Get a closer look at how the corporations and equipment of of EVE Online play into CCP's upcoming shooter.
There's a few misconceptions going about regarding Dust 514. I agree it needs a little more work, but it's a beta, and a proper beta not a demo that is tagged as a beta.
Going to the forums will help figuring out what is going on, and I recommend this thread for starters:

So I have been playing quite a bit of this and since I have also been playing Planetside 2 for about 6 months, I have to make some comparisons. They are extremely similar games with both games having a good deal of differences and some parts of each I like more than in the other (if that makes sense lol). The thing that will probably see me finish my time in PS2 over the next 6 months, but probably never play Dust514 at launch, is simply that the EVE micro incremental advancement model is too painful in a shooter. Progression and unlocks are slow enough in PS2 without CCP's speciality which is progression in steps so tiny and so almost imperceptible, its torture. Great game, great idea, love the link to EVE, but ultimately MMOFPS is about pace. Finally the instanced nature of Dust pretty much invalidates the size of the EVE universe, which is a shame.
Don't commpare Planetside 2 vs Dust 514. Planetside 2 made by SOE (sony online entertaiment) so if not sony none of us can play Planetside 2 on pc. =D And sony helps CCP with Dust 514. So relax it will be better graphics and bugs will be fixed in time. Just wait and enjoy changes of the game it self!
@OpenWodka It would be virtually impossible to discuss Dust 514 without mentioning PS2. I am playing both and the similarities are well beyond the obvious. I played EVE for many years and there is no shame in the comparison as both Planetside and EVE are great franchises. But comparisons are now valid.
i wish he would have shown more of the gameplay the nanohives, orbital strikes , dropship gameplay if i didn't play the game for 4 months already and he was trying to sell it i wouldn't want to buy it or even download it he should of came harder than he did but this is a really good game and the possibilities are ridiculous by the end of this quarter i can guarantee other companies will be playing follow the leader
this is a MMORPG FPS that is free to play this game will only get better in the graphics and gameplay as the updates roll in this game will take up alot of people from other severs across the fps console wars
Being an Eve player I was pretty excited about this game. Have to admit the graphics look terrible 0_o.
@Lone_Warrior_66 Great concept and I hope it works out but you are right they look like PS2 graphics.
@screaamshield it is not just that Sony was willing to work with them and change their online sturcture to get the game to work and M$ wasn't and the reason why it is not on pc because ccp wanted to hit a different market with this game CCP has fully explained all of this before and you would have known this if you actually been following the game since it was a announce couple of years ago and not just here there are allot of info about this game that this site doesn't post about it
I have been playing EVE for some time now and know that as far as games go it is the most captivating one I have ever played. The depth to it is unbeliveable and the amount of people that essentially keep the vast economy growing is a testament to what few MMO's have had the balls to do. They gave it to the hands of the people freely (as in freedom to play anyway you want, not free to play) and unleashed millions of possibilities. They built upon that foundation little by little until it became what it is today which to me is the only game for true Hardcore gamers there is. That being said, I don't see Dust standing alone. It is like another expansion to the EVE universe. Knowing the way CCP is, the team they have, and what they have done I don't for a second think that this DUST is a final product. The Die hard fans will find their way in and once you get bankrolled by one of my friends in EVE you will never go back to using default again. Also note that Dust is a very psychological shooter, you will have more than just a victory for winning. Your Corp heads can run their business any way they see fit. They could up your pay, throw in bonuses or special gear stocks without anyone else knowing. Begin brown nosing now! Lol
@TROYISGOOD " the only game for true Hardcore gamers there is."
Only MMO game maybe... I'll give ya that one.

@jessie82 Just b/c it's a shooter doesn't equal to it being "just like any other shooter". From the aspects that we were shown, it certainly isn't your generic shooter.
EDIT: And your logic that "you shoot someone" is quite simple minded. That's like saying Star Trek and Star Wars are exactly the same b/c they take place in space.
@Chewin3 Sadly in game play, its a little more like your average shooter than I would have liked. Your actions in game, your time alive and battle activity is remarkably similar to other online team shooters, even the likes of COD etc. Given the actual play experience closely resembles planetside 2 and given that PS2 does basically every aspect better including customisation and individuality. I have been finding it hard to stop playing PS2 to put more hours into Dust. That in itself is an indication of how I am personally finding the 2 games. Others may have different experiences.
Tried the beta, was actually pretty damn hyped to try it because of the idea of being able to help my friends who play EVE Online.
What I played was hands down one of the WORST FPS ever, the game kept on doing this annoying FPS skip which to my understanding hasn't been resolved, I waited several months for em to fix it and the shooting just feels very flimsy, there's no kick to the weapons.
Disappointment.
Sorry but Planetside 2 is better, actual open world MMO FPS, okay i admit it doesn't have the same lore and universe as EVE. But but still its open world, not just a limited map area and works simply like a CoD/BF match
@jessie82 @DarckArchon That i will, and also whats the problem if im making a difference between the 2 ?
Both Eve games do not pander to the people with attention deficit disorder. These games are for the strategists of old school gaming that didn't grow up on the brainless games of today. More thought goes into a single click on Eve Online and D514 than an entire match of BF and cod. Don't say it's a bad game because you can't sit down for 5 minutes without mashing a controller. Also, Eve online is one of the first games to be inducted to New York's Museum of modern art.
@genjuroT Yes the game hype would have you believe that this MMOFPS somehow bridges the gap between the twitch ADD crowd and the thoughtful strategists. While EVE itself has a good mix of both types of players, having played quite a bit of dust now, for maturity, teamwork, complexity, strategy etc etc, Id be playing BF2 Project Reality. Still......
Besides- it's free to play without pay to win. How can you go wrong with a free game? I've seen 1000x worse games that charged an arm and a leg...
I disagree. I'm 27, huge RPG fan, I still remember games that required a lot of devotion to finish them, so I'm no "newf%g", but EVE has just such a huge and boring learning curve that it kills all the fun, really.
I'm trying EVE right now again, but it's the same over and over again, just boring. I'm sure that when You know all the mechanics, rules etc. it's awesome and so much fun, I love all those stats, counting etc. as well, but the process of getting there is a killer.
Did he say, "billions and billions of combinations"? A person cannot count to 1 billion in a single lifetime...
@aryeec If you have played EVE and had the um, displeasure of coming across some of these Russian guys who have been playing since Beta, believe me they have billions of skills LOL
@aryeec yes In theory we can do that, but it will take months calculate by yourself if you want :D
LOL, BattleCod 5 the reach for halo 2 PS3 EXCLUSIVE... my trash has more playability.
I realize it's not done yet but, the graphics look worse than they did at E3 two years ago...
It's just another dropship scifi battlefield game linked to a dead MMO. I was expecting more. As I'm watching this I'm reminded of Starhawk (the huge sales flop).
Kind of glad to lose the desire to try yet another game.
@stailcookie EVE, a dead MMO?
Lol, bitch you make me laugh.
EVE is the ONLY MMO in the history of the genre to continuously grow, year on year for over a decade.
Do some research before you open your mouth.
@kez1304 @stailcookie Sure, sure, according to CCP. Yet the number of people actually logged in at any given time stays relatively static. Hmmm??? Explain that one CCP.
@majorvictory2 @stailcookie how many years has the sov map looked the same?
if you played the game many years ago in comparison to now, it might as well be dead.
Alright so, Eve Online is long running PC only space mmo. Dust 514 is a PS3 only Planetside 2ish style game that is connected to the Eve Online universe and server. Hrmm.
I'm trying to understand the logic but it's just not clicking. Maybe they plan on putting Eve on the ps3 down the road?
The logic is Sony pay a huge premium to companies that sign an exclusivity contract to their platform.
PC already has a lot of competition on the free MMOFPS market.
PS3 doesn't have any MMOFPS, let alone any FREE MMOFPS.
Lots of potential customers that have nothing to lose by giving it a try.
@2bitSmOkEy Eve isn't really a great game to port over. I'd say it's more likely to see Dust 514 on PC.
I kinda like it, still, it needs more polishing but the idea behind it its reaaaaaaaalllyyyy goood
It is in Beta still. People always confuse open beta to a released, polished and altogether finished product.
Let alone as this is an MMOFPS, the updates will be fast and frequent... Unlike two other hugely popular FPS games, that charge you every year for 12 new maps, some different skins and a couple of tweaked weapons. Let alone the DLC.
