possible. Much thanks to whoever can answer this for me.

Let me try to understand:
You want to replay the game with one of your already created characters, but still maintain the save for your finished play-through?
You will only be able to play this character again from your earliest save. There is no way you will be able to start from the beginning without building a new female mage character.
Keeping a save for your original play-through is easy enough. Just load your Post-campaign save and make a new save at Hawke's mansion or the Black Emporium. DO NOT OVERWRITE THIS SAVE! Make a back up of this save just in case you accidentally overwrite it.
Then load your earliest save for the character and replay the game. This will eventually overwrite any of the major automatic saves for your original play-through and generate a new Post-campaign save.

Erm, no. That wasn't what I was asking.
For example: My original f!Mage is a completed playthrough, but I might want to play as an f!Mage again soon. Will the new f!Mage overwrite the original one since they're both f!Mages, or would she have a completely new file? I'm trying to find that out so that if it does overwrite, I can try to make the new one look as much like the original as possible, since I really liked the way she turned out.

Oh. OK. You have a limit of ten character creations. They can
all be female mages, if that's what you want. (I myself have several female rogues.)
Just start a new game. You'll have to do your best to recreate the look of the character. And you probably should choose a different first name, to keep them straight.
