Win a copy of DmC for the PS3 or X360 in this video blog contest.
With more and more developers warmly embracing the concept of the reboot, it is clear that this trend will continue. We want to hear just how the changes made to the Devil May Cry universe make you feel.
Congrats to the winners who participated in this contest! Ahmad A. and -Saigo-!
Many have called out the concept of a reboot claiming that they changed Dante too much, arguing that they need the old Dante back. And while it has been argued that DmC takes place in an alternate universe, the debate still trends. We want to hear your reasons for why the reboot was a good idea. The goal of your video is to discuss the effects of reboots of games like DmC.
To participate, create a video that contains that following:
- Share a video of your insights in regard to reboots.
- Must discuss a rebooted game at some point during the video blog.
- Video responses must be at least 30 seconds.
- Submit your video as a video response in the comments section of this feature.
Prizing:
We will be selecting four total winners to receive a copy of DmC. Two winners will receive PS3 copies, and two winners will receive X360 copies.
The rules:
- You must be a GameSpot registrant.
- US ONLY for this contest.
- Deadline to submit your entry is March 15 at 10:00 a.m. PT.
- Creativity strongly encouraged. Judges will select the most creative entries, and then three winners will be randomly drawn, and an announcement will be made the following week.
Here are some tips on how to share your video and what you can talk about if you need some help getting inspired.

@Gamelander Neat stuff! Don't forget if you add #videodrome to any comment with the ur to a video you've created, be it associated to a response to a review we've made, or news, etc, it'll attract staff attention as mentioned here: http://www.gamespot.com/6405084
@JodyRI just deleted the old comment, and re-posted it with the #videodrome added in there.
Thanks for letting me know.
Hello Tom McShea and GameSpot staff,
I'm doing some final editing on my new video, which I will be uploading by tomorrow; of course, I'll be putting a link here as well. I'm just posting this to make sure that there's still someone in GameSpot who might see this, and not cancel or forget about the contest (looking at Tom's picture, hoping those games weren't given away yet).
I know that the contest ends on the 15th, but because there were no submissions (have to admit, I'm a little surprised and kinda glad), I figured I would post this.
Anyway, hope all is well,
Cheers.
what the hell , i finished this game in 2 days , the storyline was short -__- even though i enjoyed playing it lol i am expecting for another DMC with long storyline
dmc rocks guys great storyline dante vergil and kat rocks capcom should be looking forward to dmc 2
A Mario reboot..by Rockstar games... Super Slayer Mario Brothers! or..(of course..robot chicken inspired) Grand Theft Mario! (please note, I am by no means a Fanboy..I would just like to see some Mario Violence..lol) Or ... Mario Mario & Luigi Mario in : Scarface - The Kingdom Is Yours. None of this nonsense will fly of course..Nintendo wouldn't have it..but they may soon..they'llah needa tha monee see!?
My opinion reboots are fine. A game that has been going on for a long time can not remain the same forever. If it does then it will get repetitive for both the player and the developer so they need to change the game in order to keep ppls interest in the game and try new things in it.
DmC is amazing- I've been a Devil May Cry fan since the original, and can safely say that the reboot was a good call- the story got pretty convoluted by the last game and DmC retells the lore in a unique way. It stays true to the original spirit, but streamlines it into something easier to wrap your head around, while being more imaginative at the same time. The gameplay is also superb- made me wish MGR:R had a similar weapon-swapping system. I ended up using the HF blade for the whole game. In DmC, I would frequently use ALL of the available weapons in a single combo
New Assassin's creed is going to release! Read the full news here: http://www.mytechchronicle.com/2013/02/assassins-creed-iv-black-flag-has-been.html
Honestly they are hit or miss like some movie remakes but I like the new DmC. I hope Capcom reboots Resident Evil and Omimusha. I miss that franchise
DMC reboot quite good GAME, but it not Devil May Cry original . I will never play DMC reboot. Devil May Cry it is the atmosphere which any other game couldn't give, it was something exclusive. I will play Devil May Cry 1,2,3,4. But DMC reboot it simply game, with dirty emo in a leading role, this game has no power of sparda!!>:-/
Playing through DMC right now. As a long-time Devil May Cry fan, it's great. This is how video games are supposed to be made.
Reboots are fine, but it has to come down too if it was the right time to do so. As a fan of the Devil May Cry series? I was waiting for a reboot, because I wanted character development and I got it. I finally after 12 years I saw Dante for the first time as a character which was open about himself, about his past and what he's thinking and feeling. Which to me? Was something I was dying to see. I really do hope that Capcom let Ninja Theory keep going with DmC, of course it's a big learning curve for them but from what they did with it? It's mighty fine reboot.
It depends on the game and whether it has at least a similar feel. In the case of the Twisted Metal that came out last year, I didn't like it much, mainly when the focus of the game seemed to be on the live-action cinematics more than the actual gameplay, whereas TM 2, Head-On and Black I really enjoyed. The XBLA Vigilante 8 Arcade was more "Twisted Metal" than it ended up.
@Simon Corbett Bsc- How do you know the tomb raider reboot sucks?! the game ain't even out yet (though some place do get it days early at times). Can't say a game sucks without having played it yet. the Devil may cry reboot wasn't too bad. though i miss the White haired bad ass from Devil may cry 1 & 3. if anything the only game that needs a major reboot in the Resident Evil series. it went from being survival horror to an action game with horror layered on top. Hell the Dead space franchise if better then Resident Evil (just my opinion) But i do agree with you simon in regard to Duke nukem and Aliens Colonial marines. both games didn't turn out as well as everyone expected.
They killed the best game in the world, Devil May Cry was the best!! This DMC bullshit.
I think they ask us to do this cause they can. It encourages them to just cash in while they turn our beloved game console heroes into emo conformed pieces of junk characters that ruins the franchises
So, a contest for people who may likely hate reboots, with the prize being a rebooted franchise? XD
Reboots can be good or bad, it really depends, DMC didn't really need a reboot, but I can't say DmC was a terrible game, I really enjoyed it and still do occassionally. Ninja Theory did their own thing with it, which is really okay in my books.
NO for reboots! NO for "HD versions"! I wan't new IP's... Can't wait to "The Last of Us".
Yes: Reboots that sucked: Devil May Cry/Tomb raider/Alien (colonial marines),crash bandicoot,CoD4,ResidentEvil4+,Deadspace3,DukeNukemForever,Quake4 ps I'm sure there's many more but I get sick of the horrible reboots, Ps Re4 was a reboot even if the story claimed to be similar, well quake4 was too badly textured, CoD4 defined the whole camping nonsense...............
The Gamespot post is really ironic: "Do you have strong feelings about game reboots? Well if you do, you should enter our Game Reboot video contest for a chance to win a copy of DmC for PS3 or X360." So if i hate game reboots, i should enter a contest to win DMC (which is game reboot)?? Lol..
The ONLY thing old DmC whiners dislike, is is the fact new character is not shallow-like 90ees action character. New DmC is mile, miles, miles, miles better then old Japan-styled crap from before.
The game is good, but I felt that the reboot was not needed for such a new franchise. I mean.. what the first DMC was released on ps2 right?
While i definitely like the originals wayyy more, i definitely agree that the franchise needed a reboot. Things could have been made soo awesome after DMC3...but then DMC4 happened!!!....while the new DmC was a great game and the world and story definitely felt more fleshed out and had depth, the characters felt utterly shallow, especially when compared to DMC1 and 3.
I really dont care. I just hope CAPCOM somehow bring the story around to another DMC3 style Dante vs Vergil showdown, that game was absolutely insane, even after all these years, it still rocks!!
Also, here's hoping they ditch the metal theme, and make it more 'gothic-techno'(?) like in DMC3, something about that theme just sat perfectly well with the theme of the game, but then again it could be a personal thing!!
Cheers!!!
the only reason dmc sucked was because it was too easy, all i had to do to defeat most enemies and get SSS was a demonic dodge. also the reason older dmcs were cool, is because dante almost never seemed to be in danger, it was like he was always cool and in control
If I don't have a copy of DMC, how am I supposed to talk about it and if I had DMC, why would I bother entering?
@Threesixtyci You're talking about the concept of game reboots, not just DmC. If you need some help with topics there is a link to some tips on suggested topics.
