Xbox 360 Versus PlayStation 3 Graphics Comparison

Call of Duty 3 has made its way onto just about every major console, but it definitely looks best on the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 comes in a close second, but the 360 is the clear winner. The textures have less detail on the PS3, and the game looks a little washed out. Between the overly bright visuals and muddy textures, the PlayStation 3 can't match the 360 version's gritty look.

chronolzx, Wrong gamespot has stated that the games are pretty even now both in their reviews and comparisons. And they even screwed up on their latest comparison and didn't enable the RGB to full on the PS3's options, and it makes a world of difference in games like Assassins Creed here is an example of a True Comparison. It shows that the gamespot comparison pics are wrong and the games actually look exactly the same on both consoles.

But even still if a game IS worse on the PS3, is that really the PS3's (or Sony's) fault? The answer is NO! It truely is the Developers of the crappy game being lazy (the orange box being the prime example). Do you see any problems with Insomniac or Naughty Dog's games or MGS4 or any other exclusives? No, these games come out with beautiful graphics and run great and you don't hear any crying from any of them. So if a game does come out bad it's because of the developers fault NOT the PS3's. And as for multiplatform titles just being even that is even up to the Developers and isn't the PS3's fault.

TrevorBG, nothing you said was right at all. First of all the 360 has 3 CORES as it's CPU. The PS3 has 1 PPE & 7 SPEs. The 1 PPE is the same as one of the cores of the 360's CPU, but the 7 SPE's are actually even more powerful than the PPE or even the cores of the 360's CPU. There is a reason why developers (such as John Carmack) say that the PS3's CPU is more powerful than the 360's...stop trying to say otherwise. Oh, and FYI the GPU's are roughly almost equal in power with the PS3's Cell able to render graphics like a GPU itself making up any difference.

Also about the RAM it is actually true that the PS3's RAM is faster (or half is, the CPU's) as it has shown even on wikipedia for years now. And developers can pool the two RAMs of the PS3 into one and therefore use more than 256 though it is more difficult to do and use than the 360's RAM. So basically both systems have the same amount of RAM, the PS3 has faster RAM (half of it anyway) but it is harder to distribute it, the 360 has slower RAM but is much easier to distribute it.

The 360 DOES NOT out spec the PS3 "in almost every way". For the most part they are even in all other areas. Please stop trying to argue tech. At least go and look up info on wikipedia, if not the Beyond3d.com forums.

Its not just what a product does in theory but what it does in practicality that defines it.

PS3, in terms of hardware, no doubt has an edge over every other console in the market. But as gamespot.com has shown as of May 2008 that PS3 (even today) is no clear winner in delivering getter graphics and still lags behind X360 on a few good titles.

So what good is it? Its like having a V12 Ferrari with some sort of electronic speed control limiting its speed to 60mph (to that of an ordinary car).

@ravage9218....The PS3 has ONE CPU and 7 floating point processors....not the same as a CPU. The 360 has 3 CPUs. And as far as the RAM....the PS3 has 512 split...it can only use 256 of it at any given time. The 360 can use all 512 at once. The 360 out specs the PS3 in almost every way.

I've owned both and have NEVER had a problem with either so I have no idea what the whole debacle was about in the first place other then minor graphic differences.

I used to read these posts all the time and was all for the 360 because of the price point of the ps3, but after buying a 360 and having rrod and after i recieved my so called "replacement console" I got rrod within a week! Both are great consoles but i'm changing my tune now if I could go back and do it all again I would buy a ps3 simply because It dosen't break every week. Besides The ps3 is growing and I hope most of the 360 blockbusters continue to get ported to the ps3.

im not a fanboy (i hav both consoles) but 360 is obviously better than the ps3 in the graphics department. But im gonna say this, ps3 is supiorior hardware but 360 is supiorior software, just think of the console they could make if they worked together

yep i reckon im gonna buy a 360... the graphics look great and the lighting and colour is definitely better than the ps3 in my opinion plus im a huge halo fan!!!
Also the 360 is much more affordable here in Australia... by $300!!!

Oh ravage9218, that post of yours is soooo 2005.

Get with the times, most gamers here have moved past those kind of distorted beliefs now and just enjoy their consoles for the games they offer.

It's so obvious that the PS3 is better, just look at the hardware compared to the Xbox360. The ps3 has 8 processors while the 360 only has like 2 or 3 (CPU is very important for game systems.) The PS3's RAM is also twice as fast as the 360's allowing it to do more things thatn one at a time. The ps3 is also almost future proof as it has endless possibilities and with the cell processor it will eat anything you feed eat (hopefully only games and not slices of bologna.) Now is a great time to buy the ps3 as it is more affordable than ever and has a great selection of games, and online features. Dont forget about the sick lineup for the rest of 08 into 09 for ps3, it will blow you away. The PS3 is the award winning system and if you are ready for the future go with the ps3. AND DONT FORGET THE PS3 IS LESS PRONE TO TO SCREWED UP AS IT DOES NOT GET THE RED RING OF DEATH. ONY IS THE WAY TO GO

I agree with al3x-n90. sony won at e3 with a lot more exclusives. final fantasy doesnt really count because it comes out on both console, but microsoft do have gears of war 2 and fable 2. and the reason ps3 lost final fantasy is because there is not enough people who has ps3. and mgs4 is an example, even know mgs4 sold millions it was nothing compare to the sales of halo just because more people has xbox than ps3. the more install base the better the sale which is why assassin's creed, GTA4, and resident evil is coming out on 360. the developers just want money.

Well it depends the game as it seems
In some games the XBOX360 is surely the winner while in others its the PS3

Also it seems that XBOX360 run most games faster

Imo sony still had the best e3, vith GOWIII, MAG, infamous,(as new games announced) while m$ had only FFXIII and nintendo was horrible...

same as i dont care for final fantasy, halo, or pokemon? give me fifa, gran truismo, nbalive08, gtaseries and rockband and keep the rest.....although i must say that i had fun playing my 10 year old PS1 spyro, tarzan, and rayman games the other day

personally i dont care for mgs4 at all .....what i wanna know is when can i finally start renting bluray films off psonline?......we installed surround sound 5.1 system and leme tell u.....WOW now i can hear stuff explode all around me while my couch is vibrating....its ^%&^%$^%$&^ing amazing!!

really alex i bought a used ps3 from my friend for 180 and i went to best buy and i found a whole shelf of mgs4s well know im half way through the game and when my friends watch me play there like wow when is this movie over lol

the 2.0 software comes out around july 11, same as new iphone, ....to be honest im probably gonna keep my 1st gen, its cheaper, and has more free apps available, plus 3g isnt really available in great quantities where i live, and the plans more expensive so %^$^% that...the ony thing is that now i wont be able to send it to other countries as quick as before

I'm not a fan of any consoles,[I don't have any (yet)] but I got onto this page and I'd say that the PS3 has a better resolution and lightning (which was disturbing on Tony Hawk), but It seemed Xbox had better sprites (or whatever they are) on Tony Hawk...
