- Jun 9, 2009 6:11 am GMTyeah; ren can be a bit of a douche at times, but if you spent a lot of time and effort putting together a board FAQ, and everyone just ignored it and asked the same questions over and over anyways, wouldnt it annoy you? its like all your work was for nothing.
every board I've been to where someone put together a board FAQ and was still active, they have that general mentality. they took their free time to do something for the board that they didnt have to, and they see people more or less spitting on it and treading over it like it isnt even there.
and talking crap about someone whos suspended isnt very cool, to boot.

I wrote several very in-depth FAQs for a game and when people ask questions on that board instead of reading my FAQs, I reference my FAQs and answer them. I fully understand that not everyone wants to read long lists info to try to find their answers. That doesn't bother me in the slightest and I would never be mean to someone because of something like that. Over 30k people have read my FAQs. The few that don't want to read them, I'll gladly personally help. That's the kind of person I am.
More to the point, TC didn't flame me because I was asking a question. He flamed me because I was trying to help people by giving tips for things I had just figured out - they happened to already be known. That's the kind of person TC is.
I didn't know he was suspended, but I can fully understand how it could have happened; being the way he acted towards me. If you get pissed off because no one is paying attention to you... - Jun 9, 2009 8:00 am GMTOh come on, he isn't that bad. Renegade is overall a pretty nice guy if you ask me. Sure, he might make a sarcastic comment once in a while, but is it really that bad? I mean, I make sarcastic comments a lot of times as well yet you don't see people calling me a troll.
As I said, Renegade is a pretty decent guy so I can't honestly see why he is in purgatory. Oh well, I guess the only real hope he might have is to kiss some Mod ass if he wants to return.

http://www.fanfiction.net/~mastersolitarius - Jun 9, 2009 12:21 pm GMTyou cant "appeal" suspension-type moderations; so he has no real way to kiss some mod arse even assuming he wanted to, and I dont think ren would stoop to that just to get back on the boards.
@viger: everyones entitled to their own opinions. you're certainly entitled to yours, I hope you wont take offense if I say ren was entitled to his too.
I dont know all the specifics, and dont presume to speak for ren, but when you hang around a board a lot, seeing the same things over and over can sometimes get tiresome. I occasionally have cranky days where I make snappy comments at people asking stupid questions instead of being patient with them. nobody's perfect, eh?

No, I know, but I read about this guy who was put on purgatory as well because of trolling and flaming and he sent an email to the moderator who put him on purgatory explaining why he wasn't trolling and that it wouldn't happen again. He got his account back pretty fast.
Anyways, yeah, I think Ren wouldn't do that. Neither would I to be honest =/ What about you Haunt?

You are your own devil and god! Take great pride in who and what you are!
http://www.fanfiction.net/~mastersolitarius - Jun 9, 2009 3:46 pm GMTI've only had a moderator give their name in a response to an appeal once; and it was a lead mod who made a very polite riposte as to why my post was a moddable offense. if someone is polite and breaks it down intelligently, I dont have a problem accepting it. I was almost tempted to "appeal" just to tell the next administrative person that that particular lead mod was doing a great job of what they're supposed to do.
most of the time they leave no identifying mark, and say a bunch of nasty stuff like "if you try and appeal this further, we'll just slap you with harder penalties."
theres definitely a few great mods around; but theres also a lot of very bad and very petty ones; that are probably high school students or something that take appeals to their moderations as personal affronts, even when you're nothing but polite in the response.

In all my years on GameFAQs I have seen only one moderator who apologized for a misunderstanding and overturned the moderation. Seriously, I respect that. People who can admit their mistakes are at least mature.
Anyways, I fear we're a bit off-topic here, Renegade would roll in his coma. Ren, come back fast, because I don't think Haunt can go on much longer with you. The poor bastard's reaching his limit.

I'm a polite person who cares about the way he treats people. If people were to ask questions I'd addressed, It may annoy me, but I would simply either answer or reference the location of the answer or ignore the question. As far as him being suspended, I didn't know he was. It really makes no difference to me because all I did was point out his rudeness and the irony of someone with that demeanor making a FAQ. Truth is truth. Him being suspended is irrelevant. - Jun 18, 2009 10:23 am GMTNice.

hum.
I often find it ironic that how we view ourselves very seldom matches up with how we portray ourselves to the world.
did it ever occur to you that perhaps ren also views himself as a polite person?
and if he doesnt...well, is being honest with oneself a greater crime than telling oneself the little white lies that make use feel all warm and squishy inside?
talking about a person whos suspended is at its mildest just like talking about someone behind their back. at its worst, its like talking crap about someone as if they werent even their, when they're in the room but bound and gagged.

are you sure it isnt *que dramatic score* YOU that cannot, in fact go on without ren?
also, I was an active part of the mechanics community before ren came around, so if anyones anyones prime example, it'd be.... the wiki. ;D
fun fact though: your jabbering made me check out of curiousity and hes actually off purgatory now. hes probably just moved on, which is understandable.

ololololol1
Ren lives again apparently, or at least until his next inevitable suspension period, which will most likely be due to a feud on the Platinum Boards non-the-less.
Anyway, long story short, I got hit with a 30 day Suspension for a rather.. passionate argument on the aforementioned board, *wink wink*, although it really couldn't have happened at a better time to be honest, seeing as I just finished first semester Uni finals and now with a new missus to keep me busy, (Read: "Busy" is synonymous with 'keeping me away from enjoying some quality Fallout time and being coerced into having to watch the crappiest movies ever made' >_>"
it was less painful than it could have been.^
First, a humble thanks to HB for the Ren can be a douche at times comment, </Facerock>
That hurts man, but I forgive ya.. kind of... >_<
Seeing we has history n all. Lawl!
Auron - Cheers mate, the moral posting support always brings warmth to my soul, etc etc. =D
Trashface - Wow. You make a "frequently asked questions" post and then whine about how people asking some of the most "frequently asked questions" (i.e. "where do you recieve power armor training"
, annoy you so badly. I guess some people need to be condescending to boost their self worth. My perception rating is pretty high.
Apparently you're new here, so first of all - Welcome to the Fallout 3 Boards.
I and several others have practically been on this board since the game's release, around the same time you couldn't come to this forum without having the first page filled up with 3-5 topics relating to zomg where find powa arma traynin?, and quite frankly, that was annoying and I reserve the right to feel that way about it. Furthermore, the FAQ wasn't condescendingly written, it can be considered more or less to be an addition of very light-hearted humor, and humour which would only appeal to those who were witness to the previous flood of Power Armor topics, I suggest you take a second to realise that circumstances were different back then, so it's about time you got off your high horse and dropped playing the white-knight of the F3 boards. No one's impressed, and apart from Viger"I'mSoHelpful!"ornica, no one gives a damn.
</Epic Sarcasm>
More to the point, TC didn't flame me because I was asking a question. He flamed me because I was trying to help people by giving tips for things I had just figured out - they happened to already be known. That's the kind of person TC is.

If you believe that is an example of trying to help people, I do strongly suggest you try harder in future.
Exiting the Start Menu, indeed.. A very perilous task which only the brightest of Fallout 3 players can accomplish, perhaps you should write an FAQ for it Vige, you know.. While the momentum's good n' all, right?
</Epic'er Sarcasm>
Also, please refrain from further de-railing this topic with BAW''ing, do it elsewhere if you must, or not at all, which would be preferable.
fun fact though: your jabbering made me check out of curiousity and hes actually off purgatory now. hes probably just moved on, which is understandable.
Come now HB... Ren "moving on" from Fallout 3? I'll admit, I laughed. = )

Music is my Religion... - Jimi Hendrix - Jun 21, 2009 12:08 am GMTOh and HB, I saw your revised argument on the Perforator.. Well to be honest, there isn't going to be much of a round 2, considering that drawing enemies to Cars for some boom-time isn't always a viable option, let alone an effective one, particularly on VH.
Especially seeing such an explosion would only most likely kill the strongest variety of Raider outright, I've seen a Yao-Guai survive a Car Explosion on VH, which says quite a lot about it's offensive power, and also considering that I could have just removed the aforementioned's head with a Sneak-Attack Gauss Rifle slug instead of messing around with fancy tactics... There's still no major incentive to use the Perforator outside of low-mid level difficulty games or religiously role-playing a stealth character with a passion for being vane. (Fancy Stealth-Rifle? Least it looks decent.)
It's damage output pales to a standard Chinese AR, its poor rate of fire doesn't assist this at all, it has a negligible Critical Hit multiplier and flat-damage addition to boot and there are already superior stealth-viable weapons available for use elsewhere.
It simply isn't a good weapon IMO.

actually- I'm not sure if perhaps it was the vehicle type, or if(as I stressed in the topic) it was because the bear was a distance from the car, but they cut off a good 50-ish percent of an albino scorpions health(if its right next to it, which isnt a problem with the perf), and those things have a tone of health.
I think its *technically* less damage than the fatman, *but* difficulty only impacts your own damage- external sources are not considered damage from your character, so its actually most efficient on very hard.
and albino radscorpions dont have a head to headshot with your favorite energy weapon.
:p

I know, hey? ^_^
Right in time for the DLC.

Indeed, this could be why, I may have misjudged the proximity of the gaui from the explosion, although if this strategy really does shave off 50% from an Albino Scorp when the explosion is point-blank then I won't deny it's usefulness, but once again most will argue the availability of using such a tactic, which is to say - quite limited in most cases.
I think its *technically* less damage than the fatman, *but* difficulty only impacts your own damage- external sources are not considered damage from your character, so its actually most efficient on very hard.

:p
I see, I suspected that the difficulty didn't scale external damage, but this also brings up another valid argument, if everything else bar the new enemies can be taken care of using conventional strategy (Sneak Attack Gauss, etc), then it limits the usefulness of the tactic even further, when it can be used to shave off 50% from a Reaver or one of those Albino buggers, that's great, but in most cases it won't be a viable strategy. =P
If only more people were driving around in the rural areas when that bomb went off.. If only.^
The Perforator is still limited in its viability to use on the higher difficulties, even with the addition of this little gimmick of a tactic, doesn't really push it any further up the weapon chain.^

PL looks like its going to be the ultimate casual gamers dlc; I dont think any of the new gear will have real mechanical value to it, just a bunch of goofy gimmicks, toys and props.
