@FoxeoGames everyone can sacrifice different things. majority of games i've played in the past few years i've done it with no vsync because of either input lag or just overall performance hit. screen tearing has been easy to get used to. i'm not really adamant about high detail, but depending on the game i would rather play a game for example at 25 fps instead of 40 fps if it meant that shadows popping in or detail LOD would activate further away from my character, instead of waiting until I'm right next to something and the transition is so obvious. especially in a game like Dragon Age, i don't need super high FPS compared to other games. that's pushing it though I wouldn't play most games no matter what under 20fps. there's 2 PC's in the house other one is alot more high end, we switch back and forth playing the same games on 2 so i'm not more accepting to a lower quality experience because I don't know any other
Dragon Age: Origins won't leave you floored with its visuals, but it's worth pointing out the differences among the various versions. If we leave it to the consoles, the PlayStation 3 version looks cleaner because of its higher resolution textures and the increased depth the textures get from bump mapping. The Xbox 360 version looks a little worse, but it was definitely tweaked to run smoother. Unsurprisingly, the PC version runs and looks much better if you have a decent machine. Our Radeon HD 5750 churned out visuals at the highest quality settings with nary a hiccup. Aside from having much better textures, the PC version also benefits from more onscreen elements, such as bag detailing, boxes, and other minor room accoutrements.
We captured the following shots at 720p across both consoles and the PC to keep everything even. On the PC, we enabled all the highest quality settings, as well as 4x antialiasing and 8x anisotropic filtering. On the consoles, we captured the images directly over HDMI using the Matrox MXO2 Mini and used FRAPs to capture screenshots on the PC.
The first shot represents a shrunk-down version of the originals, and the second zoomed-in set is representative of an actual pixel-to-pixel comparison.
Still pictures do NOT adequately represent the differences between the systems, particularly with the PC. A still photo does not reflect framerate and any screen tearing issues, which are very, very important. I'd rather have a solid 30-60FPS with toned-down graphics than superior graphics with a sub-30FPS framerate. That's why I DESPISE the current trend of pushing the graphical barrier at the expense of framerate. How in the world did it become acceptable to let the FPS drop into the single digits at times? That should NEVER be ok, never!
I ended up buying it on PS3 over xbox 360 cause I forgot (oops) to preorder and they were sold out of it on 360. Looking at these comparisons I dont really see a difference in textures over PS3 and 360 like the opening of the article says. The only obvious difference seems to be gamma which can be tweaked in game and on your TV. Its odd because normally in console versions its the ps3 that has the washed out high gamma but this time its clearly higher on 360 at least with default settings. The only thing I really regret about buying it on PS3 is the controller. I greatly prefer the 360 controller. I guess I have 2 regrets actually. I spent about an hour and 20 min before i could even play on PS3 because first I had to update my firmware, then update the game, then install the game, then quit back out to the XMB and sign into PSN to agree to the new TOS then load the game again lol. I was just about to play today (35 min ago) when my PS3 prompted me for an update which is still installing. I dont know why it takes so long, im connected to the net via 50mbit fios with incredibly low latency. Hell id pay for PSN+ if it promised faster download times for firmware/patches You cant go wrong with any version. I dont think I would like the PC version though even with that cool HD texture pack they released. The PC version plays like an MMO and I find that play style incredibly boring so I'd rather button mash.
if you ask me there all the same the only thing that changed in depth is the armour and the surroundin the faces are basicly the same accept look more darker in pc. so the detail in armour and back ground is better in pc so what? it looks out place with the fact the faces look exactly the same in detail in all 3 minus the lighting diffreces in each dosnt change the fact that the is not change in its actaly detail.
The xbox version look a bit washed out IMO. PC looks the best but too bad my comp. can't handle this game.
actually with all the crashes on pc surely console has the whole gaming experience figured out!! sure pop up the settings on 1080p and the game looks amazing.. but when it comes to unhindered gameplay consoles are better.
I hope Bioware improve's the engine for 360 in DA2,if it has the same mudded textures as the first then it will be a big dissapointment in the graphics department.
@SniperFire17 FINALLY someone who hates console war JEEZ! Those freaking fanboys are so annoying with there flame wars. Still I own a 360, I like the ps3 a lot and PC is my favorite too bad that im too poor to upgrade mine to at least play starcraft 2 when it comes out :'(. The ps3 version and the 360 version look identical with minor changes like mini texture changes like plants that all no need to make a big fuss about it people.
WOW the pc version of this game is by FAR the better version graphically i cant believe how much better it is!
PC>PS3>360.. and all three show SLIGHT differences at best. The PC version is hardly any better than the PS3 version. The only thing that matters really, is the gameplay factor. The interfaces are different between the PC and consoles. That's it.
Its funny how you cant tell too much of a difference between the 360 and the ps3 but when you mouse over the PC version its like WOW OMG SOmEONE TURNed THE LIGHTS ON, lol PC FTW
@BellicReclaimer or unplug your Xbox 360 and destroy it in any way you prefer, then buy a good computer, alienware is recommend, then you won't need a console again you big FOOL!
@BellicReclaimer, If thats your basis for comparrison then you are an idiot. The only way to truly compare the capabilities of the two systems is to look at games that are specifically designed for their respective systems, not games that try to tweak their coding to work on all platforms. Shortcuts are generally taken to ensure a simultaneous release date, rather than optimizing the game for each. The 360 usually is closer to the PC because it uses the same coding technology as a PC whereas the PS3 has its own hardware and is hense more difficult to port, something that is not an issue when the game is designed for the PS3 from the ground up. Not to mention the added benefits of having a PS3: Blueray player, DVD player, Music Player, Interent surfing...Need I say more?
INTRODUCTION = i have got both 360 and ps3. GRAPHICS OBSERVATION = 360 have got better graphics in most games and ps3 have got better graphics in dragon age only. In other games ps3 had got blurry graphics. e.g. DIRT 2, COD6MW2 and many more. HOW TO IMPROVE PS3 GRAPHICS PROCEDURE = 1. unplug your ps3 from electric board(safety comes first). 2.break your ps3 with whatever you have. In my opinion the best is bat. 3.throw the pieces in trash bin. OBSERVATION = we cannot improve the ps3. PREFERENCE =instead of ps3 i prefer Nintendo WII. Finally for ps3 owner dont reply any negative for me because i have both 360 and ps3 and i can tell difference between both consoles better than you all.
@xtremeflem2day, you seriously don't have a clue what developers can drain out from the cell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az0CXkyoWjg perfect example i know ps3 onwer's will agree with me, im gettin fed up of the arguments to be honest, the ps3 is next gen get over it, xbox still use a disc tray for god sake, BLUE RAY matters ( fallout GOTY ) comes in two discs where on ps3 is on one blue ray i know im drifting off subject here but ps3 is far more better than xbox. the new games coming out this year are goin to be amazing with heavy rain as an early example for 2010. psn: JamieeJoness
T'is true that graphics don't make a game but with a game like this, it's mainly the story/plot that does, and DA-O got them nailed :) I'm playing this on the PC and finding it great. @yoshieggs3 - 1. If you hate these comparisons then why look at them, that bored? 2. PC version only "slightly" better? The sheilds actually look round, patterns are disernable on clothing and as it says in the description there are even things in the PC version that aren't in the console versions (like the box to the left of the dog in the 1st picture on the last page). Why comment?
@ Special_8 well yeah, everyone knows that.... but, 2 things. its fun to compare and also for the techy's its nice to see what these systems are capable of
Lol I just read the first page of comments below... and its safe to say i hate all of you =] All I see the difference is in close ups you can tell ps3 has some better textures... but other than that it just looks like the contrast and or brightness is different. Console wars have been going on for years...When I was younger I used to write on forums saying xbox is better than ps2 ... but that was when I was immature.. Like all of you edit.. I have a super PC
Its usually mostly about how the company designs the graphics for each console, is it not? I would have thought that the graphics would be better on 360 than on ps3, because its harder to program on ps3's cell. PC is always going to be the leader on graphics. The question is, is your hardware good enough to make it worth your while?
I have to say, there isn't nearly as much fanboyism here as thought there would be. Are we starting to get along? I doubt it.
This is one of the best games i have played in a long time, i never felt like this since i played Oblivion, wanting to play every second till the end. It has good graphics on consoles, but of course, the pc graphics are better, but the consoles graphics are fantastic too! and i really prefer the radial menu of the consoles, is intuitive and easy to use and lets you plan very good strategies, and in my opinion is a litte better than the radial menu of Mass effect. Summary, this is an amazing game that any respectable gamer should have, no matter which system he/she prefers.
@Romeric87 Ha'men. To me there just consoles and I could only afford one, I got the 360 because I could only afford the 360. When a game comes out for it which isn't as good for my console as it is for another I don't b/tch about it or scream over a forum that mine's better and the photo's are doctored and such in a rage of denial. I just accept the fact and move on, there is nothing I can do about it other then buy the better console of which I can't afford or just accept what I've got, no biggy. However some people make it feel like Gangs of New York were every one follows there leading console and will scream and attack any one who doesn't own theirs or agree with them. Honestly reading these comments or every other comment made on a comparison website makes me feel like I'm back at School "Mines better!"... "No! mines better!". Here we have a text book example below my comment "360 fanboys are the worst"... how is it that a console can affect your rational and maturity, no 360 fanboys aren't the worst, all fanboys are bad end of.
360 fanboys are the worst....i have both 360 and ps3 and i have a decent pc that can run cysis pretty good but honestly i would rather play my consoles more than anything else (doesnt matter which one to me because they are both awsome). its common sence here that the pc wins when it comes to graphics, but that doesnt matter its all about who has the best games and the pc has been lacking with coming out with awsome exclusives that have amazing graphics and honestly the last one that i can remember would be crysis.
Can't wait for christmas to be over so I can replace my broken radeon 3750. Upgrade every 6 months, who does that? My pc is getting to be 3-4 years old and all I have to do is upgrade my graphics card every couple years and I can play most games at max settings at 1080p, except crysis. The truth is if you have a pci express slot and enough memory most people could turn their pc into a decent gaming machine for less than $100, assuming you are on a desktop.
@thesovvolf Well said! I really am fed up with this fanboy rubbish. All platforms have their weaknesses and everyone knows it. I just wish that when you point out those weaknesses, all these idiots didn't cry bias, or try to say you've been paid off by Microsoft, Sony or whatever. People defend these corporations to the hilt, but they forget that all they want is our money, and they will do as much as they can to get hold of every last penny. We should leave all this petty point scoring to the corporations and enjoy our games. But for fanboys, its not about games at all.
Hmm, this is one tough choice. I can choose between Xbox or Ps3, since my PC won't get close to running it. Not sure which to go for, because although the graphics may look better on PS3, most websites including Gamespot say that the framerates are better on the 360. In my opinion framerate is more important than textures, etc. So is it worth sacrificing visuals for framerate and getting the 360 version? I almost always buy 3rd party games for my Xbox because I have a few gripes with the PS3 in general (long story). But I'm not sure if this should be the exception to that rule..? Does anyone know how bad the framerate gets on the PS3? Or is it only a minor hitch?
houdeany@ Techinally that makes you a fanboy too tard... besides im sick of the ps3 fansboys infact I own a ps3 myself and im not hypeing about it and I also own a xbox360 and in the end I love the computer the most just becaue it has far more things you can do with it...
i agree with shay00cooper, pc's always come out better when compared like for like with consoles, obviously much more expensive to run at the same rate, but if u can afford it its worth it...also mouse and keyboard always tops and joypad, atleast for rpg's (ex wow player)...but for me i cant afford a pc that can run at top spec so ps3 will do fine, also i feel its much about what screen ur watching it on too.
Sorry guys but gotta point this out depending on the progammers and game engine used the game will look better on either PS3 or Xbox360 get used to one performing better than the other. I would also like to point out that PC will always decimate a console yes its more expensive in the long run but personally if you got the money then go for, but those idiots who think a console could out perform a PC are morons, games are designed on PC's for christ sake...do the math
@:blazey09 That's awfully paranoid of you, no gamespot haven't edited the pics, they'd be no gain in doing so and the 360 version having the weaker as been reported over numerous sites. You wont notice the the difference while playing because the difference isn't all that significant, you'd only really notice the difference if you put the PS3 and Xbox versions next to each other. See the reason you'll notice that the 360 pic is lighter is because you see the darker PS3 pic then go onto the xbox pic and you notice.. when playing at home well your not seeing the difference so it's like normal... if that makes sense to you... I could explain this better with the right terminology but well it's 3 in the morning here and I'm tired.
Wow, when reading these comments I feel ashamed to be part of the gaming community... no wonder the media as a low opinion of us, look how immature we are... every caparison turns into a fan boy war... look here's three images that show the P.C version as superior graphics... PS3 owners deal with it. Here's three images showing the PS3 as superior graphics compared to the 360 so Xbox owners just deal with it. I own a 360 and I don't own a high spec computer so I have the 360 version, I'm not crying over the graphics or trying to argue about it over a internet forum, arguing and crying over this isn't going to fix it no matter how loud you shout or how many tear shoot out. Throwing a fanboy battle isn't going to change the graphics either. Just accept the facts , move on and grow up. I honestly can see how you can argue over this... you have evidence right in front of you... not only that it's been mentioned in every video or review of this that PC>PS3>360 as far as graphics are concerned.
Game runs better on Ps3 than 360, but best on PC. Who cares, get it for what u can. As far as Gpu goes with the consoles, Fallout is better on 360, this is better on ps3 w/e. My Pc runs on a 32" monitor anyway so, It's evident that is what I'd get it for.
@knoetgen LoL. i guess you can see which console i prefer... but i didnt intend to make it evident. to be honest i just listed the top 360 games that came to mind and that i wanted to play(with the exception of Halo. dont like that game... not much of a FPS, but 360 fans praised the game so much that it kind of go hand and hand with the system. LoL), i was not trying to make an unfair judgement. trust me i give credit where and when credit is due.
I can't quite run this on the highest settings on my laptop, but the ability to change the camera and the cleaner interface swayed me in the PC version's direction.
Stupid fanboys.. I'm getting this for my ps3, cos my pc is rubbish, and i don't own an xbox. Simple reasoning.
@phantom1593 " ofc pc is way better than ps3 and xb(i.t.c.h)ox..." >:O That's not very nice! Just because the ps3 has better graphics, and a more powerful CPU, and a better... Don't hate on the 14 year olds! :P (Viva la PC!)
i am a proud owner of an awesome PC and an awesome PS3. and all i hear here is "f*** u console owners, pc rocks the s*** out of ya'". that's not nice dude... yes, i agree, the pc rocks the s*** out of any console, but dont say bad things about console owners. ofc pc is way better than ps3 and xb(i.t.c.h)ox, but consoles have their advantages too. i bought mine so i can play on a big tv those kind of games that dont exist on the pc. that doesnt mean u must offend me and my fellow console owners... PC rocks no matter what anyway xD
