Fable II User Review
- Difficulty:
- Easy
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Grows on you"
Story: The story begins with your character referred, to only as sparrow, who is living in the streets with his older sister. At the time the two are young children and are barely surviving in the streets. When a traveling merchant visits their town of Bowerstone. A mysterious woman named Theresa tell the children to buy a music box that they have seen for sale, the box will grant the owner one wish. The children buy the box and make their wish of being able to live in Castle Fairfax, the home of Lord Lucien. Later in the night the children are brought to meet Lucien, where he has them stand on a circle when a blue light emits from the floor. Lucien then kills your sister and tries to kill Sparrow, but he is saved by Theresa who nurses him back to health and then the game really picks up when Sparrow is a young adult and he sets off to get your revenge. The story is like an fantasy story, you go on long journeys, meet in people and battle enemies. I can't say it is a great story, espically since your character dosen't even have a damn voice, but for what it is it will the job done with its cool moments, set pieces, and a great setting.
Graphics: The graphics are semi-realistic with more of a stylish cartoon look. I can't say I am a fan of the design of the graphics being pretty cartoony looking but I will say that Albion is a very colorful and all around beautiful place to have a game take place. Now the environments are only the icing on the games graphics for example the effects like the fire and lightning look really nice and the animations are swift and smooth. The voice work for the most part isn't bad but it is not the best you will hear in a video game. the only real bad part is that there are bugs present like clipping and screen tearing but all in all while I'm not a huge fan of the design but they are pretty good for the most part.
Gameplay: Now the gameplay is where this game truly shines and there is a lot in this game. First off this is a sandbox game so you will be doing a good amount of exploring and traveling to different towns and locations, this works fine but you can't fast travel which sucks. Now the combat is pretty fun for the most part you have a ranged weapon such as a crossbow or a flintlock pistol, a melee weapon like a sword or an axe and finally you have a lot of magic spells. the combat can be really fun at times when switching from all these different types of combat and the ability to upgrade these abilities only adds to the fun. Out side the story mission there are a lot of side missions to do and while some are really fun others.......... not so much. what else is cool is that the choices you make in the game will effect the out look of your character both physically and what people think of you. For example if you are evil your character will have pale skin and have horns coming out of his or her head (you can be either male or female), but if you are good you will have tan skin and people will come up and ask for your autograph. There is a lot to do in this game like: getting married, starting a family, doing jobs, renting out houses that it is very hard to cover them all in a single review. The only real bad thing I can say is that the game is pretty easy because you never actually die, you just get knocked out for a few seconds and get back up again. But there is a lot to do in this game and if you do all of them you can have a twenty plus hour game on your hands.
The verdict/Final score
Story 7.5: Can't say it is an amazing story, but it does its job.
Graphics 8.5: While I'm not a fan of the style of the graphics, the world of Albion is a beautiful place to explore.
Gameplay 9: So much to do that I can hardly cover it in a single review.
Enjoyment 8.5: I had a pretty good time playing this game and it was fun to play such a different RPG.
Final score: 8.3 (about an 8.5)
