- Feb 27, 2013 1:08 pm GMTAlthough I am planning on not playing it. I saw a partial list of the changes and averted my eyes as I wanted to be surprised. I have decided that I'll buy it in support but I'm going to wait for 8 so I can get a bigger rush of new things at once.
I just really hope 8 comes out fully localized with both language options. I know there are those that hate the idea of English being in these games anymore but I don't and my friends and I would really like to get maximum enjoyment out of the next installment.
Anyone else pretty much buy this game out of support?
It's been tough being a Koei fan as they've been struggling to stay relevant both in popularity outside of Japan but also in business practices with their unfortunate embracing of DLC.
What do you guys think? - Feb 27, 2013 1:12 pm GMTI'm gonna have to second the DLC bullcrap. And no localization really irks me because I love hearing all the unique VAs in English and getting immersed in their characters.

The Nexus is like a porn shop. You go in, get the goods, and then get out. -SilentS89I'd like ME 4 to be about a soldier in the Alliance called Commander Herding who goes on a galaxy wide man hunt for a villainous snake named Hasey Cudson, who is trying to bring back a race of sentient machines known EApers. who are responsible for destroying all sapient life in the galaxy every five years. In the end, you bring about a new renaissance throughout the universe by taking Cudson and throwing him in a meat grinder. The End. Fin. Happily Ever After.

Every character who was changed for this game will have an altered moveset (however slightly) for 8. You might as well play the game; it's extremely enjoyable and is packed with content that DW8 won't have.
Jin wins, btw. SOrry for spoilers, i couldn't help myself.

"A dike?! Oh no!!"
Honestly, the hamminess of the English voice actors fundamentally breaks any possible immersion this game could provide. Of all the arguments to spend thousands of dollars to retain voice acting, this has to be the worst one I've heard yet.

No one hates the idea of English voice over(well not enough people that it's a bad as you seem to make it) and what's wrong adding DLC to a game that is already chocked full of things to do, just so they can give more ****, while you enjoy the **** you have, while their give more their giving you more ****. This ain't a capcom game that is somewhat bare bones while all the fun stuff is held back for DLC, and this DLC reasonably priced. Granted their is a lot of it, but I don't blame them for wanting to keep giving their players more things to do so they can make more money.

That hamminess can tend really bring out the characters for some. I love a little ham in my acting, and Zhong Hui is the biggest example of over hammy acting. For the most part this is tame. You want ham? Watch something with Crispin Freeman, you know what, WATCH CRISPIN FREEMAN'S PERFORMANCES AS JEREMIAH GOTTWALD, and tell me that this series has hammy voice acting.

I still fail to see how some people automaticaly hate the game simply cause it has no english voice over. You come to this game for strategy and ability to conquer china your way,not to hear the same piece of line over and over again. Well unless your so pathetically needy that you require computer npc to tell you how cool you are.
And if anyone hates DLC then the question is why do you still play games? Almoust every game has one. - Feb 27, 2013 1:49 pm GMTsuksass posted...

What are you talking about? Why can't we hate having to pay more than the advertised retail price to own the full game? I'm not going to quit playing games just because it costs more. I just have to be a lot choosier with what games I do play.
Also I hate not having english VAs. I always miss the officer dialogue in fights now and I hate it. The characters have less roundness to them when they only speak during special events and outside of that are just shouting gibberish.
Hurts me strategically too as I often miss when my allies are in trouble or telling me they're going to do something that doesn't really help at all. Did that help you to see how at all? I hope so because it doesn't seem the out there to me.
English VA's need to be brought back. They really do. As far as DLC goes.. well there's no going back now...

Super rude.
Can we just avoid spoilers?

"I don't like it so no one possibly could." The English VAs since 4 have included some very successful personalities.
Not everyone looks at things from a "I like Japanese anime voices" perspective. Which, honestly, is the biggest reason people take issue with the voices... They've literally become used to hearing another language to a point where English sounds "odd" to them.
I know how it is because I got so used to KOF games being in Japanese that anything else was super weird to me... At first.
No one hates the idea of English voice over(well not enough people that it's a bad as you seem to make it) and what's wrong adding DLC to a game that is already chocked full of things to do, just so they can give more ****, while you enjoy the **** you have, while their give more their giving you more ****. I wish I can say that all the DLC was like that. Extra stuff to do. But having to acquire repeat content (old outfits etc.) as DLC suddenly when in the pre-DLC era they carried over is kind of frutrating.
And look at Warriors Orochi 3. Waiting for 6 months to get outfits and cosmetics (and not all of them) that were released in Japan in weeks. And once again losing all the previous content from Warriors Orochi 2/Z so it had to be downloaded rather than integrated. I'm all for having more to do and look forward to but not if the game is going to have to be a lesser experience up front because of it.
DW7 kind of showed the crux of the issue by holding so much content back so that when the PSN went down people just couldn't get things. By then they were done with the game. I'm all for new stages but I don't want a game with things obviously cut out from the start. At least let me buy it all up front.
See: Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper. If you guessed that they would have to wait for all that DLC to be "made" all over again you would be right. In the previous generation, old content like outfits and music were used to frontload the fun of the game. Now they keep getting "lost" and having to be rebuilt for DLC over time.
I mean what's the point of making the Wii players wait for all that completed content? I thought DLC was supposed to be things that weren't created yet? - Feb 27, 2013 1:50 pm GMTIf your such a good samaritan then why not to give the game to some needy people who will actually play?
Well, it's digital for one...
I still fail to see how some people automaticaly hate the game simply cause it has no english voice over.
I don't think it works exactly like that. More like some people would be less inclined to pay attention. I honestly don't run across a lot of people who say "Japanese? I hate it!" More like "Japanese? What the heck? Why is it in Japanese? Eh. Maybe I'll get it." And they don't. They don't have that perspective of "obviously it's from Japan so it's Japanese plus anime VA's are better!"
You come to this game for strategy and ability to conquer china your way,not to hear the same piece of line over and over again. Well unless your so pathetically needy that you require computer npc to tell you how cool you are.
Yep. You must be right. In fact, I think Dynasty Warriors was the first thing ever to have localized voices. Absolutely nothing in the world involves spoken language and they for sure don't have spoken Japanese in the Japanese releases. I mean, only losers like hearing spoken word. This is why all movies, games and television are all silent with text. This new phenomenon of people wanting to hear spoken word in their language is out of the blue silly.
But seriously it's no secret that people like hearing things characterized in their language.
And if anyone hates DLC then the question is why do you still play games? Almoust every game has one.
Why would someone be engaging in an activity that houses something they hate that once didn't house the thing they hate? Doesn't that answer itself?
Or have you only been playing video games since this generation. There are actually consoles that came before the Playstation 3 and X-Box 360 that didn't do these things. A person likely became a fan playing games back in those days and now hopes that some of these practices ceased or were dialed back. It's pretty simple.
I don't want this to turn into a "English Vs Japanese" discussion. I'm all for talking about being a Koei fan and what that entails/silly DLC practices, though.
Ever wonder why games are so littered with DLC yet we still get retail expansions as well? Seems like one of these isn't necessary... - Feb 27, 2013 2:16 pm GMTDark Symphony posted...

So your gripe is previously unlockable content being regarded as DLC...eh, I can't argue against that, you have point. Sure it sucks, but personally, when there is something I want, if I can get it, I'm not the type to just not go and buy it. The same thing happened with the Tales series and the Unlockable costumes. More recent games has regarded alternate costumes to dlc instead of being rewards for finishing sidequests. People were pissed. I still want those costumes and would get them if I could, but it does indeed suck. I could come up with a thousand reasons why companies do this and they would be valid as they have their reasons, but it still sucks.

- Feb 27, 2013 2:17 pm GMTI'd much rather hear Asian voice acting in a game with asian characters (even if it is Japanese language for chinese characters) than english. I'd actually prefer it if there was an option to hear chinese VAs in this game.
I wish I had fat wallets like TC to just throw around for games he'll never touch. I downloaded Shank 2 for $3 a month ago and still feel like I overpaid.

PSN ID: MoirNoir - Feb 27, 2013 2:37 pm GMTThe Japanese anime voices are actually a reason I hate the Jap VA. They are good, but I have heard them all a million times and they always do the exact same 10 character arch types that exist in anime. Everyone keeps saying their own name and every officer defeated quote is exactly the same. Bsides all that, I have been used to most of the voices since DW4, now all of a sudden I gotta hear Ichigo and Sasuke shouting: "Takesho Hutstota!" Japanese also doesn't fit for **** with Chinese characters, I can't believe people keep bringing that up. Next thing you will tell me that Dutch and French sound almost the same.
Koei has pretty much no "bad" DLC. The old DW3-6 costume packs were pretty cheap and you got all the weapon DLC free in improved form in Empires. Most of the stages seem to be in too and even if you didn't buy those, you didn't miss anything. This isn't Capcom.
I wouldn't let this game slide though Dark, you bought it and I'm sure you will play it. It's pretty easy to get past the voices. The new weapons are a blast, most of the great sound tracks are in and the Kessen/Dynasty Tactics features are really great. I'd never see buying this game as "doing my part." That's like going up **** creek without a paddle. There are almost no people who actually even know about this series. Koei does no effort to make this game known anywhere in the west. If I encounter someone who actually knows DW, it's like I am seeing water burning.
You'd have to buy around 200.000 copies of this game yourself to make some headway. Good luck. I'd suggest throwing your money in a nearby river next time.

It is a series based on a 1700~ year old historical record's novelization, so the story is known to everyone, the characters are known to everyone, and the events are known to everyone. So it can't be story spoilers.
The game involves pressing the square button sometimes, and mixing it up by sometimes pressing triangle, R1, or circle. So it can't be mechanical spoilers.

Yes english VO might have been a nice touch for thouse who like it. But it doesn't automaticaly makes the game worthless. Majority of thouse who complain about VO and saying that they won't play/buy it because of that seem to become a tad bit to selfcentered. You refuse to play, over an insignificant part of the game without trying out the rest of it.
I've been playing games since 1994. I've long ago realised that the times when we got games with as much cramed into them as possible are gone. Finished. Finito. Mostly I blame older generation of gamers who gave into this DLC crap back then. Now it's unstopable. Hoping for the old practices to come back is naive.
Neather is going anywhere. WoW would be prime example of that.

Empires doesn't even have a story and vanilla DW's story has been told 6 times now (the fighting game didn't seem to be that ROTK accurate). You'd have to pretty much go back in time and beat the crap out of Chen Shou if you don't want spoilers.
